Strong southwest winds and new snow will combine to rapidly increase the general avalanche hazard to MODERATE this morning and to CONSIDERABLE in the afternoon. New soft slabs up to 18 inches in depth will form upon excellent sliding surfaces. These slabs are likely to be easily triggered by humans and release spontaneously in response to rapid wind loading as they gain volume and depth. Safe travel in avalanche terrain today requires conservative decisions, careful route finding and good travel habits. Local knowledge and experience are essential. Avalanches are unlikely below an elevation of 7,500 feet.

Let it snow!!!

So did you get as much snow as the forecast was predicting. We are heading west this week and are still up in the air as to where we will end up. Whichever area has the most snow is where we are headed.

The General Avalanche Hazard is MODERATE. Backcountry travelers could trigger slabs one to three feet in depth in steep, avalanche starting zones where faceted weak layers persist primarily on northerly and easterly aspects. Avalanches are unlikely below 8,000 feet due to shallow snow depths.

To say the trails around Tog are rough is a understatement. I rode there the 11th. through the 16th and they were brutal!!! My back still hurts, on the bright side we found get stuck snow up high in the trees. JMO

The general avalanche hazard is MODERATE. Recent snowfall has formed soft, shallow slabs. Backcountry travelers could trigger these slides, along with loose snow sluffs on steep, wind-loaded slopes. Older slabs, up to 30 inches in depth, could also be triggered on similar slopes. Evaluate the snow and terrain carefully and use good travel habits.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas!!

Winter has definitely arrived in Jackson Hole and Togwotee Pass. We have received a foot of snow in the last 36 hours and we are expecting more than a foot in the next 24 hours. This will put us back to the same snow depths and snowfall as last year. Togwotee Pass is already at 4' and should be closer to 5' by the end of this storm. Winds are expected to pickup this evening to blizzard conditions. Please note that the avalanche warning is HIGH. We lost some fellow riders yesterday in an avalanche in Utah.

The riding is unbelievable. So if you were thinking of coming to Jackson Hole, give us a call.
