2011/12 Snowy Range snow conditions

You can't predict the Snowy's, our next chance of Snow is Saturday. The way the storms have been going, we have been disappointed. But we must remember it is only the second week of November... Our snow season typically does not start till December. Last year was and anomaly when it comes to riding in November. You best bet is to keep an eye on the weather and snowtels. http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClic...688476562&site=cys&unit=0&lg=en&FcstType=text

We have links to the snowtels at the bottom of this page. http://www.srscwy.com/RidingConditions.htm

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on those links. That's what sucks about planning a trip this time of year, it's early enough that a lot of places will have a long way to go before they're ready. I'd like to plan a trip for later in the winter but Thanksgiving weekend seems to be my best bet right now so I gotta get while the gettin's good.

The snow over the weekend was 'bout 2 ft on the west side, more in the Madres. Big thing were the 100mph winds, some building lost roofs, trees down, etc.
I drove over to Ryan Park on friday before the snow, noticed alot of clearing of beetle kill trees where you climb up out of Silver Lake to the west. Just FYI, not sure how high they're cut--could be really tough on A-arms early in the season:fear:

I was told that WY has a 1 foot cut height maximum so the trees have to be cut no more than 1 foot above ground. Any truth to that? We were talking to the snow cops and that is what they said last year.

I walked through the cut area near Silver Lake, during hunting season. In general there is no standard stump height. Also there is lots of limbs and branches and smaller logs all over.

If u choose to ride in the early season or on low snow (-36"). Plan on hitting s*%#. !!!!

Went up to Albany first and no tracks. Drove over to Centinnial and quite abit of dry road to cross going up and over. Pretty good snow on trail going north to warming hut. Watch for rocks! Still need snow but great for first trip out. Snowed all day.More to come.
