2015 Motor Speculation

The east flat landers are chomping at the bit for a damn 4 stroke. Short track, one behind the other, speed limits.... might as well just stay in my truck!

Im hoping new motor. Then ill ride my 14 this year and next and all the bugs will be kinked out for 16 or if another fiasco like the 900 time to jump ship.

Maybe no new chassis but some updates like strengthened tunnel like cat did with the rolled stiffeners. New plastic like doo did with the xp to the xm.

I'm going to predict small refinements to chassis and 175 hp optimax dual direct injection engine for their anniversary! They need to meet the EPA standards for 2016. And this engine is the future of two stroke technology. Perfect match to a great mountain sled. Other manufactures would be scrambling to catch up

Easy on the flatlander comment I do not want a four stroke unless it weighs less than my assault and still produces good power. I would only consider a 4 stroke if it were 150+ HP and weighed less than 475 lbs.

Am I back in the Yamaha forum?

We are riding the best stock mountain sled ever, Its oct-2013 and you guys are talking about 2015 sleds? REALLY?

15s will be released and ridden on snow by the public within 5 months, not all that far away..

More small chassis refinements and a reliable 160hp engine would make me happy, I think a X3 track would be a nice snow check option.

It's not really a surprise that people are talking about 2015 already . This happens every year. In march people will start talking on whether they should Snowcheck a 2015 or wait for 2016 then people will speculate about what the 2016 will have! Just comes with all of us being bored waiting for snow!!

That and the following threads:
What oil should I use
What skis are the best
Where can I get DC power
What track fits
Klim and there good and bad warranty
What is the best tunnel bag
What turbo is best
Cat vs polaris vs Ski doo
Will the glue hold
And posts will fly when something goes wrong (ie last year drive shafts)
La la la la la la la la :blah::blah::blah::blah:

Let is snow for petes sake.:focus:

You forgot my favorite:
Which can is the best.

One at the Lodge furthest away from the Bar...

A couple months ago I saw an investigation on TV (Mythbusters I think) that the "can" closest to the door is statistically the cleanest because everyone skips it their quest for privacy.

Hmmmmm, seems like I knew which can was the best all along. :face-icon-small-blu

That's good to know! Now it will become the dirtiest. :face-icon-small-hap

Since cat will have their own motors for 2015, which will likely deliver 165HP+, and Polaris already has the weakest motor (HP), and they have had many years notice that cat would have a new motor in 2015, I'm thinking we might see something new from Poo in the motor department for 2015.

Pure speculation, but it seems like a reasonable guess.

Nobody makes a stock 165/163/159/over 146hp 800 twin per the OEM's own measurements.

http://www.epa.gov/otaq/certdata.htm#snowsi

Click on 2013 Snowmobile and go to the second page of the spreadsheet.
kW to HP: multiply by 1.341022

Let the dyno member length comparison begin!! :argue:

I'm goin' with wjl's prediction.

Where'd the SnoTel Ticker data go?

I'm hoping for 375 lb 138.5 hp sled.

Unless the snow changes it physical properties or Poo has held an extra card in it's hand from the original design team in 2010, I'm, keeping my 2013 and taking a few lbs off it, myself and my gear every year.

Sorry Poo but you did too good a job to win me over. You have your work cut out for you to make a BETTER mountain sled. I had the most fun in decades just riding your Pro stock. Never did it limit my abilities.
After more than 2 decades of a new sled every season, you showed me how wrong it was lol.

It's snowing for the next few days and staying. Next weekend the season starts.

I don't have Excel to open the file can someone post what he is referring to?

Doo seemed pretty willing to advertise the "163" number(Dyno done by someone else). :face-icon-small-ton But you are right, none of the manufacturers have advertised their own validated HP number.

Less weight is a benefit, but my own experience tells me that HP gains are more valuable than weight loss in real world performance. (Somehow I think people will find that controversial)

I weigh about 175, my friend weighs 225. Same riding ability, riding the same sled, I climb 2-3 sled lengths higher. The same year/track sled (same day/snow) with a big bore, he climbs 5-6 lengths further than me on the stock sled.

I think less weight is a bigger benefit to maneuverability than climbing
performance.

Me, 175 lbs + sled weight 425, Divided by 145 HP = 4.14 lbs per HP

Jack, 225 lbs + sled 425 = 4.48 lbs Per HP

So, with weight loss of 50 lbs your efficiency improves .30 lbs per HP, which is about equivalent to 2 sled lengths.

Jack + sled = 650 lbs riding big bore (165-170 HP). 3.94-3.82 lbs per HP, which is about .30 difference from me on the stock sled, yet he climbs 5-6 lengths higher than me.

Why I think HP matters more than weight loss is track speed, the increased track speed lifts the sled up out of the snow delivering less drag and more momentum.
