I've been looking for 2 used pickups for about 6 months now. And haven't been able to find a pickup(besides 2 that were priced about 9k over what they were worth after beating the price down). Maybe I'm just want hard to find pickups.

is anyone else finding this or am I alone?

My father was looking at one, a newer dodge diesel.

I was shocked what they were asking

With all the problems in new car sales, I fiqured used prices to follow.....

not the last time I fiqured wrong !

Used vehicle prices are up 25%, they say due to the lack of new production. Any decent used car is bringing full retail $$ at the auctions right now, and the pickups are higher than cars.

The news related to the automakers is all about fuel efficiency and hybrids.... doesn't really go hand in hand with what we want so the demand for what's out there on the truck market is going up. Not to mention all the problems related to the emissions crap on 07 and newer trucks.

There still seems to be a good selection of used to pick from on most of the lots here in SD though.

That is correct. Used vehicle piroces bottomed in November of 08. Prices have risen 28% since then.

What are you looking for? I've been looking around on the country and from what I can see you can base your price stereo typing on geographic location due to economics of the region/area.

For the pickups I've looked at all of the deals that appear to be good seem to be located around high density areas that had excessive housing starts 2 years (plus) ago. Rural ag based regions don't seem to be in the need and deals aren't even close. Also noticed this with pricing quotes from new dealers in our urban area versus driving out 150 miles to rural dealerships. The townies are desperate to do business and the small rural dealerships aren't even remotely competitive (and probably don't have to be).

Rob, thats one reason i have been looking a lot father out the past couple months. But you would think an 8.1L eclb in good shape would be around 21k or less out the door(found quite a few really nice ccsb for this price) . Even though i found 2 i liked. one was 37k(got em down to 31) for an 06 with 45k miles, the other was about 29k, just seemed a little high.

but as for the diesel 3500 single eclb I found the one i wanted for 24k but was about 3 hours too late getting there. lol and that was the last one i have found for a couple months now.

the good thing is i have time on my side, even though I'm sure it's pissin off the guys helping find the 2 pickups. but minor details.

My brother is actually looking for two new pickups one a stripped dodge 1500 long box single cab and a crew cab shortbox lariet F250 6.4L or possibly a F150 but he's picky on some of the options and color and so far not having a lot of luck without the dealership having to travel 2 states to get it. Which of course then they don't want to make a decent deal. In ND so our economy hasn't been hit near as hard. They have been telling him though with all the limited runs this year the selection isn't great. Seems like around here all the superdutys are F350s and a lot with V10s or even more with 5.4Ls.

Around here used prices are ridiculous on pickups we both were looking for simple run around field pickups and in the end finding used in good shape you paid so much. In my case getting a new stripped F150 XL 4.6L new was about the same as a 4yr old with more options and 100k plus miles.

If you have the time and energy craiglist has been very productive for me. You have to search all the different locations/regions individually which sucks but if you are tenacious you can see alot of possibilities. Spending time working on that is what lead to my previous comments. You can see variations from location to location based on current economic trends of the area. You can also have a higher percentage of "finds" looking in regions that are strong in your applications. It also gives you a pretty decent education resource so that you can judge if you are making a good buy or not. Here is the irony...I don't know what guys value their time at but my pickup is going to be worth about $100,000 when I finally pull the trigger!:D DUMB

Took me a good 5 1/2 months to find my 00' Ford F350, in decent shape, without a billion miles on the motor.

I wanted a Cummins Dodge, but people are asking STUPID prices for them.

Absolutely RETARDED to pay $20,000 for a four our five year old truck, with 100,000 miles + on it.

So, I went with a 7.3 Powerstroke, and got the "old faithful" instead.

So far, other than having to bleed the brakes, and make some adjustments she runs GREAT.

I've been trying to find a rust free 02/03 F350 CCLB with the 7.3 with under 100k miles. So far I've been unsuccessful.

Holy crap rob you looking for a freaking CXT or rock crawler or what?

That's almost half the combine I want to upgrade to next lol

No no you miss my point! I've spent about a million hours of time trying to save a few thousand bucks. If my time was worth a penny an hour I'd still be better off to go down and order up FULL retail! It's the irony of how we all are:D.

Hey we are looking for a combine too...BUT DIRT CHEAP...something to limp around the ranch and just get us by. A little bit of barley that isn't worth much of a commitment. My Uncle and Dad have three from a high grade seed operation that I was hoping to snake off and convert when they finally close it all down but they just won't QUIT! Finally making money after all of these years I guess! I've seen em from free you haul off to $100,000! Farm auctions are fun if it ain't someone who lost their livelihood.

Yep gang I have a very nice 2000 Ford F-350 crew cab SWB 4x4 dual rear wheel XLT 7.3L auto that has given me 160,000 miles of perfect service. I REALLY LOVE THIS PICKUP AND WISH IT HAD NO MILES SO THAT I COULD START ALL OVER FOR ANOTHER 9 YEARS. But that ain't life and I'm dumb about such things so I am starting the process over again. It's the towny in me that makes me always want shinny and new I guess. Silly as the Ford pickup is still perfect.

If you want a used truck, with good miles, in nice condition right now....you gotta pay the money. Not a lot out there, most of it's crap, and all of it's pricey.

This site may help a lot of you guys out for finding stuff of Craigslist http://www.searchtempest.com/ It used to be called Craigshelper but it looks like they renamed it.

Rob you can't figure your time in, it would make it to depressing. lol. I said want, not getting,:( unless something really changes I'll be using and happy about it the old girl i have now. just about ready to roll over 19,000 hours on her. even though the acres she covers is stupid, i make it work.

and only 160k miles??? ahh geez, i think you nailed it on the head with the city slicker side of you. LMAO.

I wonder how much this bullchit cash for clunkers program is going to artificially inflate the used car market?
