Another Yamadoo

I have to finish a heat shield for between the turbo and tank and coolant lines and seat and then the seat is going back on. I will be loading it on the trailer tonight and I am thinking I may get a wild hair to ride it just a small amount across the field without the seat. The heat shielding needs to be done though before any big riding happens. I don't wanna burn it up.

Rode it

I must have gotten a mile on it last night. Haha Either way I rode it up and down the block probally 6 times. It feels like it runs good. It is really hard to tell though without being able to get on it in deep snow. I don't have a headlight on it right now so I didnt dare go any farther in the dark.

My bov doesn't seem to be working though. I have it on how dave at powderlites reccomends but it is not reacting as fast as i want. I will probally be putting it in the other way.

Yamadone. . . . . . .

Finally I will be taking the yamadoo for a longer ride today. . . probally will put 30+ miles on it today. I have been riding it just close around here and I feel good about it. It had a few hiccups at first. I ended up going with a valve between the pitot and the carbs. I was going to use a flow control before and it didn't seem to be working. I also was having a problem with the fuel running out after short distances at wide open just after I would let off it would sputter and die. I turned the fuel pressure up and this should take care of that. Also the bosch BOV i was using I am not sure was sealing. I think it was leaking boost. Either way I had a cheapo turbo xs valve that I install and am happy with it for now. I may install a turbo smart vee port that i have next week.

nice work man.. sled looks awsome. lets see some videos of it ripping around.

as for the valve in the pitot tube line.. I tried one in a sort of flow controlw way (carb shutoff vavle) with limited sucess, the little bleeder valve showed the best results, althought you still cant do a TON with it or your midrange gets crazy lean. but a nice tuning tool for some mild elevation adjustments.

edit--- I also just noticed the IC mounts to the motor mount on the bottom. I like that, keep it all from bouncing around. sleds like this always have growing pains, but that shows that you ahve really put in the time and effort to get it done once and done right. this thing should be a really fun sled for you.

bov

Heck, I just said screw it and ordered a vortech from summit racing overnighted. I want it to work good, I need it to work good. If I don't need it I will just not put it on. In the mountains there is no room for a BOV to not work good.

can we get an update on the yammadoo? hows it runnin?!

It is not running very good. I don't know what happened it seems to be way down on power. It gave me issues out west. I think most of that was clutch out there and a little jetting. Either way I rode it a bit out there and then blew a chain on a climb and it over revved pretty hard. I am not sure if this is what caused it. I am trying to figure out the problem now but I really think it is motor related. Overall I was happy with how it handled, even though the motor was just not running as it should have out west. I didn't think it seemed overly heavy.

Hope to get it figured out this weekend so i can get onto a solution for it and get it back together this year yet and be able to put a good running machine away for the summer. This always makes me feel much better.

Hope you get the bugs worked out. As for the rest of the sled and your fab process......congrats dude! Very very well thought out and done right from the get go. I've been trying to get my buddy with a T-Vec to donate his sled and we'll co-own a T-DooVec but he doesn't seem to be onboard.....oh well.
The one NM mentioned, I've seen it run on numerous occassions and it hangs right with the 4-bangers in Yammi chassis all day long. I'm not sure what is done to it, but it's a very very stock looking machine.
Again, congrats on the build(and your daughter - awesome pic of both of you on the sled) and again, hope you get the bugs worked out soon!

I thank you for the kind words of encouragement. I am about ready to junk this thing because the motor is just not working right. I am going to finally break down and take it to someone to have it worked on. I really don't want to get to the end of the season and still not have a sled that runs right and have to work on it all summer. I really wanted to do a couple other things to it this summer like a new tunnel, and make it really sharp looking. right now it has alot of stuff that is not Sharp looking. and I know for a reasonable price I can build a new tunnel and do some finish work to the chassis to set it apart from others.

O by the way I had Mountain mod 7 on the tv and I left the room for a while and my wife said that my daughter was glued to the tv watching the snowmobiles. She usually doesn't watch tv. So this is good news but probally very expensive news for me down the rode too.!!!! Haha

thats too bad. hope ya get the issues worked out. it takes all the fun out of ridin if they are givin ya trouble. hope ya get her figured out! good luck!

Turbo

So I think I have figured out what has been plaguing me for more than half of the year.

For some reason the carb boots on the head will not keep the carbs in them. The reason I have been having such a hard time figuring this out is because #1 it is wicked hard to see and #2 they actually don't fall out, and all three don't come out at a time. The bottom of the clamp kinda slides back and slips off the carb. Off boost I am sure there is no leak because my intercooler can't really move. on boost I am sure they are leaking, the turbo is working its tail off(probally why the header is red hot without working it hard) creating alot of back pressure, but still making boost but making it laggy, and probally only giving me two cylinders really that are boosted. So esentially I have a phazer turbo.

things to do.

#1 put on different boots with new clamps.
#2 Design some type of turnbuckle to sandwhich the carbs
#3 make darn sure that my intercooler is aligned perfectly not pulling the carbs up or down.

I tried for about 2 hours to get the carbs on straight and clamped correctly with no luck over the past two nights in a warm 65 degree garage. I am sure that when I changed the jetting out west in 10 degrees they probally could have been on right either.

I am excited to get this problem fixed because I want my sled back that feels like it just comes uncorked when you sqeeze the throttle not one that feels like a 4 stroke without boost.

FIXED!!!!

Well I got it fixed finally. I Put on large worm drive clamps. I am going to try to get some with a rolled edge before i ride it to much so they won't cut the boot. I also changed my mount locations for the intercooler, as It was pushing up on the carbs.

I am back to blue/pink/blue spring in the primary. Black/lime green spring in the secondary and 44 degree helix.

glad to hear!!! it always sucks having something slowing you down so you cant get out and ride!

I'm not sure about the vector but on the rx1 clamps you need to take the spacer out and they work fine after that.

Ken....

yeah, make sure the carbs sit straight out of the boots, and just take the limiters out of the boots, then your good to go, as long as there straight you wont leak.

glad you got something good is goin for ya. hope it rips now!!

I think I have the jetting and pressure referencing figured out to the carbs now, But just in case this is my little secret weapon!

that is a slick little setup.. should work well for you, and because yours isnt inline, i think it will work better to bleed pressure at higher levels and have a little less affect on the midrange, but who knows.
