Any one want to help me kill the neighbor kid?

I used to be a nice a hell of a nice guy until last fall. I borrowed my favorite tack driving rifle to a guy who's handled guns his entire life. His rifles were in storage and he needed a rifle for the weekend. Mr. Friendly brought it to my door with the stock split from the forend to the trigger and chipped glass in the eyepiece. He said, "Thank you for letting me use your rifle". The rifle never shot again even with the stock repaired. $2,300 loss on my end. Nice guys do finish last. At least he said, Thank You.

That sucks :( but when you loan stuff out you have to check it out when it comes back. you shouldn't loan anything out you arnt prepared to lose to many things can happen and only good friends will fix it or make it up to you.

First of all.......props to you for being such a nice guy in the first place. The world needs more people like you. I think what goes around comes around.....good and bad. The more good stuff you put out there, the more you are going to get back.

Sometimes it does come back to bite you in the arse, but I think this is a good character test. I would try and use this opportunity to teach the young guy a life lesson if you can. Bring him over and get him to help you tear it apart.

Why didn't you check the sled out after it was returned? How do you know that it was returned in that condition if you didn't even bother summerizing it?

That sucks...but it can go both ways depending on the person who you are lending to.
Example: I was out of town last year so I let a friend borrow a sled so he could take the wifey up. When I got home, it was in better shape then when he took it. He had changed/fixed/repaired some parts and I think he even took it in to get serviced.

As far as the freeloaders--everyone who sleds knows one. There is always going to be someone that has a sled but no trailer, always needs oil, plugs, belts, gas, food, etc. I can't figure out how someone can afford a $12k sled but not a $30 jug of oil.

Gas up your sleds before picking up freeloaders, that way they can fill their own up if they need.

you're right

you let the neighborhood kid borrow your dads sled, then you didn't check it out? let alone summerize it?

dude!

I have to agree with the obvious, as much as that kid should be drug by his feet.

My dad has a resident mechanic. all he has to do is show up, and ride. Everything said, you should have noticed it when you summerized it.

Sounds like my day. Was supposed to get up early and load up the sled for a nice sunday spent on the sled. Lent my new 08 2500HD CC truck to my girlfriend last night (against my better judgement) so that she could go visit a few friends in town for the holidays. She comes home around 10 and says 'guess you were right, i shouldn't be driving your new truck.' Tore off the rear bumper off and smashed in the rear side panel...how you ask? backing up out a well light store parking lot!!!
I feel your pain

A lot of things were going on for me at the time. At that point of time we had 9 different sleds we were working on and now we have 4. Its been a rough year.

As far as not winterizing the sleds, all i do is pull carbs and clean them, put new plugs and pump the old fuel out of the tank.

I also check chain case and driveshaft/jackshaft bearings and the belts. Other than that I don’t ever need to do anything. The sleds that get stored inside have a lot more problemes than the ones outside.

Yeah I know what you mean. Seems like every time someone needs a favor im there first to volunteer to help. But as soon as i need somethen every one has plans or they are to busy. But im always going to be the nice guy and probably finish last oh well.:beer;:beer;

Story of my life right there.
It gets old real fast.

Ive been there too but not with a friend, with my brother. When I bought my M7 I had a XCR 800 aswell. My brother lost his license (passing a schoolbus) and needed a way back and forth to work. He asked if he could use my XCR so since I wasnt using it I told him to use away at it, but make sure it comes back the same way it left. Less than 3 weeks later the crank is toast, 3 heads ruined, 2 cylinders useless, all pistons burnt , the primary had a huge chunk missing, hood was cracked, and the track had a huge rip.
He said he was gonna buy it off me for a little less than what I paid since I had the sled less than 6 months, but of course I never got a cent.
What happened was he would never let it warm up and just drive it. So I guess one day he seized one piston but kept riding. Later he told me the sled was working like crap for awhile and he thought it was just the plug so he kept riding it. Speed runs with him and his friend on back dont turn out too well when running on 2 of 3 cylinders.
Needless to say he hasnt used anything of mine since. He kinda got upset earlier this year when he asked to take my M7 for a ride and I laughed at him. Id let a blind drunk take my stuff before I let him again.

He's a kid. Kids forget. Hopefully, you will educate him (without killing ;) ) so that he can become more like you and less like his obvious lack of upbringing.

But I would definitely not be in a position to "lend" him anything else, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me!

Respect for other people's belongings is a lost art, maybe this is a small opportunity for you to help get a little of that back.

Hope nothing permanent was damaged...

Ditto!

And you shuld have speciefied "western" in your washington rant:face-icon-small-win

Sucks but there are still good pieps out there, Loaned my 02 to some good peips last weekend, Had a couple things wrong with it ( had to steal the oil cap off it to use on the D7, funny story) and my recoil was about worn out on it, Things I knew about and know IM RESPONSIBLE for . Well sled came back with a new oil cap, full tank of gas, and the guy wants to pay for the parts for the recoil, even after I explained I new it was about shot and its not a big deal, still wants to pay for it. Not going to let him but there are still good pieps out there. Honestly you are as much to blame on this as anyone. If you loan stuff out the first thing you do when you get it back is check it out and make sure nothing is wrong with it. Dont pass all the blame about having to tear it down to the other guy. If you would have been smart you would have looked at it when he brought it back and could have thrown new plugs in and avoided all the stupid drama.
