2013 Pro getting new cylinders and pistons!

when i lost a cylinder skirt on my 11 and it took out the entire more i looked into upgrading to the 12 motor and it would have cost me about $500 more for everything. i wanted my sled back as fast as possible so i just stayed with the 11 injectors and wiring. who knows what it will take or what the SOP will be once the 13 stuff is out.

maybe cat and poo can share ideas on how to make a engine and a belt not break.

Yeah for sure they would always help each other.

Polaris could teach Doo how to make a lightweight sled that is fun to ride...
Doo could teach Poo how to make a mountainsled trail friendly..
Suzuki could teach both Poo n Doo how to make a supersolid 800 cc 2 stroke
with obsolete (stoneage) fuelinjection system that has the best power and can accept 925BB or turbo with no problems..
And they should all help each other not to put out products that could take another year of evaluation on snow before it hits the customers....:usa2:.

I am going to keep a look on our parts lookup for when they release the 2013 parts diagrams. then I will be able to check if any part numbers have changed.

Cylinder part numbers have changed every year since 2008. I'm not going to hold my breath on the '13.

Yes, but if the part number for the case changes along with a new cylinder part number, that would pretty well back up this rumor. If there is no change for the case, then it is doubtful that the skirts are thicker. Time will tell.

I don't necessarily agree that the upper cases will have to change to accept the new cylinders. People have repeatedly noted that there is too much clearance between the 2 pieces so if the cylinder skirts were just a touch thicker, the gap would be taken up. The gap is most likely the problem than the actual thickness of the skirt.

--Change in piston design would be the most meaningful change. Apparently the skirts on the Skidoo 800 are even thinner than Polaris.

True but the stroke is longer so not as much side loading as I understand it.

Have FUN!

--As noted in another thread, the Polaris engine has the best "rod ratio" between the three 800 motors and thicker cylinder skirts than Skidoo 800. Apparently actual piston design is the issue. Piston pin placement, weight, shape, and clearance seem to be OEM issues, not cylinders.

there's also a lot of debate in that thread...the thicker cylinder skirts will help to lower the chances of breaking. the upper case half as been modified to accommodate the thicker skirts. unfortunately the piston issues have not been addressed. it will be interesting to see what people find the piston to cylinder wall clearance to be next year. if i end up keeping the sled longer than the warranty lasts (i'm only go with the two year), assuming all other things are equal, i will probably go with an aftermarket piston. but two years is a long time and lots can change by then...

If Poo is changing the design due to failures and warranty, they will absolutely not promote it, and only openly admit it after production release, and not now. Maybe by Haydays time. Until then, it will be hear no, see no, speak no evil. They are not going to dis the 12's that are unsold with that design, including short tracks, around NA. Dealers would go even more nutz. Couldn't blame them, either.

You're right pv, my source wasn't sure about the pistons, only about the cylinders and machined case (I think maybe I assumed new pistons as my listening skills aren't so sharp when I get exciting news, LOL). I hope they do have new pistons, or at least tighter clearance. Time will tell!

Have FUN!

Good point.
Wouldn't it also be true if they did admit their is a problem that the trade in values on the 2011, and the 2012s would tank? Less trade-ins, less sales on the 2013.
Remember the 2005 Fusion? I do!:face-icon-small-fro

if you want the answers on design changes to the polaris engine you have to look in the dumpsters behind their engine facility...i did for a solid month
Guess what..no thrown out aluminum..
Conclusion..
the aluminum they took out of the upper case they added to the skirt of the pistons..
titt for tatt..so the rumours are infact...Fact
