anyone trying to give up smoking ?

Yes you really do require the desire to quit. If its something someone else just harps on you about and that's why you're trying it probably won't work.
And yeah the Chantix does have some really scary side effects and even when taking the stuff I kept reading enough horror stories that almost made me stop. All of us who took the drug here never even finished out the script. Only the first month was needed, hell I even tossed away the last weeks worth cause I didn't need them. Always read up on anything you're going to take doctors are idiots too :D Oh and just start reading up on the side effects of smoking..... or go do some hillclimbs in your running shoes like you're a kid....... then you can compare which side effect scares ya more :D:D

I quit a couple of years ago. You really have to have the incentive and want to quit or it will probably be unsuccessful. I had quit a few times before, but always started back up. When I successfully quit I used the pill, Wellbutrin. It is the generic version of Zyban. It worked great, and gave me that extra help to kick the habit.

To be honest, I could light up a Marlboro today and there is no doubt in my mind that it would be so good. I would be lying if I said that I didn't miss smoking, but my family is way more important so I stay off the smokes.

OK made it through the day at work, Ridding in the work truck with four guys and three lighting up was tough.I had lots of gum and water, who ever told me to drink water was right it works! but," I pissed lots" Tomorrow is another day. Some one else try to quit with me on here and we can wine together.

So how is everyone making out? I am trying to get back on the quitting wagon...

This time it is going to be a permanent change.... otherwise I am going to sell the sled as punishment!

Chantix was the ticket for me. I had quit several times before and alway's started back up. Started Chantix and within two weeks lost all cravings! Havent smoked since!
Good luck!

yep chantix is the ticket, 1 YEAR 3 WEEKS NO CRAVINGS ya baby!!the money you save is noticeable and I started at a gym 2 weeks later i cant wait till this winter when everyone is trying to choke a smoke down at 10,000ft lol

Well I quit smoking about 5 years ago but have chewed for all but 3 years of the last 15.(Yeah redneck I know) I had quit chewing about 4 years ago and started again about 1 year ago. I'm in after my next can is gone. I guess it's time to go to Sam's and stock up on chewing gum.

wife and i quit in 1988 and never looked back---did go thru quite a few boxes of FIREBALLS:eek:---they last so long you forget about the cigs...hope you make it---you'll never regret it:beer;:beer;:beer;

My Dad has been clean for a year and a half now. The DR told him that if he smoked again he was gonna die! I guess that was enough to make him quit!

i went from 2-3 packs aday to -0- four years ago, my x-mas preasant to my wife and new born daughter. if you want to quit you will. i took a look at the patch, gum and all the other stuff, it would have been cheaper to keep smoking. so i just quit.

i do however like a good cigar every now and then.

my buddy just quit, holy **** did it seem like a battle.....much respect to you guys....

I dont know if this will help, but he had his girlfriend give him "something else to think about" every time he craved a cig....:D

I'd quit right now cold turkey.....:D..same boat here guys..have smoked for along time...and have quit several times..but always end up lighting up again..got chantix in the cabinet ready to go..just gotta get my mind wrapped around it now....

every time you have the urge.... choke down a glass or bottle of water. Gets your mind off it..... Gum is good.... get lots. Switch it out offten so it never goes flat tasting. Plus the constant gum chewing keeps you grazing.
I found day 3 was the hardest.....

2 pack a day habit for 14 years, I drank v8 juice every time I had the urge. Been smoke free for 6 years but I do chew a pack a day of gum. :o
