Aftermath of a tether failure...

I've been using and selling the Pro-designs tether all year because of recommendations from others. I have now pulled the Pro-Designs tether from my snowmobile section of my website. It can be found in the ATV/Accessories section.

These tethers here are sold for and more than likely more robust for snowmobile applications.

Thanks Paul. I think it would also be a good idea to even list directly on that tether (not for snow use). When i purchased mine through you it was in the snow section but I was also going off the recommendation of other personal friends. I also told a LOT of other people to get them too. Feel kinda bad about that now.

Just an FYI...I have been having problems with the stock Polaris tether I got from Michelle at OTS not working properly either...

Sometimes it works...others it doesn't...

Not a great feeling honestly!!!

Paul I have seen other posts where people are complaining about those Pro Design tethers not working properly. They should have been pulled a long time ago. You also need to get in contact with every person you eve sold one and at least let them know the safety device you sold them doesn't work ALL the time. If I were you I would offer a full refund and strongly advise your customers to remove those tethers. This is a $7000 deal and the guy is being really cool to you. Someone gets hurt or killed and now it's a $700,000 or $7,000,000 deal. All these threads are searchable and don't think some lawyer won't find them. You know about the problem, if you don't do everything you can to fix it the lawyers will have a field day with you.

Yeah, I am selling a product from my distributors snowmobile catalog. I didn't manufacture the product. I think this needs to go back to the manufacturer. I will see if I can contact them and WPS about the issue. This insn't to say other tethers can not fail including the Polaris and other aftermarket brands.

I also saw where the individual that had the accident and few other mentioned Paul from Sled Solutions. I am Randy (A.K.A Paul_Aris) from Go Big Parts. I am not sure if the custoemers are confussed from who they purchased from or not but I sold a lot of them.

I get it. You didn't make it. You are a small company. It is going to be a huge costly hassle. But is someone gets hurt and the lawyer(I really hate lawyers and the whole lawsuit epidemic in this country) can show where you were aware of the problem and didn't do everything you could to correct it you will regret it. Even if you just notify everyone you sold one too and didn't refund their money it would look a lot better than doing nothing. As is, maybe 5-10% of people(tops) are having the issue but for a safety feature that is too high. Do whatever you think is right but be prepared for the consequences either way. Just friendly advice....

We are currently having discussions and developing a plan.

Hey Randy, sorry for the mix up. I purchased mine through GoBigParts.com along with my Air-Frame order early fall of 2012. Accidentally confused the two companies because I just ordered some stuff through sled solutions on Tuesday morning and his name was Paul. Then I remembered your SN on here and thought it was the same person. Sorry about the confusion. Anyway just wanted to clear that up. Your site is not pulling up my order history now though?

theletup is my account name on your site. Cory Howard (Coeur d'Alene, ID) Order pro design tether and air-frames on same order. Shipped to my shop (Save More Automotive)

Sorry Randy, as soon as you pulled the product the potential liability was escalated, since you've know acknowledged you may have distributed a faulty product. You did the right thing! And there is precedent for harmless distribution - ask anyone that distributed an abestos product in the 50's and 60's.

The product liability lawyers could spin anything from most any action. Hope you are getting good advice from your insurance and legal council. It's part of doing business, I applaud you for doing the right thing, and I'll keep buying stuff from you. Thanks again for being a standup business. Good luck!

This was done because of what I've read on the forums. I Don't want to sell stuff that may fail. I have not experienced a failure on the ones we are riding with here.

THANK YOU FUN COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So.... I cannot say enough about the family at Fun Country Power Sports in The Dalles, OR today. The 9 hour round trip was COMPLETELY worth it!!! Alec hooked me up with a ridiculous deal on this new '13 and together working with his parents (owners) they basically covered my down payment for me. This allowed me to get back on the snow this year without missing half my season. Not only were the most friendly and welcoming dealer I've ever seen before but they took care of me like family. This place is a small family operated (Mom, Dad, and son) dealer and I will gladly make the trip to purchase all my future sleds from them. They are all sledders and have a passion for the sport and you can tell. On top of taking care of me financially they also hooked me up with a happy face clamp on the QD side of the drive shaft and put the polaris "fix" collar on the clutch side to ensure I won't have any issues. They worked hard getting me a sled un-crated and set up in time for me to even make a break-in ride before the weekend is over. I was seriously blown away with how these guys took care of me after my accident on Tuesday (just not what I'm used to with my local dealer). I feel like I have new friends and highly recommend everyone in the Northwest to support this family. I'm going to be calling them for all my parts as well.

Thank you Fun Country! So stoked!

Today has been a great day. After thinking my season was over to towing home a new sled today it makes the thousands I lost on my '11 just a bit easier :face-icon-small-hap Let's ride!

All is well that ends well (back on the snow). Great story & great looking Pro. Thanks for sharing.

I use this and it have never failed on me... :face-icon-small-coo

Yup, the key is to get one with an o-ring to keep moisture out which freezes and causes the failure. I use the Gunnar version (made in USA) which has the o-ring. The Pro version is made in China and has no o-ring; I guess it works for ATV's but should be banned for sleds!

Have FUN!

I'm confident we've still got some great riding left this year!

akmclean - no need to kick this guy in the nuts, FYI not everybody can get full coverage for $200, I'm one of them.

If you can afford a new sled like his - you can damn well afford insurance. If you can't, you have bigger issues.

Wow. Maybe in the future, read twice before u post. I didnt say I can't afford ins, or that I don't have it, thx though.

My Pro Tether was mounted plunger down & worked fine for the first 3/4 of last yr before it failed.
