2010-2011 Whistler/Pemberton Conditions

I am hoping you guys can help me out. I was thinking of doing some camping in Pemberton and going for a ride, not that familiar with the area though. My trailer is 29ft, is there a place to set up without upsetting anybody? Don’t think I can make it up to the first clearing - I am assuming there is too much snow right now. Any help would be appreciated.

Dan

Hey Dan, I doubt you will find anywhere to park your 29 foot trailer next to the snowline this time of the year. It will be different from later March on but this time of the year it is tight. There are two winter RV parks in Whistler, one right across from Callaghan and another in upper Whistler village. Both have full hookups so you don't have you use your tanks. I have a 30 footer and the sites are pull in pull out and works well. The one in the village is the most expensive at $45.00 a night and the breakfast at the clubhouse there is awesome!! The other is $35.00 a night. Personally I would stay in the village so you can party in the night time!! It is also nice having hookups this time of the year!

Hope your turbo is working well! Maybe I will get to ride with you again this season!?

Hotels

Anyone recomend a nice hotel to stay at in the pemberton/Whistler area that is ok with sleds. Must have hottub, the Pemberton Valley Lodge is full for when we want to go.
Thanks

Coast Blackcomb Suites is nice. They are up the mountain a ways in Whistler but there is a free shuttle into the village in the night time . They have a great hot tub. However, they only have three overheight parking stalls if you are decking it and are first come first serve and are $15.00 a night to park. If you have a trailer you could be in trouble.

I would personally stay in Whistler just because it has a nightlife but if you are not interested in partying then there are also a couple of decent B&B's in Pemby. It also depends on where you want to ride. If you are riding the Hurley then stay in Pemberton, if you are riding anywhere around Whistler I would stay in the village.

Brandywine Feb 2nd

Rode Brandywine Wednesday February 2nd, got my dad out first time on a sled in about 40 years. Rode out through avalanche alley which has been groomed, out to Grizzley lake, picture was taken at the top of the first pull past the lake. The main paths of travel are all tracked out (makes it easy to get around) but there is still good snow to be had if you look around. Also have some precipition in the next few days, be nice to get another 20-30cm, forcasting another day off next time its sunny.

Puking all day at Brandywine yesterday (Sunday). Bad viz but the tracks were filling in between the trees as the day went on. Up to knee deep. Should be really good when the sun cracks this week and the snowpack settles. Trail in wasn't groomed but the whoops were small.

Got a couple of buddies that want to try sledding. Who can I rent a couple of sleds from in Whistler?

Ray would probably the best as well i was thinkn as well. I don't think you can just rent a sled from one of the other places and go without a guide

Ya x2 Its deep...and DRY!

There's been 187cm/71 in, in the last & days! Out today on the BRP etec demo's, its real deep and its Revelstoke like dry powder!

Awesome

Hey I saw you guys in the bowl!

Totally must have just come by you, didn't hang out in the bowl very long but saw a couple Cat's in there.

You should have come up to Metal Dome, it was plain Stupid in there!!!

Get that **** edited and post it up, were you shooting with GoPro or Contour? Left mine in the truck, didn't think you be able to see anything, way to prove me wrong!

Brandywine Feb 18th

Couple pictures from Friday, tons of snow. Also found a tasty place to eat if you are going through Squamish called The Campfire Grill. Menu says "Chef Mike Is Smokin It...Low and Slow", specializing in take out bbq ready in minutes, ribs, bbq chicken, pulled pork, slow roasted beef and a burger special on Friday. Its in a bit of a wierd spot located at the Eagle Vista RV Resort & Campground just off the hyway, 1940 Centenial Way. I'll be going back - to Brandywine and for some good food after.
