2015 GM HD trucks out in early 14?

Looks like the DEF tank is still about two tacos off the ground....

They should be really close. Some are on the ground and en route as I type this.

I believe extended cabs will be first since there was zero extended cabs produced in 2014 and none at the end of 2013.

Regular cabs next and crew last. Crews should be here March beginning of April.

I agree, that is a terrible location they have that in.

I too think they should have moved it. I hardly even notice it on my truck, but maybe that's because it is black. It certainly wouldn't be something that would stop me from buying the truck.

I have an 11 Silverado. The low hanging DEF tank has not caused me any problems so far. It is off road often pulling a 14000 lb hydroseeder on reclamation jobs. I like the fact that on my shortbed I still have a 35 gallon tank. Top that Ford and Dodge. The Silverado brakes also last two to three times longer than theirs. I have a couple 07 Classics with over 100000 miles still on original brakes. Only repairs so far are transmission cooling lines. Also the Silverado does not need a load leveling hitch to bumper pull 14000 lbs.

I also have a 2011. I see a lot of complaints about the DEF tank but haven't seen/heard of anyone left stranded due to the tank being punctured/dropped from the frame from hitting anything off-road.
I agree it looks like crap, but it's not like there are a bunch of trucks towed to dealerships each weekend from what I have seen/read.

Flame away.

Looking to buy new

Hey everyone

Looking for some info/opion/advice. I been doing alot of reading and forum searching, but figured id ask u guys.

I currnetly got offered a pretty decent price for my curren
t truck 2003 2500hd quad cab with the 6.0l. If they deal goes thru i will be needing to replace it. I do knw i want to buy new, as this truck i will be keeping for my guess would be next 7-10 years. I just dont know what to go with, diesel or gas?

Its primary use will be pulling skid steer/camper/boat during the summer and sled trailer during the winter (enclosed or open 4 place) along with some possible road trips or random drives. My guess would be less then 8k miles a year. (Thats what i averaged with my last truck)

Im considering a diesel simply for the pulling, and better gas mileage. But honestly i dont know chit about them. Never owned one b4. But considering buying one.

Also with it not being driven as much, is it harder on one or the other to go 2 weeks or so.. without being started or moved?

I have been trying to do some research on chevy forums for the diesel and the gas truck and it seems there are mixed reviews and im not really finding answers

Does the $$$ that is saved for fuel economy on a diesel out way the money spend for a gas truck? I know maintence on a diesel is higher, but you dont have to do it as often. Also looking in the long run, diesel hold there value alot better also.

Im just trying to figure out what the best bang for my buck gonna be. Would hate to spend the extra money on a diesel and wish i wouldnt have or buy the gas truck and wish i had a diesel.

Thanks guys!

Unless you are pulling around a 10k lb trailer all year it is really tough to show any economic advantage to owning a diesel right now. Even when I bought my first one in 2002 and diesel was cheaper than unleaded the math was borderline for the situation you are describing (similar to how I use my truck)

If you are in it for the long term - you need to also look at what you may want to do with it down the road. I prefer to "future proof" my purchases where it makes some sense - that way I can look at toy haulers, big 5th wheels etc. and not have to worry about upgrading my truck.

Have you looked at that new Dodge 1/2 ton diesel? Sounds like it might be exactly what you need.

After owning both gassers and now my first diesel (14' Deleted Duramax), I can't say I would go back to a gas unless they came out with an ecoboost v8 with similar torque numbers to a diesel. The true power when towing anything over 3K weight is uncomparable. Yes they are more expensive initially, but they retain their value when you go to sell it also. So keep that in mind. And unloaded fuel mileage will be much better than a gasser and towing, expect 1-3mpg better. I personally would say try it and see what you think. These new diesels are very refined and nice to drive. And when lightly modded, they are crazy fast for such a big truck! I want to upgrade my 14' to a 15' though. That new interior is way nicer than mine.

I went from a 5.3 gmc to a 2012 duramax. The thought of going back to a gas truck hasn't crossed my mind once. It's my first diesel and I absolutely love it. They're so much more fun to drive! Go test drive the trucks and see for yourself. You'll love having the duramax under the hood instead of the gas motor

thanks guys for the replies!!!! good info and yes i will be test driving one for sure.

I really wish GM would bring back something like a DoD/VVT version of the Vortec 8100 .... Man I miss my old big block :face-icon-small-con

You can thank the Allison for the brakes lasting longer. :face-icon-small-hap

Nice info there. Just to clarify. The truck on your link is a extended cab. That is not the crew cab. I believe the extended cab are the first to be produced because they didn't make them at all for 2014 and cut them off at the end of 2013.

Here is a first drive of the 2015 GM (both) HD. They had a Ford and current Dodge to compare to:
