2013 Pro getting new cylinders and pistons!

He mentioned something about the case being machined to make it work. And, BTW, the whole reason the topic came up is because I brought up your big bore kit. You'll be getting some business after the new changes which will make the motor a lot more friendly to BB's! :face-icon-small-hap Honestly I think that's a big reason why Polaris is doing it - they realize stock HP is not enough to satisfy the hardcore mtn riders and the current platform won't last for adding big mods like turbos or BB's so they're changing the platform. And as far as speculation... my source is valid and hasn't been wrong yet so, yeah, I would bet on it! Now for real speculation... my guess (and only a guess) is that this is all a prelude to 2014 when Polaris teams up with an aftermarket turbo or supercharger manufacturer like Yamaha has done, or even their own turbo like Cat. That is only my guess tho.

Cheers,

G

I really don't think their will be much but new graphics and colors for 2014. Say that all these changes really did take place in the 800 CFI for 2013, I highly doubt they would go making any big changes or mods for a motor that's only been running in a sled for one model year.

I'm sure the big change will come with the 2015's, and that's what all my polaris buddies and the guys at the dealer all are hoping too, because they all talk about the 900 and how awesome it was supposed to be and how big of a pain in the azz it turned out to be. They all want a motor that has as much refining as possible before it makes it into a sled.

I haven't been a polaris guy that long and regularly made fun of my buddy and his 900, and all the guys I knew that had trouble with their 800 dragons, but I have had lots of faith in polaris ever since what I call "The Great Migration" really got going around 2010. There were always more guys switching over, getting better service and having fewer and fewer problems with polaris than I had ever seen in my years of snowmobiling. I ordered a new 2011 rmk 800 and haven't had any problems, and don't personally know anyone who's had a problem with the piston skirts breaking off. This 800 works really well, and if they did do some changes to make it better, that's awesome, but with all the huge improvements the 2013 sleds got, I would guess they would take it easy and ride that success for a little while before they make any crazy changes. That would be the smart business move to make. They've done enough for 2013 that I don't see many new additions to their lineup as far as sleds or accessories go.

but that's all just my half-full opinion

maybe they're getting the case ready for more CCs ???

probably not but they've gotta be thinking engine next
that would put the cherry on the cake :face-icon-small-hap

Honestly I would be shocked if anyone did a factory two stroke turbo. Just too many issues.

I know it sounds hokey, and a bit of BS, but I have mentioned the 13 getting a new cylinder a couple of times in different threads and my "sources" are pretty solid. I didn't know any details before reading the above but was confident there would be some changes. Now what that means and how that will translate onto the snow none of will know until next year. BUT, initial reports are promising.

Right now I just want to know if you will still have to do the chain case mod to run 7 tooth drivers? (my guess is yes) I'm seriously considering trying the new PC 2.6 track.

They won't - that was my point. Yamaha does NOT make the turbos or superchargers that their dealers install! They have a platform that works with them and make money by having their service department install and service them. And again, that is only SPECULATION (more like wishful thinking) on my part that Polaris would consider the same. And I have to disagree with the '13's - the announced changes are not big changes to me. Belt drive, somewhat, but with aftermarket belt drives available what else? Bold new running boards and a couple carbon supports? Now the motor updates are. I think the other guys hit the nail on the head - Polaris isn't going to market the motor changes because of warranty issues with the '11's and '12's. They simply have too much to lose.

Have FUN!

Word I heard today was the changes are for the '14 motor, not '13. That, and the next gen snow motor is not even on the table yet. Guess we will see.

dealer in my town is tight lipped but did say what polaris has planned for 2015 is "going to change snowmobiling"

I dont think Polaris is telling dealers their 2015 plans already much less 2014.

Unless you are one of the "Golden Boy" dealerships and you might actually be helping test. If the dealership I am thinking of is the one you speak of....highly likely that "They" have at least some inside information.

Gman086: Dude, not doubting what you are telling us. You probably were told that there is going to be changes. I have just been screwed before getting too excited about something that never was to happen. I would just like to have somebody from Poo back it up. Until I see it in a magazine or web publication, I will take it with a grain of salt.

My take on this....the main concern people have with this sled is engine failures....IF there were improvements made, why would Polaris keep it a secret? Seems to me they would use this as a selling point, not kept secret.
Can anyone confirm there were changes to anything besides part numbers? numbers can change for many reasons.
Perhaps they are trying more than one design on the snow to determine IF it is an improvement?....what shows up on production sleds might be something different ???

Exactly Winter Brew! That's why I am full of hope and wishing to get something that has a better design and some longevity but I won't truely believe until I see it under the hood of my 13' when I pick it up.

I think we have seen all the changes for 13. Remember why Polaris does this. To make money. The first year the engineering and tooling set up changes will kill profitability. 2nd year and the years after is where they make the return on that investment. A few small things to get you to buy the next year sled or sell it after 2 years. :face-icon-small-dis for us, the main reason to get a 13 is so you don't have an 11 or 12 with 1100-2000 miles on it which seems to be be where they start to go down. I have one day left to figure out what I am doing for next year.

I think it's funny how many people get stuck in the current year. Every year of every sled is R&D and fine tuning for next year (and the next year). The auto industry does the same thing. So Polaris saw some sleds go down and decided to address the issue. Do you really expect the website (maybe right next to the new belt drive and seat) to advertise a better head, pistons or cylinder? This is not an epidemic like the IQ CFI4 was. Yeah some motors went down but ALOT didn't.

Another reason I cann see Polaris not saying anything about motor changes is if they were to say "we made these changes to improve reliability" Then during the following year some other issue came up then somebody would be wanting to sue them again..If Polaris does not say anything about motor changes then that can't happen.

cylinder skirts will be thinker and the upper case halves have have been modified to accommodate. supposedly some minor porting changes. refined mapping. no changes to the pistons. polaris isn't and won't advertise the changes.
