2011/12 Snowy Range snow conditions

Just got home last night from Ryan Park and the snow was great, snowed anywhere from a foot to two feet while we were there. Had a great week minus a rock in a creek bed one of the guys we were with found. Thanks to rendevous lodge to yet another great stay.

Newmy, they didn't look any worse for wear except for getting in after dark and nowhere to park since we were hogging up all the space by the brown house. :face-icon-small-blu
Oh no, we were already packed up by then...
Sorry if we woke anyone up on Sat morning but the damn German diesel didn't want to start.
The snow was killer... Not ready to come home.

You gotta just load your sled up in back of your truck and go! Pretty good odds of lining up some riding mates on this forum! I'm headed out solo (flying though) next Sat. Gonna roll the dice i guess.

I just couldn't go by myself I don't know all the areas well enough and its just so much more fun to be riding with another person and its much safer.

Me and a buddy and leaving Friday morning and staying thru Wednesday. We're staying on the snowy side of the Mountain and always up for another guy to help dig out us out. Look us up.

Will do rocko, got a couple of contacts out there gotta try them first, always down with shreddin new guys! Noaa is calling for 6 -10in with more chances later in the week.

oh yeah... something even scarier that wyoming had to offer me

probably the scariest moment of my life. went on a night ride, going too fast in alpine wy. 65-70 mph, see something at the edge of my vision straight ahead. its getting really big really fast. yep, it's a bull moose charging directly at me. well at least i think its a bull, antlers are shed. lock up the brakes. obviously the brakes dont do much at 65 mph on a smooth trail in the middle of the night. tried to pitch it sideways, didn't do much. i know I'm dead at this point. either the moose jumped outta the way at the last second or one of my multiple guardian angels body checked that fat *** outta the way :) the friend I met at the bar on the back of my sled had no clue what had even happened. should be dead. some important lessons learned in wyoming.

1- moose will fu!@ing kill you.
2- whyoming has some crazy terrain/climbs
3- how to actually work on my arctic cat (thanks Bryan that I met at the bull moose who apparently is friends with every stripper)
4- how to correctly ride my 800 HO 162" (at least most the time ;)
5- the 800 H.O. must suck twice as much gas as the pro rmk... or maybe it's my throttle always happens to be wide open
6- buy a freaking avalanche backpack!!!
7- the rules of the strip clubs in wyoming and which ones to break. HAHAHAHA!!!!

this happened last saturday. hope the very vague location is correct. hope I'm even posting on the right site. here is a video of the aftermath. I'm from washington and this is the first time I have ever seen someone buried. happy to be ok.

scroll to the middle of the video for avalanche footage.

please tell me if you see anything unsafe I or one of my group members have done. I'm signing up for an avalance training session as soon as I tell all my amazing stories from wyoming. sadly it took one of my friends to almost die to actually decide to buy an ave pack and a training session.

This should be in the avy section but thanks for posting. As far as "do we see anything unsafe"? Well the most glaring part for me was how long it took you guys to get to your buddy and ask him if he was alright......damn good thing he wasn't buried.

Let's just say when you take the avy class you'll learn alot! From the video it's hard to see where your riding partners are, but obviously one was in the slide zone. You REALLY have to be aware.

Just this last weekend here in the Snowy's as I came out of the Rollercoaster, I came upon probably 20 sleds sitting right at the bottom of Widowmaker, stopped and pointed out to them it would be a whole lot better observe from up on the ridge. Just over a month ago that particular hill was shear ice 'bout 2/3rds the way up, scares the livin' hell outa me.

Yep I will move this to avy section but I looked for anything that pops as DANGER and there is not any footage or at least good pics of what it looked like before the slide. As for how longt it took I cant imagine my buddies sitting down below talking and waiting to see where I was at. You also should of came to a stop BELOW your friends location as another slide could of just buried him deeper due to you highmarking over him.

If my buddy's stopped and had a round table discussion before coming to my aid, I would have my pistol and knive out to greet them. I'd hate to see how quick you would move if you didn't like this guy.

we wouldn't sit there and converse about how to save a guy :(

he actually was buried guys... our tall friend on the ski doo luckily saw it happen. he was completely buried right down the hill from his sled. luckily his hand was sticking out so we didn't have to get the beacons out. our tall guy went and had him undug in under 2 minutes is what he says. he then moves down the hill after he makes sure matt is ok to collect the rest of the group to save the sled.
