7 stolen sleds from Revelstoke

Not going to defend the thefts but, If you drive a Ford, have a way to disable it somehow (alarm, valet switch, etc.) and you are realatively safe.

I don't really care what you drive.... I it has trailer/sled attached to it take the few seconds each night to disable it and any other common sense precautions and you will always wake up to see your tow rig in the parking lot. Thieves are usually lazy and will move to something easier... It sucks to have to go the extra mile but I ALWAYS do...

Thanks for the link. My truck goes in for "forced by government" immobilizer on the 12th of November. At least it'll be there when I get back, what kind of shape it'll be in is a different story.

Wow.
Who would have thunk it.

Another year, another thread about sleds being stolen from Revy.
(And the season hasn't even started yet)

Sure doesn't make a destination vacation for this guy.

I know it CAN happen anywhere.
I also know it does happen in Revy more than anywhere else I've ever heard of.

You folks need to get your mounties to help fix this growing bad reputation.

Just my .02

not looking to stir the pot more, but i have also heard that if you make the vehicle, and or ,trailer too hard to steal, they like to vandalize(super glue in locks, ect....)
just wondering how true this is??????i too have had my rigs broken into up there, and i thought it was wa. that had the meth problem????

Here is a good one... Why have they not set up any sting operations there? We all know how common of a problem it is, I'm sure the police must know too; what is being done to deal with the problem???

This topic always makes me frustrated. Frustrated that people steal from hard working people, frustrated the RCMP sucks a$$, frustrated that Canada has a far greater crime problem than most think, and frustrated that American's don't know about most of the crime and think that us getting rid of guns will make us safer - like Canada - not. I drop a good amount of money in BC every year sledding, but it makes me think twice about going your way if your mounties can't get their chit together. Down here we take matters like this into our own hands kick some ***. Too bad you guys can't. I like the idea about the wolves though. :D

Come pry these guns out of my hands. I dare ya.

The businesses that we are supporting (especially the hotels) can help out too. Gates and extra security (cameras etc... ) can go a long way in the prevention dept. The big hotel in Valemount (Cranberry, used to be Holiday Inn) locks the gate at night and I haven't heard of any issues since they began doing that...

Law enforcement is only so good on both sides of the border. That is why they can't find my bud's corvette stolen from a hotel parking lot in Redmond. So I guess they suck *** on both sides of the border.:face-icon-small-dis

Staying at a B&B is usually a lot safer. The one my group stays in at Mcbride is out of the town about 10 mins, and they have plenty of dogs.....never even lock up the sleds there and never had anything go missing. I do know that a lot of hotels do seem to be getting gates, but not sure how much it will help.

A 3/4" seamless metal tube, taped with duct tape to the underside of your truck's steering column aimed at the head rest with a 00 buck shell in the bottom end with a model rocket igniter in place of the primer, hooked up to your ignition will definately stop the thief when he trys to start it.

Of course you must remember it's there so you can disconnect it before you start the rig yourself.

Obviously I'm joking about this.......The mess on the inside of your truck would be too hard to scrub out.

A nightly sting operation in every motel parking lot would also stop the thieves but that'll never happen 'till people stop coming to Revy and the tourist dollar dries up.

Totally agree mb1.

Our justice system is a complete joke........seen it first hand where a guy would do whatever (steal a vehicle, rape an old lady, murder somebody, kidnap somebody, breach their probation which they are on because they breached 6 previous probations, etc) and only serve a night in jail when they are arrested.

What these guys need is to open the trailer door and find themselves looking straight into the muzzle of a 12gauge, then taken into the trailer they were attempting to steal and have the chit beat out of them for days on end...............then take them out into the back 40, strip 'em down and leave them out there to fend for themselves, maybe even give them a couple cuts to leave a blood trail for a pack of wolves to devour them.

And if they do serve time, they eat better than half society who is not in jail, have free internet and programming for whatever they want. And most won't even serve their entire sentence.

Our justice system is a joke. I fully believe that if joe citizen was armed like others in certain parts of north america to the south of canada, this problem wouldn't be so big.

Thats my rant:mad:

seen it first hand eh..... friends of your's or just watching tv????

so you think the 6 mounties that patrol from Revy to Sicamous/golden should sit out front of the hotel to protect your sleds??? They aren't dealing with the drunken sledders in the bar, or the drunken wife beaters are they???

no society is perfect dude

does alot of good to shoot someone and go to jail for a sled that can be replaced with insurance.... your wife and kids will love having a convict in the family.
don't come here, your loss not ours

You're right...I think all Americans should stop heading North to sled. I'll report back when its safe!! :D :beer;
