2010-2011 Whistler/Pemberton Conditions

Hope to be riding Goldbridge next weekend. Anyone know if you can ride right into GoldBridge right now?

I was up at Brandywine Friday, snow was great once you dropped into Grizzly Lake and we were having a GREAT day! We were riding at the far side of Grizzly in the little bowl there, when we got in there I rode around to look for any holes or anything before I was going to really rip around because there is rolling hills and I didn’t know what was on the other side. I spotted one hole, I didn’t know how deep or big it was but I knew I wanted to stay away from it! We were all ripping around in the untouched pow. I saw one of the guys in the group go in the direction of the hole which was over a hill! so I went around the bottom side to make sure he didn’t go in, as I rode around I was watching my other buddy climbing a hill, as I watch I thought "mmm the other guy still hasn’t come from the other side of the hill yet" so I rode up by the hole and I saw his track marks going right off the edge! I packed about 20feet from the hole and slowly walked up to in cause I could see that the over side was over hanging and I thought the side I was on could be too! When I got to the edge of the hole it was about 17ft wide and 25+ft down with
about 6 feet of water at the bottom, I could see the back 2 feet of the sled above the water the rest was fully under! I started calling for him and he yelled back! He was able to swim to the side
and stand on a very small edge of ice. He was ok just wet, I waved down the others! I hit my SOS
button on my SPOT! The helicopter took over an hour to come! And then they brought the wrong
gear so they had to go back and get it! In the end he had to get helied right out of the hole and
then flown out to whistler! He was in the hole for over two hours! TOOO LONG! He only had a
broken rib! Earlier that week another guy fell in a hole just down from the one our buddy fell in! I
just wanted to let you guys know that if your riding back behind the lake be safe!!! Ride around
and check stuff out before going over any unknown hills!!!!

This guy got very lucky! Things could have turned out alot worse!

BRAAAAP SEE YOU ON THE HILL!

Glad he is OK! I hate holes! I fell into a 70 foot one 12 years ago and it was the scariest day of my entire life! Especially when you think your buddy is in another hole but he leaves for help and you are by yourself for hours! Yikes!!!

Rutherford or the Hurley

Heading up next week and wondering whether to ride out Rutherford or the Hurley. Any recent experience/recommendations appreciated.

Note: 6 of us coming up. Sled decks and short open trailers being used.

Thursday march 17th sledding

Anyone up for a ride tomorrow? I don't care much where, but Brohm or Rutherford would be cool as i haven't been to either before.

Conditions look prime; for the first time in a while there will be visibility!

"Tonight: Cloudy with isolated evening flurries. Overnight clear periods developing. Further accumulations 1-2cm. Low minus 7. Freezing level falling to near 800 metres Thursday: A mix of sun and cloud. Scattered afternoon flurries. Accumulations near 2-3cm. High minus 4. Afternoon freezing level near 1000 meters"

Thanks!

As of Saturday past the parking lot was still at the highway. I rode the Hurley on Saturday and the snow is melting fast down low so by the 9th I am sure you will be driving up the road a ways. It sounds like I might be riding with you on the 9th.

thursday is the day

There has been a bunch of new snow and tomorrow is the day when the high pressure ridge comes in so the vis will be perfect. Low pressure is back by friday and over the weekend so will be poor vis again after tomorrow.

So tomorrow is the day!

Anyone want to hit Brohm or Sproat? If so, text me at 778-231-0513 James

Rutherford unload and general conditions

How far up the road is the unload? 1K? 5K? Further?

Looking at a trip up next week... Last year at this time the conditions were horrible (fog and so hard we had to have scratchers down while on the ice-cap). Don't want a repeat.....

Right now the parking is still at the bottom! Crazy! Lots of riding to go this season
