**ORIGINAL POST**
Hey guys! I am riding either an '08-M1000 with 71 miles on it for $6500.00 or an '08-XP with 639 miles on it for $7000.00 this year. I am having one helluva time deciding which one to get. I am use to the power of a 900 RMK and don't really want to go backwards, but hear that the XP's can hang pretty well on the mountain with the M1000. I have read a ton of hours on here on both machines and to no surprise have found that each one has "their" issues. No big deal! I can work those out. Please don't tell me to get the '09 anything because it is out of my budget. I would like to hear from guys there honest unbiased opinion. I know I will get 100 opinions from 100 guys, but let's hear what you have to say. If it was you.........what would you go for? They both have ALL updates and they both ONLY have a can for mods. Thanks guys!

I ride with a guy whos coming off a 900 (I have a 08'm1000) and when we switch we both find the handling very similar so, if you want a seemless transition as far as riding style is concerned go for the 1000. I personally dont have enough seat time on an XP to get used to the rider position. I really enjoy the M1000 and love the platform, lots of potential for mods later (whoot whoot...turbo) I dont know how unbiased I am, because I love my M. I will give doo guys this though, they are the most loyal group on the planet.

I went through the same thing last year went with the XP and love it heard alot of opinions from alot of people. as dumb as it sounds one of the comments that helped me make the descision was some one said the m1000 has a 1500$ hood and the XP has 100$ hood, made sense to me. I dont know if this makes sense for your style of riding but for me it does. Both fun sleds XP took a little getting used to because i came off an m series. I was also buying new and the doo dealer at home in my opinion is much better so those are the factors I used and im happy with my choice cant go wrong either way the Xp's power wont dissapoint u by the way.

I own both and ride both and am not biased in any way.. I love both chassis.

The 08 M10 is a great sled thatis capable of making some big power.. same goes for the XP.

Another note: if you are over 200lbs without gear. get the M10.. I fyou are under... consider the XP

I think you would be happy with either..

My suggestion is to base it on the local dealer.. Which ever dealer is the best, buy that brand...

whoever said the M1000 hood is $1500 is high as a kite! They are more like $500 new, and you can find them for much cheaper used.

X2 with Kelsey. Depending on your riding style the extra weight of the 1000 may beat on you if you are smaller like me. If you do a lot of tight trees and boondocking the xp may be the way to go. Alot of high marking the 1000 has massive potential for mods. Best local shop for support is also a big factor. IMHO if it has a track, skis and motor that gets you in and back out and you have a good time you made the right choice nomatter the brand.

They both ride great, I think the m chasis is Way easier to work on. Yes the hood on the xp is small= working on it via the side panels. Its a chore putting in the bolts that vibrated out of the block/y-pipe. Especially when its happy hour at the lodge.

I have to agree with RKT. If you’re a bigger guy get the M1000. If you are smaller get the XP. I weigh 220 LBS buck a$$ naked and love the torque of the 1000. I haven't rode the XP much but I have a lot of time on the M8 & D8.

Also the dealer should be high on the decision making meter.

Thanks for your comments guys. I am about 190 w/o any gear so I guess both would work for me. We have been through about 3 cat dealers in 7 years and only 2 skidoo dealers so I would have to lean Skidoo on the dealer thing. Keep the comments coming. Much appreciated! Want to decide by tomorrow.

High as a kite eh well the price you listed (500$) is still 5 times the price of the xp hood hence my point, yes you could pick one up cheap used but in what condition and from where and how long will it take to get to you. I was simply stating a point that was brought up to me that i think makes sense he was looking for an unbiased opinion which i have given him i have owned both sleds and i am happy with the xp i have now. As for you being from south dakota and owning a wanna be mountain sled "crossfire" Im going to go ahead and assume since were throwing assumptions around that you dont make a whole lot of contact with trees or have to roll your "Crossfire" out of waist deep snow onto its hood during a normal day of riding maybee the 3 days you make it somewhere hilly a winter you mightget a little scratch on your polished hood. So dont you worry about my comments your hood will be fine but if the guy that posted this thread would like to use the UNBIASED OPINION that I have provided for him he is welcome to. Thanks. Have a nice day Mr. XFIRE 800:beer;

i'd go m1000 for more bottom end power with more top end power, and easyer to work on if you have to pull the motor out, lol

I have rode both a lot of hours. Just like everyone has said, it all depends on what style of riding you (YOU) like the most. The XP you can ride all day in the trees and you arms don't feel like rubber. The M10 reach the top of what you want with a little bit of mod. In over the hood powder the M10 will dive in a little bit and you what to make sure that you make your turns to the left or it will bog down. That is where I really noticed the difference the most. The xp was great in that stuff. We just all need more money so that we could just own both. That would be perfect.

Another vote for the M1000. If you are as addicted to snowmobiling as everyone else on this site then you will eventially be looking for more power and the M1000 has much more potential then an XP. Stock for stock the M1000 will out perform the XP everywhere. If you want to start adding eqaul dollars in modds to each sled then the performance gap between the XP and M1K will just keep getting further apart. As stated above the M is much easier to work on and I don't care what sled you buy its going to need work eventially.

I truely hope you don't base your decicion on the price of the hood as this is a stupid debate. If you want to know why an XP hood is cheaper then an M hood then you should take a look at how big they are. The XP hood is about the size of the side panel off of an M.

Reguardless of what you buy, its all about getting out on the mountain and having fun.

I also own both of these sleds. in my opinion the m sleds are more pull and go. I spend way more time trying to get the xp dialed in just right. BUT the M also feels like riding a peice of plywood....just like all cats have felt for me. the XP has a huge advantage in fun factor. just personal opinion. dealer is key though! I am stuck between a rock and a hard place because i like the XP way better for a sled but the Arctic Cat dealer around here is way better to deal with!

XP unless future plans include engine mods....the Cat will be easier to find big power. Both great sleds.

I had a 07' M1000 and an 08' XP800. First off they are both awesome sleds, id be happy with either one. Second I'd say go for the one that has the dealer support to back you up when you need something. They both ride very different and the power comes on different on both sleds. The weight difference on the XP is very nice. If you can find the posts from last year of wet weights, I'd bet the XP is at least 50lbs lighter wet ready to ride.

Great comments guys! Keep them coming. I appreciate everyones feedback in my decision making.
