2012 switchback assult 800

going to be picking up my new sled next week wondering what i should look for/do to the sled before taking it out. i just started doing a little reading on here about them. also what are people doing for clutching/gearing set ups on these. it has the 2x144 track on it... i am new to a polaris, been on my m7 141 the past few years. only riding 1000-4000 feet. thank for any help in advance!

SB Assault checklist.

I bought the same sled this year. Your going to love it. Im not sure what kind of riding your going to be doing but I think the stock 20/42 gears are great, there is a little to be gained with clutching, but again depends on your riding style. Carls has a great pro kit that works great on these for mountain/boondocking. Double check the torque on your primary clutch bolt after 5 or 10 miles of riding. 80 ft/lbs. I had two friends have their clutches break in half on a trip out west because their clutch wasnt properly seated on the crank. Only other problem I had this year was the jam nut on the rear axle was loose when i picked the sled up. (Pretty sure that track tension is on the dealer checklist).

Anyway, read through the manual and set up the suspension for your riding type/weight. Should be all you need!

Hey - only got about 140 miles on mine and love the sled. i ride 1000'-3000' and i dropped top gear to 19 (comes stock 20/43 with 2" track) - am running 71g mtx weights with 2g in each hole - installed gauge lifter and slp vent. Waiting on PA Head and HPS can - very interested to see how that plays out. But seriously great stock sled - not something that needs to be over thought - some gearing and clutching and away you go.

in maine i do mostly tree riding, we dont have big wide open climbs like out west. thats all i plan on doing is just working on the clutching/gearing set up.

That's plenty - get the clutching and gearing dialed in you'll have a ball on this sled. My other sled is a 06 - 700 Rmk - and that think could climb pretty decent but was crap on trails - this sled handles awesome on the trails and climbs as good or better - I figure it's gonna be a great jumper too!!! Just wish all the snow wasn't 5 hrs away.

RMK Helix
20/42 gearing
SLP Blue/Pink Primary
Team Black Red Secondary.

8100 all day and pulls real good off the line all the way up.

just under 400 miles on my 2012 with the 2 inch and love it. great tree riding sled could always use more power but u will run out of traction before power with this machine. all around great sled not a single problem yet. KNOCK ON WOOD!!!! heading to cooke city wednesday for more play time.

assault 144

been looking for a thread like this, have the same sled but havent messed with it too much yet. With the 2" track will guys like us with the 144 even be able to get in the back country of areas like togwotee, cooke city, or the big horns? Trying to decide if I should do all the modifications and spend the money or just go out there and rent.

No primary spring problems?

Altitude setup

I have had my sled this year out to the snowys once, and last year i had my 11' out the the big horns twice. ran the same setup all three times and it was dead on. 20/42 gears, rmk helix, black/purple secondary, 140/330 primary. (10-58's for 10000+,10-60's for 8000-10k) Was told to try running a size heavier and it should pull harder with that RMK helix. Havent gotten back out to give it a shot. I should note... I am also running the 2" paddle track out west.

had the sled out this weekend, feels like you really gotta give it some to get the sled to move in the pow when in the trees, almost feels like your giving it to much, i was gunna get some more miles on the sled before i start messing with it, but what are the angles for the rmk helix? also should i gear it down some?

I have a 2011 SB 144 with 2 IN lug on it. I ride Cooke City usually twice a year and would like to more. I have had no issues getting into the back country. If you are looking to highmark hills you may want more track but to ride the trees like I do 144 will get you around great if you know how to ride a little. My buddies all ride 153 cats or 155 Poo and I dont feel I need more track to have fun. Like I said it depends on how you like to ride and where for sure. I think the 144 makes a great tree machine. Love mine.
