09 with service engine light

I have a buddy who bought an 09 dragon 800. At idle, (really low idle) the gauges dont show anything, and when you throttle it up to around 1800-2000 for warm up it shows "service engine" After you keep the throttle up that message dissappears. Should he have it checked out, or does it come on because of the really low idle?

Sounds like a voltage regulator problem, or possibly stator, most likely VR, VR problems were a known issue on 08-09 Dragons with them going out...

My first guess would be that the TPS need to be re-calibrated. The Service Engine message is a simple reminder interval and can be reset to the next increment or deactivated.

He's right, TPS. Mine was out of calibration last year and the reason the gauges don't show anything is because the voltage is too low. The computer will store a message about "minimum voltage" or something like that. They may try to tell you its the VR because of the message but its most likely not.
