2017 F250 Superduty

In 2007, I had the chance to choose between the 2007 LBZ Duramax (pre-08 EPA diesel regs), and the 2008 LMM Duramax (first year DPF). Chose the 2007 LBZ. Pretty flawless 150k miles, and the LBZ has continued to be a highly sought after Dmax. I paid 39k cash, employee program, for a loaded LT, and it was well spent.

Two riding friends who bought the LMM were not as lucky, with many first year issues, causing downtime, tho repairs covered under warranty. Just didn't know when they would start on fire until they got them deleted and reprogrammed. I got lucky, but sometimes the proven designs do work. Another bud now has a 14 PS 6.7 pretty loaded bought new for 58k, and it has been a great truck for him, business and personal. Just saying that value and proven reliability in a truck goes a long way.

I think the first year of anything new is an interesting thing to consider. When was the last time a company really knocked a first run vehicle out of the park? Always seems like a good idea to buy the 2nd year and let others work out the bugs of the first year.

Fair statement.
But..
When was the last time Ford released a new F250 that was a Dud?

They have SO MUCH RIDING on the F150 and F250 that they absolutely can not tolerate a failed release. That historical pressure to make sure the new version is "right" is hugely to the advantage of the new buyer.

My last 2 pickups have been holdovers, both bought in the fall with Ford kicking in big discounts to clear inventory.

Told my local dealer what I wanted, and he searched other dealers and found me ones that worked.

Seems like September is when they get aggressive with factory discounts.

As far as first year,
The cab is the same as the f150,(minus creature features) engine is essentially the same as last years diesel, frame is all new (how many frame recalls have there been?) Brakes are new.
Electronics are the biggest change and most likely to be recalled.

GS6

Who in their right mind spends that kind of money on monthly car payments?

This guy! hahaha
It's a business write off, and my office. Honestly wish I still had the Ram Limited. Wayyyy nicer interior/features. Like TONS better than this 16 Laramie. Electrical issues soured me on that unit tho. Gave a Ford a try. Nice enough, real good power, but interior materials are lacking hard for this price point.

I'd consider a '17 and newer Ford, but in a Platinum level.

Will be interesting to see what Ford has in store for the engine for 2017.
So far they have been pretty tight lipped on final specs.

That's one thing I have been supremely impressed with this '16 is the power train. Has all the power my '11 Ram HO with a 50hp tune on had. Real nice power/mpg. Just the creature comforts I find lacking. Not end of world though when it's in my driveway and NOT the dealers workshop lol.

One other thing, you had mentioned a few pages back, was difference between 2050/350. Here in BC anyways, a 250 is not a "work" vehicle, and subject to an additional "luxury tax", vs the 350. Get a more capable vehicle, and less $$ to boot!

I was thinking this was an all new truck from the ground up. Guess I was wrong. I would agree that I don't ever remember frame issues with any of the new trucks. Less chance of issue with that many borrowed or returning parts.

Is it a fair comparison to pit the Ram Limited against a Ford Lariet??

I think more than a couple of 6.0 PS buyers in 2003 would have something to say. Many 7.3 owners bought the hype and the regrets. That Navistar motor cost them tens of millions in recalls, SBs, and buybacks (I think it set the record for first year buybacks, and still has it).

6.4 in 2008 was a partial recovery, the 6.7 in 2011 got them back in the game.

your 11 cummins was deleted and tuned, and the 16 power stroke has as much power? i have a 12 cummins that i was ready to drive off a cliff until i deleted/tuned it. i love it now. do the newer power strokes that have much power stock? (im talking pulling power, not race your buddy down the street power)

Watch the the ike gauntlet challenge.
Its a towing test. The chevy and ram they hold the accelerator pedal to the floor the whole test(can't reach the speed limit), the ford cannot be floored because it breaks the speed limit.
Chevy and ford get 3mpg during the test, i think the ram was 3.9mpg.
