Advise on a Pro Purchase 2011 vs 2013

Better pistons, seat, quick drive, lighter possible warranty on the '13

$2000 put into the '11 could make same big gains though, tough call.
 
Does PAR warrant their engine? Which track length do you want, many opinions on both sides of the 155 vs 163? Be aware of what is involved with transferring a Polaris warranty it needs to be done right and there are some very specific requirements! Check to make sure all the updates are done on the 13. IMO both of these are overpriced, but that is just me. Is a 13 worth $2k more than a 11, I would have to say yes, just my opinion and I own an 11. 13 is lighter, better track record on the engine, warranty, belt drive, different front end geometry, better seat.
 
$8k isn't too bad for a long rod motor with no miles. If you got him down to $7600 that is a pretty good deal depending on the rest of the sled. It also has the new boards.

I have both a 2011 and 2013 Pro. I would "swear" that the 2013 feels more potent than the 2011. You could say it is the weight but I don't think that's all. The 2013 just feels more snappy. I did have to change a drive belt on my 2013 but it was covered under warranty. If I kept my 2011 I would consider a long rod kit but I believe it will be up for sell soon.
 
I also have a 2011 and 2013.... I think they are both priced a little high, I have to agree with BugIto.... there is definitely a difference between the two sleds, my 2013 Pro 163 has had 0 issues, handles better, and pulls harder than the 2011 ever did... but I would think that to be Polaris's intention so they can sell sell sell....
 
Just an FYI I just sold my 2013 with the exact same miles as that one for $8,900... You could've bought brand new held overs last spring for $9,200.
 
Thanks for all the feedback guys. I agree both are over priced for sure, I wouldnt buy them if it meant paying the price they are advertised for. I rode a 13 and yeah, I definitely noticed how snappy they were. If I were to get a 13, is'nt there a new belt out there that is less prone to having issues. Something like its more heat resistant, so less fatigue?

It kills me to see the deals on Brand new sleds for less than these guys are asking. The guy with the 2013 is friends with my "friends" and said his low is $9500. I think if it were $9000 Id be happy with the purchase, but $9500 just doesnt seem like that good of a deal, however I am subject to a different pricing system than other places in the US.
 
As for the tracks, Im really not sure. I thought I wanted a 163, but now Im not sure if it really matters? Does the 163 "really" make that much of a different when it comes to climbing etc?

I had an 11 Pro 155 and traded it for a 12 Pro 163. I can definitely tell the difference in the deep powder. I won't say a good rider could not get the 155 to go anywhere a 163 would but the 163 is more forgiving in the deep powder...
 
Is the 155 better at anything? Maybe wheelies and a bit more nimble?

I agree...way too much for either of them. I just bought (couple weeks ago) a NEW 2012 zero miles RMK 800 Pro 163 at the Polaris dealer in Reno for $8800. He also offered me a new 2013 with zero miles for $9850. I can buy used 2011's and 2012's all day long in NorCal and Northern Nevada for between $6500 and $7500 some with under 500 miles! If your looking at the $9000 price range and can afford to buy now (summer time and they're trying to make room for the 2014's) I'd buy new. This is your BEST time as seen by the deal I just got. Some dealers are willing to take a loss to sell the older sleds NOW and get'um out of the way for the new ones. I looked at the new technology they are using (gluing everything togther including the jackshaft I believe) and knowing Polaris lack of quality control and how those joints work, I chose the 2012 over the 2013. Might be worth a day's trip to come to Reno and grab the new 2013 he still has.

Thanks John, you make some good points. There are a couple really good deals around here at the dealers. We actually have a really good Polaris Dealer in the area that has a demo 2013, but it was still over 10k. Might be worth asking them what kind of deal they can swing.
 
Mike, When I rode with Dan Adams last year one of his comments was that he would have everyone on the longer track if he could. I think you will find many say that you can do everything you need to on a 155, me I'm going to give a 163 a try this year. Based on some of the opinions that mention they feel it floats better and gets stuck less. Probably comes down to more of what style of riding you do, where you ride, experience, your weight and size and on and on.

Myself, I would take the 11. No belt drive problems or drive shaft problems. Better yet if you could find a 12.
To update an 11 to 13 standards: $450 or less for running boards. $950 for C3 Syncrodrive belt drive.

As far as track length, I bought my 11 Pro with a 155, when I replaced the tunnel and track I went with a 163. With the 155, some days I wished I had more, with the 163, I have never had a day where I said I wished I had a short track. Didn't notice anything drawbacks in handling with a longer track and I ride a lot of tight trees. Just my .02
 
Thanks snowdawg, that really helps me out! A 2011 with 163" just went up near me for $7500, hopefully he'd be willing to take $7,000, $6500 would be even better..........
 
In my mind the163 handles better. It side hills better and doesn't wash out as easy and it's no less nimble in my mind. So why buy a 55?
