3" Track for the Pro

Well Kevan now you follow me around on the threads. Are you trying to convince yourself or who. Maybe you just want to TRY to belittle me to make what your friend "who is a good friend and he always runs 7 tooth and 3" tracks" statements correct and mine wrong.
"I had this very same argument with trackscanada back in december." It wasn't considered an argument from my side. You are the one who made insulting remarks to me, nothing negative came from me !!!!!!!

You are WRONG as I've sold X3 tracks. I personally don't like them and tell people that up front, but I have sold them. I didn't know you personally had seen my invoice books !!!
"I could care less if my paddles go right to the outside edge of the track (like the cut down versions) " So this makes you right and people who want a 15" wide track wrong???
"There is very little, if any, difference in snow evacuation/track clearance between stock drivers/stock track and 7 tooth drivers/3" track." How did you MEASURE this???
I'm no expert just a fellow sledder who in last 10 years has sold thousand and thousands of tracks.

Curtis,

Please don't let your ego get the best of you...I wouldn't "follow" you anywhere. I always look at threads that refer to mods which I have done, and I found it interesting that you decided to preach your wisdom to the members of Snowest. So, I responded (as there appear to be many fellow sledders on here that are of the same opinion as me).

All of what I put in my original post, regarding you "NOT" selling the X3 track, were words that came out of your mouth during the conversation that I had with you at your home/office. So, if this isn't true, why would you BS me...were you hurt that I didn't purchase from you, so you wanted to make me feel poorly about my buying decision? Quite honestly, I would of purchased all my parts from you. But, last spring, you basically told me I was stupid for wanting to do the 3" X3 and 7 tooth drivers and that the only "proper" way to do it (at that time) would be to remove the belt drive, install a D&R chaincase, 8 tooth drivers and a cut down 3" CE. Right there you shot yourself in the foot as far as my track and driver sale. And, after this, you will never see a nickel of my hard earned money.

I do my research before making a buying decision, and the 7 tooth/3" X3 has way more real world PRO's than CON's, so I don't feel the need to justify anything (especially to you). I did all the proper research to justify my decision long before the money left my wallet.

Curtis - just because you have done a lot of something or done it for a long time, doesn't mean you are doing it right!! IMO, your quantity of sales are based on your pricing and not necessarily your knowledge. Every time I have talked to you you brag about how you are under cutting everyone on price and only make $50/ track. IMO that is poor business sense. You are messing up the market for the entire industry.

When you decide to put down your wiener roasting stick at the cabin and come for a ride, maybe you'll get a chance to see how well this combination works!!

(PS: If you are going to accuse me of belittlement...I will rise to the occasion)

Kevan:
I honestly have mistaken you from what you have shown in your reply's. (every reply has been negative and reminds me of an age group MUCH younger than your years) NEVER EVER ONCE CALLED YOU STUPID !! And you know it !!!!!
I really don't care about your opinion or what you think of me or my business or where you buy!!!! You don't get to be # 1 in western Canada worrying about what people say. Your words are the same as all the competition says. I have no intension in playing the "PRICE FIXING GAME" that suppliers and competitors play. I give the best deals to customers that I'M HAPPY with for profit !!!! You are one of very few. We have "THOUSANDS" of happy customers !!!

When you needed an axle kit this season in a hurray, you sure forgot "Right there you shot yourself in the foot as far as my track and driver sale." You say you would never buy from me but you rushed right over to buy it. But that's different RIGHT !!

Your are the one who KEEPS BRING UP 3" track and 7 tooth drivers. I'm happy that you are happy with your buying decision. Your making me out that I'm the bad "boggey man" Do you really think you are going to convince anyone else???
You're are bending the truth here:"NOT" selling the X3 track, were words that came out of your mouth during the conversation that I had with you"
My WORDS WERE: " I DON'T BELIEVE / LIKE SELLING 3" tracks with 7 tooth drivers" Big difference, but then no sensationalism in that is there??
Kevan after this you have shown your true colours and you would be one of the last people I would ever ride with.
Your wife on the other hand, both Marilyn and I find to be a very nice person and have always enjoyed her company.
Safe sledding.

As the Snow West....

C'mon guys....neither of you are helping people decide on the best track (not to mention the best mod) for the Pro-Ride RMK.

Contemplating doing this to my 13' standard. 7t drivers, chaincase mod, anti-stab, TKI belt drive. Am I on the right track?

I went out today with mine. My first real ride with it.

Deep snow conditions. Breaking in a fresh motor, so it's still tight.

Traction is unreal. It's not as zippy on the trail...but that's NOT what it's for.

On groomed trail water temps climb up into the mid 140s pretty easily when others are running in the 120s. I drag my foot for a sec and it drops back into the 130s.

It's very forgiving when losing momentum on a hill. Just pin it, wiggle a little and it tractors right back up.

It does take a bit to get used to. Doesn't handle QUITE as easily as the 5.1 Polaris track...but it can hook a hard powder turn WAY better than the stocker. WAY better.

I LOVE it so far.

Yes, do it. do it, do it.

Can't remember what movie that is from?

Do it, do it, do it....

Keep us posted. I'm really thinking of this next year but the only bad I heard was not as good for tight stuff as it tends to hook and propel you straight instead of turning... I haven't seen one in action though.

A lot of going back and forth on this topic.

So I have a 13 Pro RMK. What do I need to install the X3 on my sled with proper clearances and to have minimal problems?

Not if you're an aggressive rider. My sled still exactly the way it did with the stock track it just pulls out of the sticky situations a lot better. Tighter more ridiculous lines is all I've seen. Completely happy with mine.

Well you have two "easy"options.

#1
Buy/install the 7 tooth center driver with 3" pitch from avid.

Buy/install the camoplast 9220MCP

#2
Buy/install 7 tooth 3"pitch power claw style drivers from avid or wahl bros. In this case I would go with avid drivers.

Buy/install the camoplast 9220M

Cut rails down to fit new drivers and install anti stab rail kit

Either of these two options work. #2 might be a bit cheaper than #1 but you have to cut your rails.

Also I noticed when my x3 came in I was reading the warranty of the track and it states that all tracks have a 2 year warranty from defects. But any ported tracks by camoplast (#1) only have a one year warranty from date of first shipment.

Just something to keep in mind.

Also recommend new clutching set-up. Springs, weights, and helix. Carls has a nice kit they made up for the X3.

There really is a lot more ways to go about it but these are just the easy options with the belt drive pros. And I'm jealous because I wish it would have been that easy for me.

Good luck!

Curtis,

The issue I have with you arose when I came to pick up the offset axle/8" wheel kit. Once you found out what I was doing...You made it a point to educate me that the 7 tooth/ 3" X3 is a BAD choice and that I would most likely experience problems. I didn't ask, nor did I want your opinion. You had already made tour views clear the previous spring. You also told me that professional shops don't do that combination...So I made a phone call to one that you made reference to...unfortunately your claims were wrong. So, I brought it to your attention in an email. There are many shops that do this mod...Including Carl's

As stated in a previous post "after this, you will never see a nickel of my hard earned money". I don't have any personal vendetta against you or your business...I will just choose not to purchase from you. But, if I saw you stuck on the mountain...I would still come and help you out. Business is business and personal is personal...and some of us can separate the two!

It is obvious that you don't like being called out, as you always refer to the fact of how many years you have been doing this and how many thousands of customers have and how many thousands of tracks you have sold. NOT ONCE have I heard you make reference to any of your own personal experiences with with this track/driver combination and it's failure...so it seems like your arguments are all based on hearsay. You show complete disregard for anyone else's knowledge or experience on the topic...including people you don't even know...just because they don't sell tracks for a living.

Now back to topic:
The 3" X3/7 tooth driver combination...IMO...is the best deep snow mod that you can do to these sleds without having to get crazy with D&R's etc. The gear down you get from dropping to the 7 tooth really helps these sleds too. This is based on my experience with this set up...not what people tell me:)

P.S Curtis, I am DONE arguing with you on this topic...if you want to chat...you have my number!!

Yes 3" tracks are easy to fall in love with and enjoy. Question for you: "..only problem I have had is ice build up on the driveshaft which caused some rubbing..." Is this running the new 3 driver avid set up?

TIA

Its the 7 tooth driver installed by Carls Cycle…….forgive me but I'm not sure what the 3 driver avid set up is?

I have the Carl's setup 162" x3. No anti stab kit needed (I did not want to deal with that). I have their clutching setup as well. It pulls 8300+ in deep snow on climbs. I think that the Carl's clutch bearing (Secret Weapon) works incredibly well too. They instaled it for me when they replaced the track. It shifts and backshifts much better than it did before. I believe that it is an automotive part. Ask Chris at Carl's about it. Cheap part and easy install. Even if you have to replace it periodically, it is worth it.

I can't speak for Carls but my understanding it is a option Carls offers. (very good business to deal with by the way) I read the 3 driver set up (Avid very good drivers) is advertised not to ice up. That's only reason I asked.
Thanks.

Mis information

Well you have two "easy"options.
#2
Buy/install 7 tooth 3"pitch power claw style drivers from avid or wahl bros. In this case I would go with avid drivers.
Wahl Bros. DO NOT have a driver as of today for the 13 & 14 Pro driveshafts.
Also I noticed when my x3 came in I was reading the warranty of the track and it states that all tracks have a 2 year warranty from defects. But any ported tracks by camoplast (#1) only have a one year warranty from date of first shipment.
According to my Camoplast warranty contact the 1 year warranty is ONLY ON CAMOPLAST PROCESSED PORTING. NOT anyone elses porting.
There really is a lot more ways to go about it but these are just the easy options with the belt drive pros. And I'm jealous because I wish it would have been that easy for me. Good luck!

Once you found out what I was doing...You made it a point to educate me that the 7 tooth/ 3" X3 is a BAD choice and that I would most likely experience problems. So because I told you of problems lots of other guys have had that's what you took offence to? And I never once said you made a BAD choice (you can sure twist things around) I didn't ask, nor did I want your opinion. Feeling is mutual !!! You had already made tour views clear the previous spring. I still know of many that won't !!!

NOT ONCE have I heard you make reference to any of your own personal experiences with with this track/driver combination and it's failure...so it seems like your arguments are all based on hearsay. Why would I go to the work of installing something I KNOW fails. I did a drop and roll on my 07 Dragon with 8 tooth drivers and a 162x3 with not paddle issues !!!That just doesn't make any sense !! You show complete disregard for anyone else's knowledge or experience on the topic...Lets see their numbers and data to back it up !!![/COLOR] including people you don't even know...just because they don't sell tracks for a living.

MR: HRT
You are the only one referring to arguing.
You want to get back to topic how about answering some very simple basic questions! You made the statement "There is very little, if any, difference in snow evacuation/track clearance between stock drivers/stock track and 7 tooth drivers/3" track."
I asked: How did you MEASURE this??? Lets deal with FACTS !!
Where does all the air concussion and snow go?? With extremely small clearance between track and tunnel.
Why are guys dropping 9 to 21 mph track speed?
Your serve.

As the Snow West....

C'mon guys....neither of you are helping people decide on the best track (not to mention the best mod) for the Pro-Ride RMK.

I couldn't agree more Dave...........

However, from the "glass is half full" perspective it certainly gives us some insight as to the type people we may be dealing with should we be in the market for a track. :face-icon-small-dis

You prefer misinformation instead of proven facts? I could just sit back and let people spend their money and that there are no issues with the poor mans turbo setup. I'm about "trouble free" sledding. You think it's better to buy from the "TYPE OF POEPLE" who don't fully disclose ALL information, Pros and Cons?
