Anyone ridden an 09 XP vs. 09 M8 - no BS

09 XP Summit X

Any real comparo's in the deep and steep between these two sleds.
I heard the 09 m8's are dooing better this year...:D

I was in Cooke City this weekend with my 09 XP SUMMIT X 163. I set a highmark and an 09 M8 with a mesh hood and running race fuel put a mark 20 feet below mine. Both sleds cut their own path. Did not ask the guy what was done to his sled, but mine is bone stock. I cannot beleive how the stock XP climbs in fresh powder.

somthig to think about

When compairing an m8 to an xp in side hilling you will find a xp comes with a swaybar if you remove it you will find it is more manuverable in off trail conditions

Tested an '09 M8

Had the opportunity to ride a '09 M8 for a day. Something I didn't see on this thread was talk about the steering. Let me first say the M8 ripped and was easy to lay over. That being said though, I hated the steering. I never felt in full control as the geometry of it just didn't work for me. The dragon is somewhat similiar but not as noticable. I was looking to jump from the not so reliable Doo to something a little more dependable but the steering.......

What did you hate about the steering? You have to make sure the toe is set right and the stock skis leave alot to be desired on the trail. They like to dart a little. My toe from factory was set in and it needs to be at 0 or a little toed out and that helps some of the unpredictable feeling.

In all honesty, being a cat guy, the xp is a better trail machine than the m but I believe the m is a better boon-docking/powder sled as it lays over easier. Just my opinion, but if you really want to know which one is better for YOU, you are going to have to try each for yourself. there is no one on this forum who can tell you what will work best for you, all we can do is point out what we think are the highs and lows of each. I wouldn't make a decision until I tried both sleds for a day each. after coming from a rev, the m will feel weird for a bit, the xp will feel like home faster, so you should put some seat time on each. just my 2 cents.

I have rode both this year, the M rolls up a little easier but feels heavier on the ski's to me.I prefer the XP,better ride, much more responsive. Both are great sleds,I wouldn't give up my XP for a M but a Cat guy probably would't give up a M for a XP.

^^x2 I'm a cat guy and you can't go wrong no matter which way you go, we are in a good place where you can pick whichever 800 you want and you won't be disappointed. I think the M feels real light up front but then I'm coming off a 1000cc triple which was really heavy up front. Its all about personal preference.

It is hard to explain but I'll attempt. The handlebar angle is a lot different than the doo. I thought it might just be me but I let another doo rider try it and he had the same response as did some other doo riders. I'm just curious what I'm missing because I don't see any mention of it on here???? To turn the handle bars it is not as fluid as the doo. It's the angle of the steering. As I said before, I was pleased with the performance but was dog tired from fighting the steering.

BC ia Cat Territory

One of the reasons i'm sure is the same argument over and over.....any mountains i'm around here in BC anyway,i look around and all i see are doo's now,not poos or cats but doos.So if there's a kabillion more out there gettin thrashed on the mathmatical percentile isnt too far behind to see which ones in the shop,i'm not saying their without their issues,i'm just laying down another option to look at.

I am in BC and 2 out of every 3 sled decks here is loaded with Cats. I dont know what you are talking about. I see FAR more Cats than Doo's, and even less Polaris's, unless u count the bajillion VE's still running out here. SO i call major BS.

The last comment just made up my mind for me I have been dealing on 09 sleds with cat and doo I really thought I wanted to try an M1000 because I have always rode cats and liked them plus I weigh 260 lbs but Doo has a great program on the 09s right now and they are at an almost 3200$$ price gap. I realize im not comparing apples to apples but here in Canada Cat will gouge you as long as they can,(march 31 before a price change on 09's) and Doo as of right now and every new year begin releasing new programs on their current sleds. Any ways Im going with an xpee because of the dealer and the price I just hope this light sled will hold together with my weight on it. I have never been a fan of BRP and I cant quite believe I am making this purchase but I think the xp is a great mountain machine and when I get stuck and decide to roll it over to get out I dont have a 1000$$$ hood to worry about. I never liked the REV but I think with some saddle time I can grow to like the XP and if I dont like it I guess I can pick up an 09 M1000 in the fall for a better price. Am I retarded? Will the XP hold together with me on it?????? Lets hear your thoughts.

Well I dont know about you, but all the Xp's I have seen around me in Canada are deffinitely NOT $3200 cheaper than a comparable Cat. I mean, i give u the fact that Cat doesnt discount their product as early, BUT AS WE SPEAK Cat has 09 HCR's and M8's and M1000's on "Employee Pricing" advertised at a couple dealers here, and they are no more expensive than any Doo. Traditionally here, the Doo's, even though a Canadian company in Canada, still cost more. Doo has no loyalty to Canadian consumers, so why should I to them? Or has everyone forgotten they were the last company to adjust their prices when the canadian dollar was so strong for a while there??

I'm from the lower mainland. From here to Pemberton it is all Doo. Probably 90% - maybe more.

Shake&Bake im from the okanogan and very seldomly do i see more then the 1 cat that is in our group mainly doos out here

I would be willing to bet people pay more attention to the brand that they're riding. Let's say you are pulling your sled of brand x up to the parking lot and you see a sled of brand x in the back of a pickup on the side of the road and brand y in the back of another pickup on the other side of the road. Chances are you'll probably pay more attention to the sled that is the same brand as yours.

It's the same as when you buy a new vehicle, you never realize how many vehicles there are of that color until you buy yours.

rode both 09's

rode the 09 m8 and an 09 xp 800. The xp was a 164 and the m8 a 153. so a little different there.
But i felt that the cat was more agile, and even though the skidoo is light it felt heavy and wasn't as easy to pitch into a turn.
The track on the m8 flat hooks up, and the power is very strong top to bottom.
I felt like the doo would trench and found myself almost getting stuck:confused:
Overall i would have to say that the cat was a better ride. just my .02:beer;

A little off but I rode an 09 M 1000 all day and as far as boonin goes ... what a riot. I could hold it to the bar and huck it around the trees with out even rubbing the bark off and if you let off you could easily recover.

I agree 100% , this part of B.C. is all doo's it's very rare to see a cat here, to bad like to ride with some newer cats , see if they are any good in the deep.
