ASSAULT Track Gremlin?

Hyfax costs between $30 and $50 for a pair (aftermarket / stock)...

1200 miles on Hyfax on a shortrack with a very stiff suspension and decent power... Pretty good in my book.... especially with no scratchers.

Loose tracks also wear out hyfax more quickly as the track clips/track can tilt a bit a as the track forms ripples as it is driven down the rail.

The track has minimal slap, where we ride the engine needs to be rebuilt before changing hyfax but those are simple I can accept hyfax wear. Thinking about hyperfax for this one. Hay!!!!!! that dumb bell thing I could use my dogs head . I read the little manual twice and than bought the 2007-2010 IQ service manual

Hey Mtnhorse for the track to ratchet does it have to walk all of the drivers at once? This one does not walk all of the drivers at once. It only walks two at a time on both drivers at the same time just two.

I guess I'm trying to understand why the guy got negative rep?

Pfff...Whatever...

Interesting thread this has turned out to be.

I know this might be going back a little bit further than the progresion of this thread, but it's really important to set the track tension as the service manual states. If a person is still having problems then it will eliminate a couple of things and you have a good place to start.

The track tension is at 1/2 inch sag. I understand track tension, especially stiff lugs that the Assault has I have one machine that has 245 screws of various lengths screwed in the lugs and another that has 142 Roetin studs (missing 2) on a 141, 1 1/4 ripsaw (actually it's a 144 on 141 rails) and also a 136 Two have 10,000 miles and one at 5000 the Assault at 1200. This whole topic of track tension is like a diversation to the problem. We are still waiting for a response from Polaris. I'm thinking about posting a video of it doing it like sitting on a track stand and turning it by hand, driving it, and pulling it on the ground. I was told good luck before I started this thread it is a very tough one to swallow because you have to see it to believe it. Thxs Diamonddave and Scott I wish I would of talked to all of you guys before I took it in because theres more that enough brain power here to figure it out. Hey Scott ever been to Baker Mt?

Their going to replace the shaft and drivers and SEE if that fixes it, I'm speachless. The service dept. had a tough time swallowing that one. Maybe their sending different drivers?

I've never been to Baker Mt....that I know of.

I've been to Baker Creek in Sun Valley, Idaho. That's the only one that I know of. :)

No... but certainly no free-hang.

Call it an 8 lb wieght or a 12 lb weight... 3/8" - 1/2" space....

Get it in the ballpark at least.

The 10 lb dumbell is a cheap tool to have to get your adjustment correct.

Interesting that Yamaha states 22lbs and 1.18" - 1.38" of clearance on the nytro MTX.

22lb is roughly 10kg and 1.18"-1.38" is roughly 3cm-3.5cm. I would guess its just a metric to english spec difference, not necesarrily a tighter or looser tension. my .02

No, it isn't about the conversion, it just seems that Polaris uses less weight and less sag for measurements. It should be easy to see that the more weight you use, the more sag you will be able to measure.

i know. but that doesnt mean the tension on the track is different.
for example:
you have a ratchet strap between two beems. you have a 5yr old pull on it as hard as he can. it moves 2". then you have a body builder pull on it as hard as he can. it moves 12". at rest the strap still has the same tension. just a different spec for measurment.

If they are changing drivers, I would pony up for a set of Avids and be done with it! No ratcheting, get rid of the goofy center driver and run the track a bit looser to free things up. You will need to move back and trim the rail tips for clearance though....well worth it IMO.

absolutely correct, I guess I wasn't correct in my statements. For all I know, the two could have the same exact static tension (no weight) after setting up and measuring. Sorry for the confusion, I think we are arguing the same side. :face-icon-small-hap

Their replacing the drivers and drive shaft. I'm really curious as to why Polaris is sending the shop both. The shop sent them their own photos, and the comunication between the shop and Polaris ended at the photos. I guess Polaris must have seen the problem otherwise it might be in the shop for a while. I seen the new Avid drivers that MtnHorse has up and I'd be game to split the bill with the shop.

The driveshaft and drivers are in but their waiting on a track. The new track was good news to me.

:yell: Unbelieveable! They did what Polaris told them to do. They replaced the drive shaft, drivers, track, with the same parts and the same problem, Track's so :yell: tight that I can barely turn it over by hand, there went the RPMs,God forbid that they have a call back on the Assaults with a driver problem. Anybody know what driver pitch are coming on the 2011s ?

Avids....Camoplast Extreme.....done.
Wierd problem though, you would think more people would be noticing this?? Does this appear to be an isolated case??
