if you can get to mt. home i would! a lot of folks ride here. it is a little windy at times down here on the flats but holy **** it gets steep and deep. and its a short trip to the fun stuff... and there arent as many people like SLC area. just my .02

Im from Boise so I know all about the areas around there. Never got to ride the trinities but rode quite a bit around garden valley and mccall. Texas definiately sucks compared to the northwest.

I swear I will swap over to the Air Guard in Spokane or Boise and cross train unless they put my AFSC at a base that is closer than 2-3 hours to the snow. The only base I can currently go to that is close to snow is Schriever and its a small shop that is deploying 6 on 6 off...so there is a 50% shot that I'd be missing winter :(

I was VERY upset when they turned off the slots in fairbanks that I could have went to:(

air force sledder

I'm also from Mountain Home and I ride with daner and as he said the riding here is great. I am currently deployed but plan on being home for the best part of the season and can't wait to ride. pray for lots of snow from the snow gods!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not in the military and don't mean to hijack a thread. But I'd like to thank all of you for your service. Thanks for preserving our freedom!

Ok so just thought of something. We should all try to plan a ride around different posts and take video I bet it would be interesting see what branch and post/base has for riding styles. Just another crazy thought

I've been stationed at Malmstrom AFB, MT; F.E Warren AFB, WY;
Hill AFB, UT, & Cheyenne Mountain AB, CO.

All have great riding, but The Snowies in WY have the best snow riding areas hands down. Not bashing the other states, been there done them....great riding, but the Snowies and areas around McCall ID, have the most consistant snow fall, and best off trail riding in the lower 48....ok around the Rockies.

Just so ya know, UT's claim to the greatest snow on earth...is false for sledders. The 400 plus inch anual snow fall around Alta is for skiers only.....no sleds.

After that lucky to see 300 plus, but there are some great riding areas. Was partial to Tony Grove, but still no comparison to the Snowies.

I'm retired AF and live in sled heaven. Mtn Home was a nice assignment but Alaska is mo' betta.

Elmo, Eielson, Wainwright, Richardson, Greely--lot's of PCS opportunities. C'mon up and ride! (halloween to easter)

Yep. The Air Force brought me to Elmendorf Afb Ak. Now that is sled heaven. After 4 years here, they said I was going going to Omaha Ne. NO WAY IN H3LL!!! That was in 87 when uncle sam said I was leaving and I am still here. Some days I regret getting out after 8 years. Then I look out the window and remember why I am still working and not retired now. No regrets. You guys get a chance to come to Alaska, take it. Just be ready to never leave.

I could be a military sledder come next year, just in the Canadian Military. Looking at applying to the Army in the first part of next year. It'd be cool to be part of the PPCLI in Alberta, since great sledding ain't too far away!

We'll see what happens.

20 years in the USAF, I have rode places I never knew had snow (New Mexico). Started riding when I was 3 and have never stopped. I had to keep 3 sleds in Upper Michigan to ride while I was stationed in Texas for 5 years. I would just come home for the holidays....My family still thinks I drove 24 hours straight to see them;)
Been in Alaska the last 12 years and love it!!! But now the family needs us, so back "to DA UP" for us next week.

Prior Service, US Army, 82nd Airborne, Ft. Bragg NC.

While I was active duty I was HEAVY into SCUBA.
We would pack up the bronco, and make a wild 12 hour dash down to florida on Friday night. Dive all day Saturday and Sunday morning, then make the 12 hour drive back north to base.

We did this as often as we could.

Knowing that I was willing to do that to go cave diving in Florida, I am SURE our current active duty members would be willing to do the same to find GOOD SNOW.
