Anybody that drives and has passengers drinking better read...

this thread... lol

I guess I am one of the few who is from south dakota and can say in all honesty I have never consumed alcohol and then drove within a couple hours. I refuse to be responsible for someone else's(or my own) death because I decided I couldn't sleep somewhere besides my bed for a night, and yes I have slept in the back seat of my car numerous times when parties ended/got busted and I couldn't get a ride home.

Just made it home from dinner and six beers, successfully I might add. I didn't kill a single arsehole.

All of you jokers in here, clearly have never had to deal with the aftermath of a crash involving alcohol. Fatality or not, its never a pretty thing, and really isnt something to joke about. Vehicular manslaughter is a charge that carries a pretty hefty sentence. Just something to think about.

I don't know the circumstances, but unless you sat there for quite some time(like 2 hours) or are morbidly obese I'd imagine you were driving with an illegal amount of alcohol in your system. Sure, you were able to drive home fine, but imagine how many teenage kids down 10-15 beers and feel like they are okay to drive home. Sure it works out most of the time, but all it takes is that one night where they push the limit a little too far, and they just close their eyes for what seems like a second and suddenly they are halfway through the trunk of your family member's car. No one sets out to kill someone while intoxicated, but accidents happen why chance it?

One more thing. Can you honestly say you have never driven a vehicle after drinking?

I'm still waiting for an answer from Chuck Norris's side kick, Mr. Mouth. But all he can seem to do is bash states, women and snowmobiles and pretend he is tough. I will also ask the same question to all the holier than though people who are bashing those who have got you all fired up.

I have never drove drunk or buzzed. That's what my wife is for :).

I will have a beer or 2 max at dinner and I will drive home. I have a CDL so my limit is .04. So I'm not risking it.

Does that answer your question you restrained skidoo rider from Montana?

I'm almost positive you meant retarded instead of retrained, you might want to fix that.

Only problem I have with drinking while I drive is deciding what to do with the hand that is not holding the beer. Should I put down the cell phone or the joint?:face-icon-small-con

You're .04 limit with a CDL isn't your legal limit at all times, FYI. Most states is zero tolerance (.000) while driving CMV. Meaning, the state may revoke your CDL with with zero tolerance violation (.001 for example), with no legal impact. .04 while driving a CMV, is the legal limit. If you have a BAC of .041 while driving a CMV, you will get arrested for OWI.

Also, assaulting someone is most definitely a greater crime, than simple misdemeanor OWI. Choosing to personally injure someone is much worse than someone making a poor driving choice. Make a phone call, report someone, and don't ruin your own life because of someone else's poor judgement...

I know the laws. I was referring to driving a personal vehicle not a CMV. Instead of telling me what not to do in confronting a drunk driver. Why don't you wise azzes offer up some " what I would do's" If the driver continues on driving after you call the cops, and while your feeling good about the good citizen you are. 2 blocks away he head ons a Honda and kills the driver. Good work you fine citizen!!!

Being a EMT I would assume you have seen the affect of a drunk driver. That was driving on public roads among other drivers. Maybe someone called police. Maybe they didn't. Same end result though.

Professional FF/EMT bro, see it all the time. Sucks at times, A LOT, I know! Extricated my fair share of survivors, bodies, and body parts. If you can't handle what you see, you need some CISD meetings with your teammates, or rethink your willingness to offer your services. Especially If... It comes to a point of you feeling the need to cause willful injury to others, you seriously need to reconsider if your capable of providing the services you're trained to offer. Trust me, it NEVER gets better! Your time put in, is guaranteed to be progressive. Every single response you attend, is likely to be the worst one you'll witness. And you need to be able to overcome that...

Speeding penalties go from low fines for slightly over the limit to severe fines/license loss in extreme speed instances.
Why do we treat drinking differently?
The fines should start low at .1 and progress as bac increases, and also give the officer latitude to consider how/where the driver was driving.

FWIW, I have buried friends killed in alcohol related accidents.
It sucks, but death of all kinds is all around us. It's part of life & we are all gonna die one day.
