7 stolen sleds from Revelstoke

so you think the 6 mounties that patrol from Revy to Sicamous/golden should sit out front of the hotel to protect your sleds??? They aren't dealing with the drunken sledders in the bar, or the drunken wife beaters are they???

no society is perfect dude

does alot of good to shoot someone and go to jail for a sled that can be replaced with insurance.... your wife and kids will love having a convict in the family.
don't come here, your loss not ours

..................we have over 15 cops in Golden alone...............and there are lots of places to hide bodies in the mountains!!!!!!

Finding stolen sleds does not generate revenue. Giving tickets to guys for seat belts, speeding, crossing the highway on your sled etc does.

So when the problem was really bad in 2006 ICBC, the RCMP and Snowmobile Revelstoke Society put together a Sled Theft Prevention program here in Revy. Here are the reports of thefts and ideas on how you can help to prevent the problem yourself.
http://www.sledrevelstoke.com/rcmp.htm
There are hotels here in Revy that do have cameras and secure parking. The police do do drive thrus at the hotel parking areas when they can during the winter tourism season. The problem has slowed down a lot for the last 2 yrs. but all the theives have done is move to another popular riding area. Do a search with stolen on this site and then tell me this is only a Revy problem or even an only north of the border problem.
Everyone needs to do their part to and not just blame everyone else.
Sled Theft prevention brochures are handed out with every trail map we hand out at Snow Shows and at the trailheads. How many of you have come down at the end of the day and found one on your vehicle?
We are doing something about the problem are you?

......and one more thing that concerns me is the way a lot of you list your toys in your signature line. You talk about where you are riding and staying and when. You think only sledders are reading this.

I hope he gets his sleds back....Any Vin #s or one-off parts to keep an eye out for??

DIfferent Slim.....

Is it true that snowmobiles don't have to be registered in B.C.?

absolutely true. This is why my stolen sled will never be found. Probably some other guy from calgary who rides in BC. Too much work for the BC thieves to come all the way to Calgary to steel a sled.

I have been stopped probably 10% of the time when I use the stagng areas in Alberta. They have the right to ask for registration and insurance. In BC, nada.

The amounts of vehicles with snowmobiles are super high in Revelstoke during the wintertime. It is unreal. I would bet that the concentration of thefts are there because of that large number.
It is on a highway that is the trans-canada, and it has a large capacity also.
When people are more aware, signs go up, saying baited vehicles are in town... etc. the thefts should drop.

I am betting Slim's thieves were scouting out his stuff... I mean isn't it a bit early to have sleds stolen by regular sled thieves?? and to steal such items that are not easy to get rid of...

As for the parts, I myself believe there is a used, or unmarked new parts ring going around. There is even speculation that some bike gangs do this in the winter to keep from getting bored.

Another thing I heard that works, is to put a baby monitor in the truck, or trailer... I will make you aware of what is happening.. and it will give you enough time to get your ball peen hammer out... er I mean "notify the authorities"...;)

Modsledr, Don't forget, we also will let you know when you can report back...:beer;:D:)

Kathy, this is the best point made on this thread.

Cuso, I have a shorter drive than you, so I got this one. :D :beer;

Another good idea...
that and the burnt fuse for the fuel pump...

Some people just make it way too easy for thieves. And that only hurts all of us.

i drive a ford , i leave the keys in it all the time ,
see if ya notice it isnt hard to see who the locals are and who isnt ,
the isnt shows up with a new truck and trailer worth way more than the cargo it packs .

my cargo that i pack is way more expensive than the truck that packs it . by about 15 times worth hahahaha

been here since 2000 would some one please steal my truck,

i have been in the recreation business all my life and have seen the guys toys get stollen in every part of the country. reason being is there just flat out hard to trackdown.no licence , no regristration , do checking any way .

last item stolen from me [ hadnt even had the papers at the bank dry and some one stole my new bike [left the dam truck ] again.

Pano,
They weren't friends of mine and everyone's seen that on TV.

I would call them............job security for me
