850 bogging

My 850 is also bogging and I have 10.2 hrs and set on "NON ETH". It had it when new but is getting worse as I log more hrs. Love the sled but it's hard to ride in the deep with this bog unless I ride fast. It usually only bogs when going slow and then you stab the gas. My dealer said they had a few reports of the situation and polaris is aware of it with no fix yet. Kinda sux because it's my first polaris and I really enjoy it until it bogs. I hope the fix soon"

So if these engines get more bog as they get hours on them it is possible that they are making more power and the bog is a an engine protection mode from revving too fast? Now with guys adjusting plug gap and reducing bogging and with me running hotter plugs, is there a possibility that we are reducing performance with the plug changes and therefore the ECM does not get the over-rev condition?? I don't notice this but will go back to my stock plugs to see if bogging is increased and then reduce gap to see changes. Hopefully weather is decent this weekend to do these tests.

This is one of the reasons why I sold my 850, the more hours on it the more frequent the bog. For my riding style the bog is very dangerous.

They must know about this - stutter - hesitation off idle and up to approx 4000-5000 rpm on mine too - 16 hours on it -163, 2.6 track RMK with Kurts' gear down kit - 2 sets of plugs now - gonna try hotter plugs till they sort out the fuel mapping issue - it's definitely fueling rich down low - leaves a light black streak in the snow on a hard pull from a stop !! Lol - Bikeman can - clutching right on now - maxing 8200 rpm - runs friggin great otherwise !
What are you using for clutching?

So maybe you jumped too quickly??? This may be easy to overcome.

This other Finnish guy did not even measure it, he just tapped it smaller :face-icon-small-con

I went to between 0,40 and 0,50 on my Plugs

Update from this other Finnish guy who has 850 Pro RMK. He went and bought new plugs and tool for measuring and reduced the gap to 0,45. Works really good and he is very happy. He even said that he dont need leaner mapping anymore because its working so well and puls good from low rpm also.

So this seems like an easy try. From 0.7mm (which does sound a bit large to my thinking) to 0.5mm (0.020") which is a very common plug gap.

Might explain why so much variability in sleds. If plugs had varying gaps from NGK, some would work well and others wouldn't depending on initial set up. Also explains why some got worse. Over time the ground strap rounds and a worn tip has a harder time igniting fuel...especially with a rich fuel ratio....

Gonna give it a try!

I was talking to my co worker about this issue. Hes a diesel mechanic and he said to me the other day before I came on to get updated on this forum " play with the spark plug gap, it might be that simple of an issue" guess ill be adjusting my plug gap next time up to camp! Hope it fixes mine as well!! ?

I will buy 6-pack of beer for you if you try it and it wont work.
I am that sure about this.
Too bad no one wants to try it and report it here. It takes like 10 minutes to do this.

What's a diesel guy know about spark plugs?

Let me rephrase for you guys who want to nitpick. Hes a mechanic who prefers to work on diesel trucks. A mechanically inclined guy, very knowledgable and I wanted to think outloud at work with him after a frustrating weekend of riding. All I was trying to say is he also sugguested gaping the plugs to eliminate a potential issue off the list. With the other member coming on telling us that by him reducing his plug gap it cleared his issue, for now, I wanted to share my thought as well. If changing the plug gap doesnt work or temporarily fix my bogging issue then it doesnt. Ill be damned if I'm going to sit here with my hands in my pockets after setting 14g on my dealers desk though. We all spend a lot of money and the season is short.

This is also why I dont post much, too many like to stray away from the topics. Lets all just try to help eachother.

If you couldnt grasp what I was saying

Haha I know it was a joke since diesels don't have spark plugs :face-icon-small-win

If your gonna mess with plugs then get the e3 spark plugs as they have 3 sparks. Then add some hotwires plug wires and you got all the spark and fire ya want. Diesel schmeisel. Haha!

My machine is at the dealer right now. First thing Monday I am going to be phoning them and asking them to do the programming. Can they refuse? They drove the machine and cannot make it bog so they think I am smoking some legal Canadian weed. Will let you know how it goes asap.

I gaped my plugs bpr9es to 0.500mm and went for a rip yesterday, i could not make it bogg and it ran like a "bat out of hell". I had a bogging and plug fouling issue before this. I will call my dealer to see whats going on with the new mapping, but if this sled keeps running like this i wont bother bringing my machine to the dealer.
I also installed pro ride quick drive gears in the 850 and loved the way it tranfers the power to the track, it was way more manageble in the tight trees.
