Long story short, the mounts holding my ECU cracked and in turn one of the ECU mount tabs cracked as well. Riding the sled, the motor had cut out and then I smelled something funny and popped the hood and sure enough there was some melted plastic coming from the broken area on the ECU.

I ordered up a new ECU (flashed for my yellow injectors) and mounted it up to some new mounts. Started the sled, let it idle for 10 min or so, then hopped on my trailer to raise the rpms a bit and the motor cut out. After a few minutes it started back up, ran for 20 sec or so then died again. I started it 1 more time and same result. I smelled the same thing as before coming from under the hood so I checked the ECU and it was hot to the touch on the side with the larger plug (the same side as the single mount tab). When the motor has been cutting out, the digital information screen (rpms, temp, etc) goes blank. Any ideas on what could be going on?

This is an 08 700 motor mounted in an IQR chassis.

Voltage reg is junk and cooks the ECU. Common to the 08 and 09s. New subbed regulators also have issues. I suspect it is a cooling problem so I took the capacitor off mine and mounted it elsewhere and added a small AC fan that blows right on top of the reg. also built some surg protection for the ECU. Haven't rode it much to see if it helps.
