2010 Forum Ride

Thread Rating
5.00 star(s)
I spoke with 3Rivers Resort, and with Almont Resort regarding lodging.

There are a variety of options from cabins next to the river and vacation homes of various sorts to hotel rooms. All have excellent trailer parking! Rates vary from 67/night for hotel/lodge rooms to 315.00/night for a 4 bed vacation home. Cabins of various sizes are around 120-130 with multiple beds. (will post specifics)

3Rivers is offering a 15% discount on lodging over their rack rates above. (as long as you mention you're with "Snowest 4M Ride")

I'll post the specifics tonight, and I should be able to visit with Almont Resort yet this week and see what they have to offer.

Almont Resort has a bar, excellent restaurant (steaks are great!), and a good sized bar area with pool tables, etc...

Depends on what all Mtn Doo works out but if JR, RD, Sup, or Dogmeat comes with, I wouldn't mind one of those 4 bedroom deals Split 4 ways it's pretty cheap.

Myself and skyjmpr's wife are In. We had a great time... last time, and yes cory..... it was the Last Chance Bar.... Good times :beer;:beer;:D

How is that shiny new motor?

The motor is nice, still need to break it in, I put on one of those fancy heads on, re-did the handle bars, risers,alum throttle, better boards, 09 frt-end kit and never had time to ride it at the end of last season. It's all ready to go, just need to find some good race fuel :D:beer;

Ok, here's the scoop...

Almont is 1/2 way between Gunnison and Crested Butte - both are a 15min drive each way..

Irwin Trailhead: ~20min
Taylor Park Trading Post: ~30min
Black Mesa: 40min

There are two "resorts" adjacent to each other in Almont:

(1) Three Rivers Resort

Clicky: Three Rivers Resort

Mark Schumaker (sp?) is the proprietor, and offered a 15% discount on all rates if you state at the onset that you're with the "Snowest Forum Ride".

There is a map of the rental properties on his web site.

Per my discussion with him today, he has the following properties available for Presidents Day Weekend.

Cabins # 17-21 Qty5 - 2 bed on river queen + 2 twins $130/night for up to 4 people.

Cabin #26 - 1bed + loft (3x Queen beds) = 120.00/night

Cabin #29 - 2br + loft (4x queens) 150.00

Cabins #57-67 , queen, 2 double mattresses, and hide a bed (low ceiling in loft) modular type cabins - 130.00/night

Lodge Rooms - up to 6 rooms - hotel style, queen and double futon, private bath $65/night.

Two Vacation Homes - 4bed, multi bath, Jacuzzi, TV, great room 2000+ft, $315.00/night

This property is on the East/Right side of HWY 135 as your drive from Gunnison to Crested Butte.

(1) Almont Resort

CLICKY: Almont Resort

This is also a nice resort with cabins and vacation homes for rent.
It is withing a few hundred yards of Three Rivers Resort.

I spoke with the gal there today, and she said to call back in a week or two when they are able to take reservations that far out. I will ring her back and try to get a similar deal as to what we have with Mark @ Three Rivers.

I suspect their rates will be comparable to their neighbors.

Almont Resort has a nice restaurant, and a large bar area with pool tables, etc.. It's probably a good place to congregate, and-or set up a group dinner arrangement. I'll try to see what it would cost per head to have them do a dinner night or two for us.

Almont Resort is on the west/left side of HWY 135 as you travel from Gunnison to Crested Butte.

Basically, if you have a few people staying in each cabin/lodge room/vaca home it looks like the lodging cost can be pretty modest and you're a bit closer to the Irwin Trailhead and Taylor Park trailhead than staying in Gunnison. You can stumble home to either of the resorts' cabins from the bar/restaurant. No need to drive anywhere.

What other items should we investigate?

I'd really like to do something that helps put Hidden Gems Wilderness campaign to bed. Just not exactly sure how to help.

Is there a little boost hiding in there;);)

Hell Yeah!

I'd be down for that.

XC wants to build a boosted 900. *hint hint*

PJ - after Gunnison got wiped out by Aliens, it made a cameo on an Obama Campaign video ad.
They showed the old Oasis bar in the middle of town. LOL.

I'm pretty much sure that put him over the top. Grrr!

;-)

MD.

I need to have you show me around up there sometime. I really wanna hit those climbs that you posted in the "anticipation" thread.

You bet, lots of big terrain you don't see at RE's. Great in the spring when everything is setting up.

What are the dates of the trip again? I'm pretty sure I'm in, Just need to check the dates!

I am there. If someone wants to share a room or house what ever let me know.
I am 36
NON SMOKER.......
I don't drink.... And am looking at doing some night riding (on the sled) as well. SO... if you want to room together let me know. And we can put together a deposit.
No this is not a singles post lol.. Well I guess it could be but it's not.

Ok so if your in the northern colorado area and you want to car pool/room together let me know. It would be easier that way. Looking at ALMONT Cabin 17 45 a night.

Hey nightrider, you can't go to a forum ride w/o drinking a bit.

J/K, I've ridden with a bunch of guys that I have all met thru this forum. We all have a good time tearing up the pow.
