Another Yamadoo

whats up

Couple things that I have been up too. I have my intercooler welded up the way I want it now. Also mocked up the charge tube tonight and will weld it tommorrow. it is pretty short with no tight bends. This should be efficent as possible. I will have to figure out where to put the BOV and Pitot tube after I get it welded up. I am going to work on the Downpipe tommorrow night. I plan to bring home the 120 volt welder to tack it how I want otherwise it will be hard to get it in the right spot.

New wiring harness, Unmolested.

Holy Crap thats tight

This will give you some ideas.

Mine looks like alot of room compared to this one. Wow. Either way i have a needle valve flow control sitting on my desk. I think I will be able to make finer adjustments with it than this type of Valve. This is great help though! I will probally mount the valve in the same spot as his is.

Thanks Neil!!!!!

flow control

There are a couple types of these. I can get one that controls flow in one direction and free flows in the other or one that will control the flow in both directions. So I should be able to find one that works for me. Very controllable. In small increments.

Also I like how he moved the post forward. I think I may be able to get away with not doing that but will have to see. His motor is tilted way forward compared to mine.

Ya no problem. I wanted you to see how he moved up his pyramid frame and his steering at the bottom of the post.
Your sled will be as tight once you get coolant, fuel, oil and electrical all in there. He runs stock headlight too.

Totally agree, There is alot of stuff yet to go onto my sled. I am trying so hard to keep it as clean as possible but it is hard. I did get the oil tank, and coolant on it the other day and am pretty decently happy with how it looks. I could sure use some custom formed rad hoses though. I am running the ski doo intank pump again because i like the pickups that it has. The Turbo 4 strokers have alot of stuff going on, charge tube, ic, turbo intake. Etc. I can't wait to have it done and ride it though. Heck even just have it done and start it up!

I welded up the charge tube here this morning before work and it looks good. I need to decide on BOV placement and which BOV I want to go with and weld the fitting on for that tommorow.

update

Didn't get anything done this weekend. I am ready to start making the gas tank now. I have most of the components done and need to just put it together and do a final fit and finish on them. I am going to build a new Chromoly steering post this evening and then I can get alot done. The gas tank will take a bit of time to get it how I want it as well. I plan to build it out of poster board first and then copy that to aluminum. It may have alot of weird cuts to get the capacity out of it that I am looking for as well.

I cleaned up the garage this last saturday morning and had to do a little photo shoot with my daughter. She already love the big boost!

Tank and DP

Got some work done on the tank and the downpipe in the past week. I have cut the bottom of the downpipe to a slash cut yet and weld in the O2 bung.

The tank should be right at 10 gallons. I am not accomplishing that I wanted to keep the enitre tank conceiled under the seat and trunk. So it will stick out a little under the tail of the seat but not extend any further back. I will just powder coat it wrinkle black and it should fit in well with the trunk plastic piece. i need to machine a pc for the fuel level sensor and the intank pickups. I am going to use the pickups from a 04 sdi. it has two pickups on it with check valves on either one. This helps it use the fuel down to the bottom. I am not going to put the pump in the tank though. As it takes up alot of room and I would rather that build fuel.

steering post

I got to use my cousins bender tonight. It works very well. The post is 16 guage wall thickness chromoly. It has more than enough clearance now from the IC. It is a little tighter on the backside of the headlight now. Oh well i can work with that.

Also some more pics of the tank sitting on the sled. Should be pretty nice i need to order another pc of aluminum. A couple bends with a nice full pc will save 32.5 inchs of weld.

And the last pic is of my coupler blocks. Should help with the ski lift. I now have a wide range of adjustment.

Also bought a different rad cap and tee assembly. This will save alot of pain trying to stuff the stock coolant tank in there. Should help clean up the engine compartment as well. May be a pain to burp but will see.

shes comin along nice.. I like the transfer blocks.. What kinda skid is that?? I want to do a transfer block like that... what are they off of??

I had a good laugh about the steering post sticking out the top of sled.. but the post looks nice.. should work out real nice like.

It is a cat skid with white lightning billet rails. The Transfer blocks I made myself. I am not sure how this skid will work with the added power but it is in there already and I am not changning the skid this year.

Yeah I think that the rise is a little high on the post right now! I may take it down a few feet. Once I get the tank done the major fab work is done and then all that needs to be done is assembly. Which will go quickly. I ordered that pc of aluminum and that should be here mid next week.

thanks

awesome build! you are one hell of a craftsman! any progress on the beast?

Thank you, I have not done all the work. I get alot of help in certain welding from a cousin and a guy from work. It is pretty easy to see what I weld compared to them.

I was going to work on the tank today and it snowed to much and the roads were to crappy to go the the shop at work and get anything done. I did stay home and work on some stuff on it in the garage. I got the cooling lines routed and the wiring routed as well. I wish that i could make new hoses with nice formed bends but the ski doo ones seemed to work ok. I found out I need a new fitting for the one cooling hose to the turbo as well. As it won't clear the seat.

I am hoping i get in and work on the tank and get a few things powder coated as well tommorrow. This will make some real progress.

lookin awsome.. and i know what you mean on the coolant hoses.. gotta pick and chose and see what you can make look clean.. word of advice for you.. put some osrt of heat sheild between the turbo and the seat... and heat tape your seat.. mine already starting distorting from the heat just raod riding, no intense WOT pulls.

either which way. lookin awsome, you definately got some good fab skills.. i like how its all coming together.. wish mine was this clean!!

The hot side of the turbo will have a heat shield over it. Right now the one coolant hose is about 3/4 of a inch from the turbine housing and this makes me nervous. The shield and some heat tape should help this though. The compressor side of the turbo touches the seat pan in the one spot and I will have to clearance the seat pan in that spot.

Thank you all for the words of encouragement about the clean build. I am trying extremely hard to keep is simple and clean. I hate having to work on a rats nest or look at it for that matter. It makes daily maintenance easier as well. Because I can see any problems because they are not hidden.

I rode my 800 renagade today and man, this turbo sled has wrecked me! I love turbos.
