Another UTAH SW Pic of the Week

Yeah, I learned to ride there with a lot of Old Timers that really new the area.

Still have fond memories from a couple yrs ago.

Camera phone pic while I dug myself out.

It was the Mirror lake side.

sledhead: in one post you say the pic of the week was the soapstone area and then in this thread you mention on the mirror lake side. aren't these two completely different riding areas that are not connected (other than by travling quite a ways down the main groomed highway)??

I would say about the same. Soapstone is about 5 miles up and over from the parking lot, where we were is maybe 5 miles down the highway and about 5 up an ungroomed trail. All in all, the same area, (or at least parking lot) just different directions and two completely different types of riding.

Yeah, my bad. To me everything past Butterfly Lake is on the other side. I guess that feels like a summit to me. Must be from my road biking days (no motor). LOL

Realistically Bald Mtn would be the Summit point.

Geesh, you read too thoroughly. Just aim for the Pow and stop being so technical. J/K:p

I consider your side the "other" side since I would have to drive an extra hour to get there. this season i will make it up though! Soapstone parking is just the start for me. I talk with my riding buddies and we say "lets go to Soapstone" and then one of us will say "which way?" and we go from there.

sorry, I'm just still learning the area and spend a lot of time looking at maps and reading details. Every ride, we push a little further into new territory. We've explored the north end of MLH near Whitney & Elizabeth and the south end at Soapstone Basin. This summer after hiking and fishing near Trial Lake, I discovered there's a ton more riding area in the middle here near Mirror Lake - that's the reason for me looking for clarification. Utah is such as amazing pace to ride!!

Only problem with Mirror Lake is the road ride. 20 miles from North Slope gate and I'm guessing about the same from Soapstone.
Too much good riding being passed up to get there. But you're right. There is some great riding up there.;)

Yes there is!! But beware, cause the rocks up there are the size of houses!! I usually wait until the snow level is up before riding there. And for the record, this area is probably the best spring riding in the state.

Only about 5-6 miles to Spring Canyon. We usually come out Trial and hit the groomed trail back. Nothing like riding a nice smooth road after a hard day of riding!!

For you GPS guys, how many have ridden Northwest from Mirror Lake and dropped in to Holiday Park (Smith and Morehouse)?? How about from Mirror Lake back west to Hoyt Peak (above Weller's)??

ACG - You seem to know the area a bit, been to Big Elk Lake or Erickson Lake? How about Anchor Lake?? Been up through the Notch??

You ever ride the River Bed on the way back. It's a Riot.:eek::beer;
Well, until GP drops through the ICE.

I've been to all of those. Fun to ride tree's and pop out at the next lake. That's when the GPS comes in handy. It's too fun and easy to keep moving.

Ooops, my bad. I'm thinking of the Island lake area.
Never ridden Elk/Erickson area.

You take the Norway Flat road to access Elk area?

Have been in and out that way a few times. :) And although it is legal (as long as your stay on the road until you get to Big Elk), the cross country skiers don't like you being up there!!

Normally access it from Trial, just have to know the way.

Wait a minute........ Riding the river was fun. The only hole I fell in was the one 1Mex left.:eek:;) Something you people need to know about him, he is famous for little boobie traps...:face-icon-small-hap

BTW.... Corey and Ron you two are confusing the heck out of me...

Thats what I thought!! :)

Tell you what, I will show you the rest this year!! And with no GPS. ;) And bring your "A" game cause there are some tricky spots!!
