2012/13 Big Horns North/South snow conditions

Snow at Wyoming High Country Lodge
Ventured out today.........Forest Roads 13-14-11 all have 3-6 inches of snow on them, with drifts up to 4'. Only 1 sled has been down FR13 and FR14 in the last 3 days. FR 11 (Sheep Mtn Rd) has not had anyone venture up it yet. 14A is clear so you can get to those roads easily. Jaws trailhead parking area has 4-6 inches snow in it and no one had been there yet. Porcupine Ranger Station (FR13) thru the tree's to FR14 had only one sled on it and is about same depth as the others...the one sled that went down there did not come up our way to the other end of FR13. Our drive is packed with about 6 inches and the meadow in front of us has 4-7 inches with deep drifts in spots. Rocks still visible so you won't hit them. Got up to 40 degree's today with sunshine all day.

Was up at granite pass. Rocks show up good. Snow isn't real deep but was fun to ride it. Figured if I wrecked it at least I was riding when I did. Probley be better next time though. Just test and tune this time. Good luck out there

Had 2 sledders come by lodge today about lunchtime. They were out for about 4 hours in and around the lodge, medicine wheel and FR13. Made good tracks up hill towards medicine wheel and out in open meadows. They Parked at mm76. (the brake check turn out area) (good only till monday at noon) From what I saw they didn't hit and rocks or dry spots. Still using ATV to get down to Crystal Creek rest area from lodge. 14a was completely dry and only a little snow on shoulder for sleds right now.

How are the trails out of arrow head lodge, I was thinking about taking the family up this weekend for a trail ride to get my son use to his new sled. Not looking to do any boondocking or anything like that.

Sledders
Had a sledder out there yesterday and a big side by side it looks like, by tread size. Tracks for sledder are out in meadow off 14a in and around FR13 and headed west. I made it as far as FR14 and FR11 intersection(sheep mtn rd) before I had to turn back due to snow drifts (out on my little honda atv) Tracks on 14 and 11 were filling in from snow drifting and wind where someone had gone up and down the roads. Winds are really blowing snow today......

No new snow
No new snow at Wyoming High Country Lodge yesterday or last night. Just wind. It has died down a little this morning. Still enough snow in the area to ride on. Had 6 sleds come in yesterday. 2 from Sheridan and 4 from Manderson. Got us a sled for here now....Polaris 600 Liberty. It's a start. Oh..paid my $15 so I can keep posting past 75!
