2013 Doo (not impressed)

Well it looks like the Doo won't be trumping the RMK this year. No radical improvements that will make it light, no drive improvements, no steering improvements and still no styling eye candy. Check out the flat green sled. Wow I can't believe they had the guts to actually present a sled in flat green. I was hoping for a chassis/body change that looked like a sled. I cannot stand the look of these things or the ride for that matter. Every time I ride a Doo I am reminded why I ride Polaris. Poo you need to bring on a DI with 10+ more ponies and you will have it all wrapped up. Hands down. Are you listening Polaris. I think you already know this. Get er done.

Here's my take on it, Ski-Doo needed one more year on the chassis that they want to release and they don't want it to be a Pro Climb so more R&D for there new chassis. Polaris has it figured out 100% make a sled that's light, and mountain riding friendly. They have a sled that doesn't have as much power as the other 2 in this game but they get it to the snow very efficiently and the chassis loves to be rode in technical situations, that is it's biggest strength.

Polaris does need to bump the HP though. I have never complained about my 11 Pro or my 12 Assault but more power through that 800 would be icing on the cake. And that's my prediction for next year is they will have a motor that is better then what they have now...:D

So from what I can see so far, the Scud 163 will be in the 472# range and 165 hp. What would you rather have 10hp or -50#? That is what I see to be the difference really, other than the gimmick T-motion suspension that may or may not work.

Why doesn't someone do a HP test at the track, who cares what the HP numbers at the crank are, with poo's new more effecient drive I would guess they are going to be damn close at the track.

Lets say poo 143 at crank and doo 161 at crank

143*.64 = 91.52 and 417 lbs power to weight .219
161 *.60 = 95.5 and 459 lbs power to weight .208

just my thought

I know this is not how the the manufacturer's calc power to weight, but maybe it should be.

I couldnt help but laugh a little to myself when I saw what doo released for 2013. I'm sorry, but after all the "skidoo is going to have a game changer" "pfft pro POS" "blah blah blah" I think its kinda funny... Doo still has some arm pulling power but not enough to give them a huge edge in any category IMO.

I'll take 50lbs less and FLICKABILITY any day :face-icon-small-coo

I'll be really suprised if that rear suspension survives a winter. I'm sure it would be fine in bottomless pow, but anywhere else I think that is going to be a major stress point and will break/bend or cause some serious wearing. If you're a doo guy and want an all around sled, you better stick with the Free-ride or '12 summit. Just face it, Doo willingly took a back seat in the mountain segment again. :face-icon-small-ton (I mean at least cat TRIED last year with their proclimb)

ha sorry couldnt help myself (half my riding group is on Doos so this is fun for me)

The tMotion seems like an interesting idea, maybe it will work, and I don't even quite understand how it works yet...but for someone like me who needs a more versatile sled it doesn't sound like the best idea. Just sounds like something that would break easily and cause weird handling if you have to ride on someone's track.

4 degrees is not a lot of motion but like you guys have already said it seems like it will definitely be a weak point on this sled. The way it looks to me is the already stable feeling ski doo sled will be even more planted with this suspension. Think about the way you carve, you rely on your track to somewhat "wash out" to get you sideways with the skid mounted firmly in the chassis. With this new suspension when you go to lean it looks as if the suspension will stay planted flat when you are leaning causing it to propel you forward rather than "wash out". Maybe thats just how im looking at it. Maybe it will work great.

I think the subtle changes they made to the plastic actually improved the look from the xp. I never liked the look of the xp but i can at least look at the xm and not think it looks like a complete turd. JMO

Really... another "My dad can beat up your dad" post??? .

Not really, just that I was asking if guys would rather have 10hp or -50#. Really not a "My dad" post at all. I, for one, was really hoping Ski-doo would have a sled in the low 400# range. Pushes them all to do better and to not get complacent.

I think a lot of people really thought Ski-doo was going to drop a "bomb" on the world like Polaris did for 2011. Change things up for ever type of changes. Cat didn't do that last year either. The glove box is cool. the under seat storage is cool, but in the grand scheme of things, no game changers are uncovered yet. The new rear skid may actually be the "ticket" next year but until then, we can only speculate.

I enjoy seeing all the unveilings. Love the build up to the curtain drop.

Definitely a lot easier/cheaper to add 20hp than drop 50 pounds, on any sled.

I think its great that BRP has decided to get more serious on the summit and do some more mods to the sled.....BUT I think this is another bandaid year for Doo. IMHO the flex track will be a flop, it will loose flotation in setup snow as the outer edges of the track will want to collapse, thus a trencher. Also I want to see how the clips/track hold up to the drivers when there is no support on the outer edge of the track. Unless Doo redesigned there drivers for this sled it just seems like this will cause issues. The new 4 degree flexing rear suspension sounds interesting, but with that being said I think there could be some marketing going on with that gimic as a stock skid will flex a few degrees. This new tilting skid may take some time to get used to it as its going to sidehill and carve a little different. The new handle bars/grab bar/controls look nice. The new gauges, and heated compartment seems great too. The seat looks lit should be nice with the storage compartment. I still think the boards will hold snow. Nice changes for 2013 but I dont think these changes will not swing many people away from a Pro RMK, or a PRO climb.

All I can say is "Got Plastic?" One thing Polaris has figured out is how to make the functional parts of the sled nice to look at. This is just good enginering (as is weighing 50lbs less!). All the other brands just pile the plastic on to cover up thier "agricultural" designs. Polaris has made a huge leap with the Pro chassis and I can see just looking at the outside of the Doo they have not done it this year.

It doesn't even move 4 degrees. 4 in total, but it will only move 2 degrees to either side from 90.

To illustrate just how little that is.

I dunno? I'll reserve judgement until I try it... it just doesn't seem like it will even be noticeable though.

On the same dyno on the same day the three 800s will be within 6 horse power and I'm sure the pro make a few more at the track

Let's see. 4deg. While that might not sound like much, it is 4deg at, say 1ft. That equates to what exactly? Well, if my triangle maths is up to speed (12 tan (4))=x) then we can say a movement of about 0.84in. That is quite a bit. More than I am currently comfortable with...

I agree with that one. Take $2200 and call SLP and you've got your 20 HP. Take the same $2200 and see how close to 417 lbs you can make the Doo. Good luck.
