With the first batch of 800r motors approaching the end of their warranties and the numerous issues that have been discussed I thought it would be interesting to see what kind of miles people have on sleds. I am interested to see who has a motor with 3-4-5+k miles and hasnt had any work done to it?

Some quotes from dealers:

Crank run out posted in the manual says 2.4 thou is upper end/max tolerance...........

1) Engines will have wear and those spec numbers that are generated are only a guideline, aka we wont fix it unless it blows up. Nothing like arrogant comments such as: why would you even check the run out?

2) BRP has told us that the new spec is now 7 thou but we dont have any proof of that and btw we wont look at it until it blows up.

3) We know there is problems with this motor but even when they blow up brp will "probably" cover parts and not labor. Also we wont look at it until it blows up.

4) BRP has offered incentives to dealers to take 800r motor sleds on trade and additional 1 year warranty so that dealer can move them..........interesting?

There where numerous negative comments from the dealers and I am also amazed and how quick they are to bad mouth their fellow dealerships. God help if you mention you read about it on the "internet" or spoke to another dealer as that seems to raise a red flag. But, lets try and keep the thread on track. I must admit there where 2 dealers that where quit helpful and willing to chat about possible problems.

Last rant......why is it with warranties running out majority of dealers have no idea how much extended warranty costs and for that matter dont even appear to want to sell it?

btw

07 rev- 1600kms running strong.

Even if your sled has died and been rebuilt feel free to drop the highlights.

My '07 went about 1200 miles and broke a skirt that took out the case and crank. New '08 engine under warranty. It ran absolutly flawless until the second it came apart.

first 600kklm's
second 90klms
third 2500klms
talked with a buddy today and were chatting about the 07 and he said his dealer flat out said he didnt want it on trade .

On our 07 XRS we have close to 2,000 miles and no motor issues, and on our 08 XP we have about 400 and no problems. We run Amsoil, if that helps.

4- 07 Xrs's.........one has about 1000 miles, one has 1340 miles, and two have 2100 each......

all on the first engines with no problems

EDIT: We all run ski-doo mineral oil....

07 had 1755 miles no problems with motor:)
08 200 miles blew motor-:o-about 1300 miles on new mill -no problems:D

07 800r w/872 miles. was a holdover and got it last fall. Primary clutch disinegrated at 120 miles- replaced- and no problems since then, in fact i used two belts all year and it really just kept running stronger.

800r miles

o7 800r 151 adr. 600some miles blew a whole in the pipe, blew up my reeds, and some clutching issues, speedometer only shows kilometers and im not canadian;)but still same engine and got my fingers crossed cause i run out of warranty in december!

Keeping them coming......so far only a couple peeps past 2k on first motors.

Ps here is another funny dealer quote.

"BRP estimates only 5% of the 800r motor had trouble of any kind.....but we feel that 10% is a closer estimate. So on that note only peeps that are unhappy tend to post and the other 90+% 800r owners love there sleds and have never had a bit of trouble.........."
