2013/14 Togwotee Snow Conditions

I'm in Dubois right now rode moccasin yesterday about 12-18" on top of a good base. nice and sunny have the wife and kids with great snow for them and me not to many stucks.

Word is nothing fresh for a few days but still powder in the trees. We're heading out in a few hours.

We were out all day today. It snowed a few inches, but nothing spectacular. The snow is mostly hard and tough to ride on. Need some fresh up here pretty bad. Lots of snow still (no rocks sticking out or anything), but there's pretty much no powder except in the trees. Never once had snow coming over the hood all day. Everybody still got stuck several times.

What a difference one day can make. We rode in about 10" of fresh powder all day. We made first tracks in every meadow and climb. Out of our group of 10, nobody was unhappy about the snow conditions. There could still be more powder, but I'm not complaining about what we had today.

We had a good ride yesterday. There was 4-6" of fresh on top of all the open areas that were previously hard and tracked out. More fresh on some hills where it drifted in and didn't blow away. Still tons of untouched snow in the trees. Everybody got stuck several times again. Lefty said they put a probe down a couple days ago and there was still 9 feet.

Tog area.

Riding this week, mostly firm snow (hero snow), but a lot fun in the areas we've been. Very challenging in a way I didn't expect, firm snow is a great to learn new techniques that will make it easy to ride powder. Glad I'm here and having a great time.
