2013 RK Tek 858 working extremely well

Got out this last week for a couple of rides.. The last ride was in 3ft of fresh powder...

Had the 2013 Pro 858 out there and one or more of every other new and couple year old sleds on the hill with us.. Great day to be riding..

For 2013 we have changed most everything about the 858 kit to allow for more power ..

After a full season last year doing strictly R&D we were able to focus in on what this engine really requires to make power and stay reliable..

The 2013 cylinder changes allowed us to even take it to another level (thanks Polaris)

Anyway... The 858 big bore is very impressive..

We tested the he!! out of it in some of the best powder we have found in a long time..:bounce:

1-2 minute WOT pulls were the NORM with some pulls going over the 2 minute mark..:face-icon-small-sho

Overall, very happy with what this engine can produce..

Testing and development continues, as usual, but the current set up is very fun!

If in our area, come take a test ride .. See for yourself.

Any video? Any head to head comparisons? What's the 13 cylinder have that the 12 doesn't. Track speed numbers vs stock?

the 13 has thicker skirts which alllows us to change the porting even more in certain areas

The 13 also has a different (better) crank which produces better power.

Vids?? I will work on getting some.. but it is no contest with a stocker but neither is our drop in kit..

Kelsey,
You did my 858 in August or so this year on my 12' cylinders. Are the changes significant? I am waiting for snow to dial the turbo fueling, then I can attack the cluthching. I hope it rips.

The cylinder changes are not as important as the crank changes,.

The new crank, IMO, is the biggest player.

The fuel and ignition mapping has also been significantly altered.. Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing for us "MOD" guys..:face-icon-small-dis

Kelsey, how much snow you got up there where you are going? Are you going to cub river or where you riding at. Just wondering tony is still pretty bad.

Kelsey, we are still safe with your drop in kit on our 13s without a fuel controller correct?

Brad, beeen going to Wyoming to find the DEEP stuff.. Will be going again this week..
You are welcome to come along if you like...

Reports back, show that it may be a tad lean at low load high rpm situations.. We are working on clearing that up with a different head design.. But these reports are only at very high elevations and we know Polaris changed (greatly) their above 10K mapping for 2013 and we are not sure if this is true for the under 10K riding.

Kelsey, do u maybe think I should just run a boonie box on my drop in kit and stick with a proven head desgine that you already know, rather than runnin no box with a modded head desgine that might compromise hp, I'm just suggesting, I know nothing about manufacturing and designing a head, may be its a simple solution for u to change the head desgine.

Running a fuel control box on ANY fuel injected sled (STOCK or Modiied) is ALWAYS a good idea..

What seperates a GOOD running sled from a GREAT running sled is the state of "tune" (fueling, ignition etc.)
Doing nothing and using the STOCK "tune" (as delivered) will usually net you a GOOD running sled..

FINE tuning in your fueling with a fuel control box will get you a GREAT running sled.

I know which one I Prefer to ride!!

Do you have a preference on fuel control box's ? I am glad to see you are having good success with your kits .

So , from what I am reading you are saying to get the most out of your drop in piston/head kit you should be running a fuel box, do you offer a fuel box as a option with this kit , if so what box , do they come preset

He likes to use the boonie box, he has quick access to them as well if you need one shipped, that what I'm goin with when he ships my drop in kit, he also said leave the stock helix if your not gonna upgrade to the tied helix, and just install heavier weights.
Kelsey was testing again this weekend and would have more data for the 13s.

Not exactly... what I am saying is that A BONE STOCK sled would benefit froma fuel control box..

We prefer the Boondocker box... But The POwer Commander works well also

Snow is great and the cold weather allows for a true test of the engine.. As you can view in the videos, the engine never skips a beat and is leaned on fairly heavy
