6 YO Bedwetting

alright here is the deal girlfriends son turned 6 in may and going into first grade this fall still wets the bed every night. we had him in pull ups did a test and offered to him a video game if he could go 10 days without peeing bed. well he did that and after that he pretty much pees the bed 99% of the time last effort we took was taking pull ups away putting him in underwear and setting an alarm at night. well that worked for 3 days then he started wetting again so we set 3 alarms and he still wets bed out of ideas. and yes already cut him out of drinks after about 6 any ideas would help

Have you talked to Dr? A friend of ours had the same issue with their son. It's been a while, but I believe Doc said until age X there wasn't anything medically they could do, but try these things. On his birthday they brought him in a for a follow up and I think he was put on some type of meds. That was the end of the issue.

back to the pull ups and tell him he must wear them until he stops... plain and simple... he'll get the message first time he asks to spend the night with a friend and you force him to wear pullups for it... he'll get embarrassed and try to get over it... he just needs the right motivation

Dude,

Take him to the Dr. and have him checked out for physical problems. The Doc might suggest some other things if there isn't anything wrong. My son's Mom died when he was 9. The kid pee'd the bed almost every night for a year from that traumatic event. I never made a big deal out of it and never tried to embarass him. He grew out of it on his own. He's now almost 18 and has the best looking girlfriend in High School, works his azz off at his job, and can outride his old man on his SXR dropped and rolled 156" Yamaha mod that we built together.

Just try not to razz him.

well my question is this i dont think its medical for the reason that he made it 10 days in a row to get a video game so like bonz said i dont think he has the motivation to stop yet? 10 days in a row cant be luck cause if it was he would periodically not pee bed now?

theres a condition associated with bed wetting caused by the spine and nervous system, actually chiropractors can really help with this situation, you may wanna consult one and see.

:beer;:) funny lol

yep, chiropractor can help with certian bedwetting conditions, you may also want him to do this exercise- while he is urinating during the day have him do alot of stopping and starting while he is going. Otherwise at 6 it's pretty common to still be wetting the bed even if he did stop for 10 days.

Maybe he's traumatized at the thought of you bangin' his mom.

:face-icon-small-win

Now that is Funny Chit Larry,Serious though Hesse my Boy is 8 with the same problem and was a PreMee which i thought may have been a issue.Took him to the Dr and he explained my kid does not drink enough water therefore he tries holding it till he explodes and the walls of his bladder have become lined. The Dr told us he should drink water every hour and make him piss every hour on the hour so his baldder gets stretched and functioning proper. So far pretty good results. And no Larry his Mom's no gettin it enough:mad:

My son had they same issues. I took him to the Dr they have a nose spray that helps with the kidneys, he was on that for a year and then was done, with wetting the bed and the nose spray. I could find out more info if you are interested. Don't get mad at him, it is very common the dr said until the age of 8 sometimes a bit longer!!! I tried the alarm, cutting out the drinks.....did not work.

And the winner is ....... bonz
This is something I sure wouldn't be bugging (traumatizing) the kid about.... and risk other issues. When he's ready to quit, he's ready to quit.

yep, chiropractor can help with certian bedwetting conditions

Is that when they get out there crystal ball and magnetic blanket? I would put more trust with an actual medical doctor.....

chiropractic has a place in the sports injury and physical therapy area, but most of these idiots that step outside those limited areas of treatment are nothing more than QUACKS!

You'd be better off setting your money on fire than giving it to a chiropractor to solve bed wetting in your son..... you'd get the same result.....money gone and son still wetting the bed

Its very common for kids to wet the bed till they are older. My oldest daughter did, and was really traumatized by the fact that she did, and had to wear pull ups till she was like, 10 or so. Then, we went to the doc, and he gave her some pills to take before bed. Worked like a charm. Almost seemed to program her body to not do it any more. SUre was good for her to stop. She sleeps super heavy, and I think that was the problem.

I had the same problem, I sleep really heavy, almost like I'm dead. Some have said you have to motivate them to not wet their bed, I don't see how that would help when you don't know that you're even doing it until you wake up the next morning.

Glad someone else called out the vodoo dr.....

6yo is still just learning what his body wants, do the pullup thing and time will take care of it. When he starts getting into the 8-10 age then start looking at medical solutions, until then it's learning and training of the system. Best of luck, being a parent is a challenge yet so rewarding.
