08 Tundra 5.7 ????

Like I said before.......

10mpg???!!! They can keep 'er!

The wifes honda civic is expensive to fill up right now.....

I'll drive my G Mc for a while untill those toys can get close to a decent gas milage.

I guess I could have went with the 4.7...............But it's kinda shy on power.

Chaz

Well, pulled my buddies enclosed with three sleds in it from Salt Lake to La Barge the other day. I have to admit the truck did much better than I anticipated it would. It has plenty of power to handle the load and maintained 70+ on the long hills. The one thing that will be added asap is a break controller, it was hard on the breaks to get everything stopped. The mileage was what I expected, not that great but we still saved money by not taking my buddies 07 Ford Powerstroke. Not in anyway trying to bash anything or one ... so please don't start all the mine is better than yours BS. I am happy with my purchase as I am sure you are with yours.... ;)

The 4.7 is only rated 1 mpg better, so not really worth the tradeoff. My GMC must be broken, because the mileage ain't that great and my buddy's 5.7 Tundra uses the same if not slightly less :(

Bad Gas Cost Me 500.00

Bad gas in tundra truck. I went out the next day truck would not start? Called toyota dealer told them to come pick it up. So now I have a gas sample. 500.00 dollar bill to try and recover my loss with the oasis gas station.

Hola Spencer, I did not read this whole thread. I have 15K miles on my '07 Tundra 5.7 I tow that 27 foot trailer a lot and drive a lot of in town stuff back and forth to the office. my combined mileage over total miles owned is 17 mpg. I do have an intake and a TRD exhaust but overall it just does great. i do this on low test reg gas too. I am 1000% staisfied. so, what was the question? lol. ps. put the controller on and the trailer brakes a lot better. i also ran Blizzacks this winter. awesome.

i thought he this thread was about a question of how the tundra pulls a trailer not what trucks everyone cares about i dont get it why do some of u care what brand other people drive? i love my yota

Glad to hear you're happy, sounds like from what I hear they are a good truck.

I've got to ask though, why wouldn't you have asked those questions about the truck before you bought it?

Also, what would you have done if the majority of legit feedback was negative?

I had done a bit of research and read a lot of articles about how happy people were with the truck but just like snowest I was fairly certain there was some bias. You know how the doo guys think doo are the best and so on. So, I thought I would try and get some unbiased opinions from here (WHAT WAS I THINKING  )

As for the legit feedback being negative, I was fairly certain it wouldn't be, but had it been I would have settled with my purchase and kick my own arse for buying the wrong truck.

And as we all know, what you might think tows fine might be some one else's nightmare. I was just looking for feedback from folks who actually have towed with this vehicle to see if they might have some insightful/useful information to pass on? I honestly didn't think it would turn into a 10 page pizzing contest on who had the best truck. For those who did have useful information, I thank you. For those who just felt compelled to contribute worthless information, I am glad I could provide a topic to pass your time! :face-icon-small-win :D

I know this is about the Tundra, but has anyone considered the '09 Sierra and Silverado 1/2tons? I dont know what the Tundras are priced at, but with the L92(6.2 VVT) and the 6L80(6 speed) the GMs with 400 ponies will be tough to beat.

Yea did the math. Averaged 13MPG with the cummins so I am not sure where your math figures are coming from but you might need a new calculator? On the low end with the Tundra I will be getting 13 so then you figure 3.15 for gas virsus 4.16 for diesel then the math would say gas is the way to go. As for your hemi comment, this is not a hemi! I had one of those too, that was why I went with the cummins. This 5.7 has more hp and torque than the hemi. and not even going to justify the tree hugger comment. Please get real, I am glad you chose to drive what you drive, it is your choice.

I am simply looking for input from actual owners of the Tundra on how it pulls, wasn't really looking for attempted bashing from die hard cummins owners...

How do average 13 MPG with your cummins?

I've got a 99 24 valve Dually with 270,000 miles, 4:10 gears and an auto. I still get 17 MPG on the HWY and 12-13 pulling my 20' enclosed car hauler with 6,500 pounds of construction equipment.

I pulled a buddies very heavy pull 2place open this past winter, 70-80mph all the way, averaged 14mpg all the way across the flatlands.
My fuel economy in my '07 Tundra went up dramatically between 10-11,000 miles...i guess it took that long to "break in"
I bought last July, just turned 16,000 miles, and am glad i bought it.
Sorry for posting about trailer pulling in a trailer pulling thread....now back to the flaming !

ps, Spencer. as much as I love the torque and the mileage on my Tundra I am also impressed with the rear suspension and the way it handles the load. My Trailer is balanced well with either bikes or sleds on board but i have to say I have no sag, no jolts... just a great straight ride. Now I have towed that trailer with an Avalanche, a Megacab diesel, a Powerstroke and this holds the load better than all.

I do have a complaint. I did a leveling kit and can not re-adjust the headlights. I want to turn them down a bit but can't figure it out. I hate to blind oncoming traffic but I rarely drive after dark. too old. lol. any suggestions on those lights.

I went the other way from a Titan which had plenty of power for my double pulling Rv and trailer in summer and 2place enclosed in winter to an 07 Cummins 5.9 4 speed.

Loved the Titan and it is close to the new Tundra in capability but payload problems and edge of total towing weight with my new toy behind the RV a Yamaha Rhino and my dirt bikes made me decide to go diesel. (this is my first diesel)

So... the Titan although the best gas mileage for a gasoline hauler I ever had, can't come close to the Cummins mpg towing and empty.

Now if you have one of the new higher power diesels like the Duramax or Ford you're mileage may get pretty close to the Tundra since mileage has been slowly dropping as the "add power" race has been on.

Went through all this before but the operating costs ended up pretty close.

Pretty hard not to exceed payload weights on 1/2 ton it turns out, and the bigger the 1/2 ton like 4 door long bed, the less payload. My titan was 1650 payload.

It did handle the high rpms great but mileage isn't close to my new truck hauling heavy or light.

I won't put down the 1/2 tons at all they are amazing since 04, but since we pull up forrest roads and nasty's in the winter, having the extra stability of the 2500HD and not having to hook up the weight distributing hitch all the time is a nice change.

Good luck.

There will be a new bread of Diesel trucks next year, Dodge and Chevy are both going to offer a 4 cylinder 1/2 ton's diesels (dakota, durango,Hummer H3) etc. I'm pretty confident these trucks will see over 30MPG empty, 450 foot pounds of torque will pull you sleds more places than a powerJoke :D

:beer;:beer;

Not to mention the Tundra Diesel with the 8.1L Hino

I know this isn't a Tundra, but still LMAO !

I think there is a truck stuck to the front bumper of that Nytro !!!
