Thought this thread had died. You didn't hurt the valves at all. They drain when the solenoid is open so you will get more oil as it builds up and then in lower speed riding conditions when the solenoid is open more. If the line was submerged in oil all you did was plug the drain line so that the valves worked like the older Edges with out a solenoid. The stumble was likely the valve opening erratically from partial plugging.
