2013 Polaris Pro Gear Down Kit

I was wondering if I could get some advice or anyones past experiences with gearing down the Polaris Pro QDS. I was looking at the Kurt's Polaris kit and it looked to be about $600 for the entire kit. I read some past posts and it sounds like his clutch kit is a good idea as well.

I like how the TKI kit has a tensioner and I was leaning towards the 2.33 gear ratio, but I wanted to see if anyone could share their opinions on setups.

Run the Kurts Gear down with his clutching at the 2.41 ratio? Or run the TKI 2.33 ratio with stock clutching or different clutch kit?

This will be going on a stock 2013 163 Pro 800.

Kurts kit your stuck with one ratio. TKI you can change your ratio with a pulley if you dont like it or if you want to change it for whatever other reason.

kurts kit w/ his clutching, he has done all the hard work and testing into this I rode one of his demo 15s set up with his set up and its the way to go. the sled was a blast to ride and was a beast if I needed to wheelie to get over a log or something the sled had no problem and I am about 300 with all my gear and backpack on. And the sled was not designed to be run with a tensioner, I don't see a need for it the tki is quality kit, but with kurt doing a lot of R&D with the gear down and getting the clutching down, that's the way I am going.

I and my buddy both have the TKI kit and we ride 8 to 10k. The 2 25 Gear worked the best for both of our riding styles which is mostly trees. That gear REALLY woke our sleds up at altitude and the kit was bullet proof with no issues. I would recommend it highly. Tom was great to work with, as well.

BTW, my buddy checked a T3 and is selling his Poo TKI kit with maybe 500 miles on it. He is getting another TKI for his new Skud. :present:

I took my TKI off my 13 and transferred it to the 15...First thing I did when I got the new sled.

PM answered.

My TKI belt with 750 miles looks to be as new. It is a Gates Poly Chain and still has lots of blue on the inside. I carry a spare but never needed it. The belts are cheap as an added bonus and the top gear is pretty easy to change in the field if you want to experiment with ratios.

I realize you got squared away but others might have the same question so.

I have the Kurt's gear down and clutch kit and have been nothing but impressed with it. It makes the 800 way more fun to play with in the low end which is huge compared to stock.

SSo it the gear down for just the tree riders/ as I like to "Old Style" and still boondock and sidehill and highmark--- it the 2.09 ( stock) really to high especially with me running a 163

I found the stock gearing to be to tall personally. I have also never wanted for more grunt high marking with the gear down kit installed. It just made the sled more snappy and responsive, I can't go Mach 10 across a lake anymore but that wasn't my cup of tea anyway. I want to boondock the lake not go in a straight line.

I think Polaris put way to high of gearing in the sled for a mountain sled as they tend to do. I suppose like everything though it boils down to personal preference.

Have any of you done the clutching and then the gear down later? I'm wondering if I would be better off to reclutch this year and do the gear down kit next or just do the gear down. I am somewhat limited on money this year so trying to pick the best upgrade for a stock pro.

With Kurts gear down you actually gain some track speed since with the stock gearing you come no were close to using all of the clutches, with the gear down kit you are very close to a true 1:1 ratio with your clutches.

I'm assuming you get the 1:1 ratio when you do the clutching as well? That's what I was wondering about the Tki kit and the2.25 ratio. Are you actually losing track speed until you add some weight to the clutches?

I forgot about that video but yeah that's it my buddy and I talked to Kurt for about 2hrs on his sled setup and the hours and time they have into it. The clutch kit has custom spring rates and custom helix and you use polaris weights and just drop weight for elevation for me were I ride 6-8 and when I got to come city and other high elevations one other set of weights. They do all the work for you no testing that's a + IMO especially if your just going to ride stock

My clutch kit and gear down kit arrived today from Kurt's. I thought it wasn't going out till next week but they shipped it early. Looks nice!

what about clutching if one was to go with the TKI set-up?

what seems to be the best ratio to go with on stock sled? regardless of who’s kit is run?

Some interesting reading on gearing
