600 HP?

Im looking at snowchecking an extra sled as a backup for the turbo/trail rides/let the girl come along, and trying to decide between a 6 or 8. I thought i remembered seeing somewhere that the 6 made about 135 hp and the 8 made something like 145...can anyone confirm or correct this?

polaris doesn't post hp anymore. 135 sounds close but a little high, 145 sounds a little low. and of course it depends on who you talk to and which dyno, which day they are ran. i do know the 600s are strong runners and just flat work. will pretty much go where the 800 will, except when it gets really deep and won't put the high mark on the hill.

The more important number is the weight... Almost identical within 5 lbs. For an extra $800 I would just buy the 800 and have a sled you will enjoy riding as a back up as well because the 600 does not feel any lighter... I rode the 600 and it was fun but harder to take places than the 800. Power = forgiveness = less stucks and less work.

I believe the sea-level corrected HP for the 600rmk is just about 129.

I think the the 800 was about 149.

I don't remember where I saw that, or I'd post it.

but in the trees you notice the difference in crank rotation. sounds kinda silly i know, but the 600s are a little easier to rip through the tight trees.

I've actually heard that from a few people and the physics made sense (the way it was explained to me at least). I'm not so worried about the high mark with it. If I'm high marking ill just take the turbo. As long as it could keep up and get in to the same places we play. I got a buddy with a nytro that does...are they about comparable for power to weight?

Ive heard great things about the 600 in the pro chassis. In my opinion, the 800 is more sled then 80% of the riders know what to do with. And im assuming, unless your girlfriend is totally bad *** , that the 600 will take her more places then she is willing or capable. The 600 is a much more reliable motor and so will give you less headaches. Im a big fan of learning how to ride and using some skill to get where youd like rather then spending big money for big horsepower to do the same thing.

If you go with a 800 you will have 2 sleds that are basically the same. So should you need a part for one you can rob peter to pay paul..

After seeing AKer's 600 go id say the difference really isnt that much for tight technical stuff.

And Logan is well known for having to do this... :face-icon-small-dis

Like said, the little 6 is pretty amazing. Until it gets steep and deep, or you are a heavy guy.

uh yeah, the 600 pro should pretty much destroy a nitro as far as handling in the trees. if you are a capable riding you will be able to get a 600 pretty much everywhere an 800 goes. you just might not go straight up the first time or always have the first tracks over the top. but..., go with a carl's 660 setup and would would spank a lot of 800. the 660 is every impressive and the biggest over achiever i've been around. plus the 600/660 is definitely more bullet proof than the 800.

I have both and for whatever reason the 600 handles better/easier than than the 800. As far as power, the 800 has more grunt like it should, but that being said the 600 is impressive and you can easily forget you are riding a 600, it's that impressive.

I'd go 600 and put the extra 800$ towards a big bore. 600s you can ride forever. So when the warrenty expires on your 800 and you upgrade she can keep on riding the 600 and then just big bore it.

Buy the 600 1300 miles only had to replace one pipe sensor. You won't regret it.

My daughter rides a 12 600 RMK and she loves it. We like playing in the trees and she gets around just fine with it. She is 110 lbs and can get that sled to do pretty much anything she wants. That sled is still a lot of fun for a 240 lbs guy like myself it handles great just don't expect too much out of it on the really deep stuff!

My wife has a 600, i've ridden it quite a bit and its a blast to ride, I think it turns better than the 800, low end power really close then the 800 has of course lots more up top. If ur into climbing i'd go 800 cause although the 600 does it very good, its basicly pin the throttle and in the steep and deep keep a close eye and be ready to turn out if need be, very fun sled and ZERO issues with it so far. I do think it is for sure a much better motor for pull and go not worry about it at all use....imho

I am a lowly flatlander but I have owned my D8 for 4 seasons now and I am snowchecking the 600pro r. For our tight twisty trials Im thinking it will be a blast. The rare top end runs we can make our friends 2011 600 rush doesnt drop off till around 70mph. The new motor config has been getting rave reviews. I think for me it will be fine. Kinda scary thinking about giving up 20-25 Hsp but I like the snappy 6 compared to the grunty 8. If that makes sense...

I am going to get a couple of them myself. If it isn't enough I will big bore it. I think they will be a blast. Can't wait till next year.
