2018 SkiDoo Summit X "SNOWCHECKED" (Octane Blue & Manta Green) !

My indications are how well do they survive in the "fleet" business's.... those are the ones I'll be polling this summer... valid or tempest... hmmm... we'll see.

So my theory was correct. They knew exactly how many sleds had broken bulkheads vs how many sleds they sold and the ratio was small. Reported only 60 broken bulkheads for 2017 and I assume they made about 2,000 to 3,000 850s (maybe more maybe less) I am not sure but it seemed like more than 60 as it was everywhere on the web.

To show what a great company they are they addressed the pseudo-"issue" anyways.

They also addressed the belt temp issue
1.) New belts for 2018
2.) New design on the fixed sheave of the primary, acting as a fan

Bulkhead has been addressed (even though not necessary) with:

1.) Added material where needed
2.) Added bracing on the inside (that 2017 owners will be able to purchase this added bracing if they feel the need)

If it was only "60".... then your 3 sleds account for 5% of total failed units.

My question is with the fan on the clutch... why is it making that much heat in the first place?
The fan seems like symptom management rather than cause solutions.

Again...we'll see on the production units next fall.

Looks like a nice line up from BRP for 18 !

Christopher, do you know if skidoo asked for pics for your broken S and E modules? My buddy broke his and bought the parts to fix himself. A couple weeks later skidoo called asking his dealer to send as many detailed pics of the broken parts as possible.

I'm also pretty sure skidoo sold way more than 2,000-3,000 850's. Closer to 10,000

Well then haha it is more clear the bulkhead issue was blown up if that is the case. My figure was only for mountain sleds I must add

Be Still My Beating Heart.
This sled is drop dead Gorgeous!

No hand wringing on this one for me at all.

I have ABSOLUTELY LOVED my 3 2017 Summits and had a total blast riding them this season. But I have come up against a need for a 4th sled over and over and over again.

Transitioning from 5 Yamahas to 3 Ski-Doos made for one HELL of a season of new learning. I damn near had to learn how to ride all over again. Everything was SO different on the SkiDoos compared to my Yamahas. I find myself constantly trying to UNlearn many of the odd habbits that worked to make the Yamahas perform, that are just NOT NEEDED when riding these Doos...

But more than anything else, I FELT the loss of the extra sleds. Gotta have that spare sled as a backup or for friends/guests. So all this year I have been patiently waiting right along with everyone else to see what SkiDoo would release for 2018. Well, BLUE just happens to be my favorite color, and I can see all kinds of MOD possibilities with this sled. Hopefully the Sled Gods will smile on us with a fairly EARLY DELIVERY so there will be plenty of time to work on customization of this bad boy over the Fall before the first snowflake hits the ground!

2017 has been great, and there is still another good 2 months of riding left to enjoy if the weather cooperates! Heck, maybe 3 months if I get LUCKY!!:face-icon-small-hap

So.
WHO ELSE will be taking the plunge and SNOWCHECKING one of these bad boys??

Right on Christopher!!!! Beautiful looking sled!

Is the geometry the same on the 2.5" track vs the 3" track?

In other words, if you have a 2.5", can a 3" track be installed?

60 for 2017... So in 1.5 months 60 broke. That phrasing does not account for those broke in December or November which is probably a significant number since things tend to break more in lower snow conditions(whether the fault of skidoo or owner). All I would ask Christopher is how many bulkheads have you broken on the trails before you bought these sleds? And how likely is it you did something deserving of a broken bulkhead on all 3 of your new sleds?

Regardless sounds like Skidoo addressed it quickly so good on them for making the quick adjustments and making brace kits available so readily.

little more info on the Q&A video on ski-doo facebook page, but only the big dogs got to say anything they did not let any of the expert riders comment about the issues. pretty sneaky i thought

I know the dealer sent details about that sled to corporate upon their request.
But when I spoke with them they did NOT ask me for photos.
Though it is entirely possible they asked the dealer for them.

Just to be clear.
Only ONE of my three sleds suffered broken bulkheads.

The other two suffered broken chain cases from multiple impacts on the bottom of the chain case.

Ahh, well that is very different then.
Also thanks for the heads up on the 2017 model year versus calendar year- that is a big difference.

The link you provided has been taken down? Well, if this part about the bulkhead is true that is great news! The brittle bulkhead really bothers me and i feel that 60 broken is WAY too many. I have said this before, but even if you whack a rock and its clearly your fault, the bulkhead should not be the weak point....period.

I am going to snow check one of these sleds and then when it arrives at the dealer in the fall I am going to verify with my own eyes that bulkhead was indeed updated before i take the sled home, if not i'll walk away from it. i hope you are reading this ski-doo!!
