174 x 3" AXYS - Any seat time?

Trying to compare the 163 x 3" and the 174 x 3" LE models.

Anyone have any seat time on the 174 or ridden them both that can give some insight? I know there is a little more flotation on the 174 due to another 6" of track on the snow, but i am wondering about how it handles compared to the 163 x 3".

In person the yellow looks really cool with the grey titanium color!! The orange looks good too, just not quite as flashy as the yellow.

Not the greatest pics as it was overcast but,

I saw the BustaLime sled yesterday at Kurt's Polaris in Seeley.

As in Burandt's sled? I know that is what he named his new one.

Dan Adams had this up the other day on a short facebook video. Love this with the green hood and bumper. He said "new" colorway. not sure if you can get it just like this or if he just meant the green/gray they already released.

Did Burant name his sled BustaLime?
Haha

No, not his sled. I saw someone post that name on here in the last couple weeks when the Pol colors came out.

Yep, the solid green one they built (his daily driver, not the crazy titanium one he built). He's been posting about it since last fall.

But I think a few have been talking about the new one that way too.

I just figured maybe you and Burandt were buddies now since you were in the Axys video last year and he let you ride his sled. :face-icon-small-win

Actually Chris wasn't with us on that.

I've been on both, snow conditions were NOT deep powder. Fresh 10" in the trees with a firm base underneath. The 174 track worked super well in those conditions but the thing wanted to go straight once it started digging... just like the SkiDoo wants to go straight when it starts digging. You had to be committed to turning out when the time came.

Personally, my gut feeling is that if you aren't going to be riding bottomless fluff all the time then the 174 isn't the best choice. The 163 handled better on the trail heading up the hill, but not a huge amount better, they both aren't too fun to ride on a trail. :)

Same problem that I had. I was not sure if the 174" would be to much track for most days, but I figured the only way to find out is to buy one and ride it for the winter. I already have the series 6 163" on my pro with 165hp.
I know they are not the same sleds but I am really hoping to get many side by side test of the 2 tracks performance in differing conditions.

I went lime squeeze

Sled_guy a kmod fixes the ride issue !! That's my plan anyways.

I got to see the new sleds yesterday, and wasn't disappointed :)

On the LE model - which is the only one i am interested in - It looks like the "extras" are as mentioned in a previous post - clicker shocks on skis and rear track shock, regular shock on track front, handlebar bag, underseat bag, tunnel bag, bumpers on front and rear are as pictured, and PIDD gauge is actually pretty cool, though not necessary.

The titanium color was not quite as nice as i had hoped. I was hoping for a dark charcoal gray like the pictures on the polaris site, but the actual color is a medium gray. Wasn't too wild about that at all. The lemon/titanium color combo was the best looking of the two. The orange/titanium was disappointing. I think orange needs a darker contrast color with it (dark charcoal or black would be the best), but that is a personal opinion.

The 174 looks quite a bit longer than the 163 (duh), and not what i will end up getting. I am sure it would be an absolute beast on those deep powder days, and will spank a doo doo all day long! (just sayin')! :) Would sure like to demo one on a day like that :) I will stick with the 163 3" again this year.

Thanks to the crew at Carls Cycles for allowing us to see the "latest and greatest" - going to be a LONG summer!! :)

Cheers!!

That thing looks longer than a night in jail! I just couldn't imagine having a sled like that unless I was just hitting shoots and climbs all day long. Personally for what most of us do for riding I think it to be a bit much.

The above comment was a common statement among those who hadn't ridden a T3 174. After two years on a T3 174 I am very curious how the Axys 174 would perform. Trying to decide if one of each is the best option... I found it to be a blast even in less than ideal snow. Switching with other guys, all the sleds lean over with some effort in firm/spring conditions.

Agreed. A skilled rider can maneuver about any length of sled. It's all in the technique. My riding buddy has a 155 length and i ride a 163. We have switched back a forth many times, and i cant tell any difference at all on the mountain as far as maneuverability goes. In deep powder the 163 does just a little better, which is to be expected. On the trail, the 163 does push a bit more in the corners, but not bad at all. I go anywhere the 155 goes. For those deep powder days, the extra bit of flotation with the 163 is very nice!

I said all of that to say this . . . I believe one could expect to see the same slight difference between the 163 and the 174 as i did between the 155 and 163. No, the 174 will not take a city block to turn around as some have said in exaggerated posts. It may take another 6 inches. If you love riding deep powder, the 174 will shine!! If you ride trails, and putter around in the meadows, then what is the point in getting anything over a 144....LOL

I love my 174 pro. This is a little vid in a low snow day. Maybe 6" of fresh. I think guys are going to love the 174 axys. Start of the video is my buddy on the cat the rest is me on a 174 pro.
