Any reviews on the new peak 2.5

Have ridden twice with a buddy that has the peak track on an XP. The track is too rigid and has started to crack near the outside lug. It also trenched in the deep stuff. Have no doubt that it would rip on semi set up snow, but it hasn't done so well in the deep stuff.

Does he have 200 miles on it? They are supposed to soften and work better in the deep. The fact that it is already cracking concerns me.

yeah, i would check into that cracking. get a hold of camoplast... I haven't seen any sign of that!!!

I rode in some SWEET pow when I got my 'real ride' in on mine and I didn't notice it trenching... BUT, i do have a timbersled skid under mine too.... so maybe my opinion is a bit biased... :face-icon-small-con

I have been running a 163 Peak on my Pro for about 150 miles so far and I still am on the fence. 1 1/2weeks ago, I was riding with a buddy that also has a '12 163 Pro. My Pro had the Peak, as well as a Power Addiction 13.1:1 head with stock clutching and gearing and my buddy's sled was completely stock. Climbing in about two feet of fresh powder, both sleds climbed about the same distance, but his climbed much faster (ground speed), and my sled was making a slightly deeper trench behind it. I've now geared mine down from the stock 20/42 to 20/46. My sled is definitely much more "responsive", but I'm still not sure on the Peak as the snow was really settled hero snow our last ride. If it doesn't exceed the stock track on the next deep powder ride I do, it's gone.

The stock track is likely better in deep, fresh powder, but man, does that Peak ever hook up hard in more settled snow. For all-around use though, I think the C.E. is a better choice.

Side by side test

So my brother and i have pro 155s his is d&r w peak 2.5 mine stock 5.1. We both have brads head. In hero snow he will pass me up. In fluff i can float on top and keep going longer than him. Plus ive got 40 pounds on him. Cant say im looking to buy a peak track :) thinking of the CE tho.
Of course being in ak most of the time the snow is pretty dry.

Have you tried changing sleds on the same run because 40 pounds is a big difference? You are saying you are 40 pounds lighter or you are 40 pounds heavier? Do you think all things being equal the peak track would be equal the 5.1 in the fluff or not as good as the 5.1 in the fluff?

Fluff

Sorry ill clarify im 220 he is 180 all things equal i think the peak<5.1 in cold dry fluff. You know the stuff you want to ride in. :) we swapped back and forth a bit. His feels good once you get going but trenches on takeoff and turnout. Like others have said tho with a track on the hill its an arm strecher.

I think so far that camoplast kind of hit the ball out of the park years ago with the camoplast extreme and its going to be really hard for them ever to find a better design that works better for all around full season mountain riding. So far i've left the 5.1 on both sleds but will probably go the extreme route unless we start to see a big change.

My friend put the peak on a 2011 etec

He really likes it. Says it works better than the stock track worked in deep dry powder. When i follow behind him you can't get close because of the huge roost it puts off. To me it looks like it moves a lot of snow. Looks impressive.

600 miles on mine on 12 pro rmk. Only reason it's still on is because I'm waiting for drivers to install my 153 single ply camo extreme. Very disappointed with the peak. Nearly every lug has torn where they are slotted and over 30% outermost lug edge is completely gone. Really wish I would've given the stock track a shot.

Is your pro stock? Have you contacted camoplast to see what they will do about it? Does not sound good.

I just put a Peak on my stock 163 and my Buddy has a Stock 163 as well. The only advantage (and this is a huge one IMO) is that he has a drop and rolled chaincase. This really changes the attack angle. Something I feel Polaris screwed up on. Now that we're getting some snow we can line them up and get some real good comparisons. He wasn't trenching at all, in comparison to the stock track in stock location, with his new set up. I plan on doing the drop and roll and haven't done it yet. I'll post results as soon as I can.

3 inch pitch drivers arrived today :) Next time I ride the sled, it will have a 153 single ply camo extreme 2.5.

for sale-1 lightly used PEAK track!!!!!!! (actually it needs to be returned to camoplast)

Peak

I put one a peak 154" on my assault at the start of the season a great improvement over the assault track by any means. I was riding ladybird around Nelson BC around new years. 2 buddies had 2 new pro rmk 155" stock 2.5 track we were all weighing in the 190 to 200 lb mark with gear no performance mods just a cans. I could pull higher than the stock 2.5 with good speed by a good distance but the 2.5 had a better slow speed pickup and flotation starting off in the deep snow. The snow was deep but a little heavy with the temperature around -2C to 0C.
I just turbod the sled so we will see how it does with more power but I think I will stick with it this year and see how it pans out.

I have had many conversations with people about the new Yamaha track (forgive me if I have the wrong track in mind here). After reading the technology used in design I was really excited to find out how it would work on a lighter 2-stroke mountain sled. Our conversations led to talk about the track being designed for "heavy" mountain sled and how well it would work on those applications, but the design of the track would cause a 2-stroke have less flotation and not side-hill as well in untracked snow. We were discussing the yami track, stock Polaris track and the Power Claw. Our conclusion is similar to what I am reading in these posts.

I can't wait to purchase a new Polaris because you all will have this figured out for me! Thanks guys:D cheers.
