800 Recall

talked to my dealer about the recall, he said as soon as he hears something he will let me know, i mentioned i looked at part of the bulletin, he went on here to find out what its about, NICE REALLY NICE, the consumer can find out more than the dealer,

lol..thats funny ..mine gets pissed everytime I bring him new stuff........

My dealer gets a little funny to when I tell him what is coming...always says he does not know but calls me when it comes...

no warrenty with slp pipe

I was told as many were in 08 that the slp single pipe would not void the warranty. In fact as part to the effort to try and make this sled run in 08 purchasing a SLP pipe was actually suggested to my dealer though the Factory reps because they were getting report that the sleds with SLP single pipes were not having the problems the sleds with stock exhaust were having (didn't fix it just more money out of my pocket).

So I purchased a pipe because the dam thing just wouldn't run. Now unless the can that came with the SLP pipe will fit the Stock pipe I am stuck purchasing a new can (old one is gone because of the problems with broken parts inside the factory cans in 08), or they can void my warranty. This thing just keeps costing me more and more to fix.

I have spent a lot of money out of pocket over the last 2yrs based on suggestions from the dealer and his talking to the factory on things to try to make my sled run and I had to purchase a backup sled to ride last yr because there were no part to fix my sled and now I have to change out my exhaust again to maintain a warranty after they told me to change it to an SLP to try and fix the sled in 08.

NOT HAPPY, NOT HAPPY AT ALL!!

I wouldn't worry about the pipe and warranty , I might worry about your dealer thou, what probs are you having and what have you done? These things run great but can be improved , it's the longevity that was in question not the performance

I stopped in at the local dealer this morning to see when/how they will start installing these update Kits. They confirmed that the kits are available and there is a single orderable PN#for it (head/piston etc). The dealer also mentioned that they are going to install 2 of these kits on their own sleds before they do any customer sleds in order to avoid any potential "snags". Timelines for these test installs werent discussed.

They also showed me a laminated wall poster that was given to them by Polaris which details if/when/how the dealer needs to handle cylinder honing with respect to this update kit.

So far, aside from the silencer req's, it seems that Polaris may have their chit together on this one.

I have my fingers crossed.

Stopped in at my dealer today to get some motorcycle parts...had not talked to him for awhile. Before I said anything he says "you know we are rebuilding your motor in your sled". I said when do you want it and he said next time you come to town. He was expecting the parts any day now.

with as many avid polaris guys as there are on this forum especially the consumer will know more than the dealer 99% of the time when it comes to issues like this with the exceptions of dealerships that specialize in polaris snowmobiles ie: carl's cycle. all it takes is one guy to spill the beans on here and word will travel much faster than polaris themselves can get it to each dealership.

there is a polaris part number for the kit, but it will do no dealer any good until october 1st. polaris is shipping kits to each dealer starting september 14th based on a percantage of sleds sold last year (15% of 800's sold durring 2008-2009 season) if a dealer tries to order more kits now the part number will show back order w/ no eta date, you cannot VDO (vehicle down order) these parts i have tried! polaris doesnt expect any dealer to have the kits in their posession until the 15th of this month.

THARTS MR AHOLE to you!!!!and your right i`ll never be happy! cuz its still against the law to kill punks that yip off..

As far as I'm concerned, you gotta hand it to Polaris for not only ponying up on fixing the 09's, but also the 08's. I have an 09 800 Dragon and have had absolutely no problems with it. In fact, when my dealer called to tell me all the things they wanted to do to it, I actually said, "it runs so damn good I'm not sure if I want you to touch it!" And I sort-of meant it. Of course, I am going to take the upgrade from Polaris but I personally thing we should give them some props for stepping up to the plate and trying to make us happy.

I know they owe it to us because most of us trusted about $10K of hard earned money into their product, but I am just thankful that they seem to be doing everything possible to address the issue.

Just like snowfall.........better late than never boys!!!!!

Thx for the details Jkinzer. Your comment about the parts availabilty being mid September makes sense now as the local dealer mentioned he had not ordered any kits as of yet.

Btw,
This may have been mentioned somewhere else, but, I cant seem to find the info. How much time does it take to install the head and pistons once they get them?

last years kit polaris allowed 3.6-4 hours flat rate for the installation of 2 new pistons and head, allong with the new injector o-rings and umbrellas. so i would say it should be the same time frame this year.

labor time this year for warranty claim is 4.5 hrs...

recall

I bet most dealers will not do any re-honing of cylinders and if its warrenty work with new pistons and rings they should provide new cylinders.

We've installed two kits as of today have more of the initial shipment coming in and were told to order kits as needed they are instock, also we purchased a new hone kit ( same as our 1976 set ) just for this job, I'm possitive many other dealers will be doing the same as this is very important to keep a good customer base, some may not thou and then other dealers will pick up those customers for the future

Big changes, or not?

Now that the parts are in, can someone post some details? For example, I've heard that the pistons have a lot more changed than just adding another ring. And the head has some sort of unique combustion chamber. Perhaps Polaris has really done there homework this time?

polaris

I think polaris should do thier homework before manufacturing these sleds, the 900 and now the 800. They dont seem to know what R&d is.
