northern horns ??

Its been a few years since we have been to northern horns,we usually ride the southern horns, where are the best play areas located ?? south of bearlodge or to the west, not looking for anyones secret spots, just wanting a opinion to get us headed in right direction. Thanks

Usually the best is west about 20 miles. South or west is all good but south up off hunt mountain road gets hit pretty hard. Fun area though, canyon heads both to the north and south off the ridge. Now I told you that, where do you go in the south? How far is it out of Buffalo to drive up to unload, been thinking of giving it a try on our last day out over new years. I'll be up north 29th - 2nd. Only two of us so someone can always tag along, I know that area failrly well.

bighorns

You need to drive about 20 miles on 16 to get to some parking areas, we always stay at deer haven lodge by meadowlark lake, we normally ride north area towards the paintrock trail that connects south to northern horns Lots of good areas up that way lots of little canyon getaways and deep powder tree riding,

We like to go south/west or north/west usually. Anyone planning on going up this weekend?

place to go this weekend

I know the south big horns may not have 6-7 of powder with a good base but would it be closer than Cooke? Roads are covered to get to open meadows and the hills/valley's have plenty of snow to play in...may not be what everyone is expecting but it looks like winter is still weeks away from giving us any real good dumpings....I can always point you to some good areas...did most of all this on horseback this summer and have been out on sled already. Just hate to see everyone miserable at home.

Snow yesterday

We ended up with 4 inches of snow yesterday. Wet kind most of the day. Had 10 people on sleds come up to play. Temps did not get above 20. No wind. 50% chance for snow today.

Not sure whats up with that werner software but looks like its information is old... The snotels didnt change that much and the snow depths are off on almost all the sites. I like that map tho its quick and easy, wish it had updated data.

Bearlodge

Their page has been down for the past few days. Usually I think his name is Rick, gives a weekly snow report. Plus they've got a webcam they usually update.

Two months until my visit the Horns and it can't come soon enough. Right now I'm just wishing for more snow here so I can at least have a chance to break in my new sled before the trip.

Look like everywhere else in the state is getting snow (south and west) but the bighorns are getting screwed :face-icon-small-dis

Trails starting to be groomed

Groomer came by lodge today and was on the last or the grooming run. He said he ran into some deep stuff at Bucking Mule falls but made it out. He will be passing this way again as soon as we get some more snow...only 1 inch today. Temps are staying under 20. 14a from Lovell has about 1/2 inch of snow on it. Lodge rooms booked this weekend...finally!!

Thinking about picking up a sled in billings tomorrow. Is it worth it to bring mine and ride on Wednesday?
