*****BAKER SHOOTOUT*****

The weather man is calling for snow in the hills all week and then a great sunny weekend. Mark I think your correct but how do you propose that happens

Has the hill used for racing ever slid? I know the answer....

Brew.............I know the answer to that question also. I worked with that guy the year he died on that hill..............I was going to be there but decided not to go that day.:rip:

P.P.

As long as people use common sense it will be fine.....watch where you park to spectate, if things are sliding then move to a safer hill. I hate to sound paranoid, but that hill does have a history and this is a bad year for slides with the burried ice layers. Hopefully all goes fine, but it's something to be aware of for sure.

I just don't see the hill getting blasted.... :boom:

I do agree that our sport doesn't need a black eye, but feel that we as individuals can take steps to prevent another. :hand:

This is held as a "race" type of venue, so there will be MULTIPLE people racing on MULTIPLE hills through out the day. Probably NO way to stop that with out the individual racers stepping up and saying "Not comfy with this, not doing this". :bolt:

What I would like to see is one of a few things happening:

1, the club putting up a HUGE sign somewhere ALL will see - maybe right at the bridge?? - stating AVY DANGER TODAY is *insert rating* please use proper caution. Or some sort of wording, not too long, just enough so that peeps get the point.

I hate to put this ON the club and adding ONE more thing for them to do... but they are holding the event and if something happens fingers will get pointed at them. :(

2, people taking responsibility for their own safety and not climbing on such hills that may slide. Not climbing with more than one person on a hill. Not parking at the bottom of slide zones. ETC ETC

3, people taking steps to help others learn avy safety by approaching them when they see them parked in bad spots, climbing a bad hill, making other unsafe decisions. :face-icon-small-sho

???:grouphug:

Great points and ideas B and WB is right on. I kind of see it a little different as far as club responsibility, the club is having a BBQ on the mountain, not a race, yes people will do so but people need to be responsible for their OWN actions.... Here's a common sense fact for every one...There is avalanche danger every time you enter the mountains, determination how dangerous is left up to individual, whether it be making your own assessments on the hill or checking the NWAC web site. In past years courteous club members have walked the camping area and hill spreading the word of avalanche danger.
I think if to much liability is put on the clubs we will see less events like this

I agree! I hold no one else responsible for my adventures in the backcountry. (UNLESS SOMEONE CLIMBS ABOVE ME WHEN I'M STUCK!:nono:) But I worry that IF something goes south the club will be atleast partially blamed. Not saying it is RIGHT at all, infact thinks its crap... but, ya... this is the world we live in now....

Look at the BIS avy... they are ITCHING to make SOMEONE responsible for that deal, starting with the organizer and even questioned the Revelstoke Snowmobile club! :mmph:

So, by placing a sign up for all to see might just be a small CYA move.

is it friday yet!!

Everyone has good points on the avy danger this weekend. As long as everyone uses common sense and rides cautiosly WE should have a great weekend and all enjoy the NEW SNOW:face-icon-small-hap

Now question time...

1. Where is the camping going to be at. Is it looking like side of the road or like the lot at the Y.
2. Is the sign still at the green gate? Be nice for it to move down with all this new snow.

My dad had snow falling at his house this morning in Darrington.

I will be brining another fellow Soldier from Ft. Lewis and hope to have a BAD A$$ TIME........

People were riding out from the upper snow park last Satruday at the "Y", the snow was the farthest down I've seen all winter. I would imagine that people will be camping there. It will fill up fast from the sounds of it, should be nice weather............

Back to parking. I hope campers aren't going to be taking up parking up high for day users. Those are the ones who should be using some sort of shuttle system.

Deep Diver, going grass roots I think your 100% right, I like your attitude. I'm all about doing whats right and being a stand up guy. Some times you have got to take a step back and look at the big picture. Its tough to cover your butt in today's society and I have become a little numb because of it. I hate today's blame game, self entitlement and the fact that most people cant be responsible for their actions always looking for who's at fault when in most cases they should be looking in the mirror. This kind of stuff brings out the worst in me.

Now back to your regular scheduled programing.

Not worried about the parking, the NWGC have always done a fine job. I'm sure they have plan A thru Z figured out based around snow conditions.

Letsgosleddin, glad to hear your bring the troops, this should be a fun weekend.:usa:

I'm bringing my whole family including Mikes favorite dog! GOT ASTROTURF?

hmmm, maybe one of the local avalanche course instructors would like to take a tent up and place it near the BBQ tent. Would be a good place to get a whole heck of lot of potential client's eyes on them. Talk about easy marketing.:face-icon-small-con

As for parking... you guys have fun with that, I have to go to a freakin' wedding.:yell:

Nope..I have to agree with Brandy on this one. It isnt about what is or what isnt their responsibility. It is more about what is the most responsible thing to do. What is the right thing to do. What is something that can benifit others and can be used as an educational tool as well. It doesnt take squat to have a cheap *** vinyl banner made with what Brandy stated. Call it a BBQ if you want but that is the "draw" for a lot of the other activity wether you want to say it was part of their event or not. It really doesnt matter..it isnt about the nit picky legal details..its about the right thing to do. Snowmobile clubs very often have some very inexperianced people in them. You cant expect everybody to know every thing about mountain survival and safety. I agree they should but that isnt a real world senerio..so with that in mind put up a sign. Crapola...a bomb can on some plywood would even suffice..it isnt that tough.

Sort of like how a snowmobile club has their function and wants to tell people how to park or where to park or dont track up thier snow or whatever...so they can have more people utilizing their event. Different but the same.

As far as demolitions goes..thats not realistic on public land. Just the enviromental impact ramifications from the Greenies would be horific.
It takes way more than a permit to use demolitions(Ruffy)

That may have been Brandy's longest post this year also!

Hey people, Im certain if one of you made a sign of your choice, the groomer guy would haul it up to wherever you like to park it.
