08/09 winter Big Holes Snow Report.

Went to Red Butte and Castle Lake and the snow was TERRIBLE. It was snowing, but not a lot. It also had a 1/4" Layer of Ice, which may be bad for avy conditions. At the parking lot by the power/relay station, it was in bad shape. The snow was melting fast. We had to ride over a lot of dirt to get back to the correls. KEEP PRAYING FOR SNOW!!!

Sounds like I just got talked out of taking a rip up there in the AM to check it out.. Thanks for the post

for the last few years my neighbor has drove the groomer on the rexburg side of the big holes and I have bugged him to go ride with him for the last year or so, to go ride with him. I talked to him sunday and he asked me if I wanted to go this friday (1-9). So it sounds like the trails will be groomed for saturday.

I was up there today on Red Bute and they didn't get very much new snow at all. I would say 3 or 4 inches of new snow since saturday.

Rode up there today. Not much good to say. Trail in was crap snow was crap weather was crap! Still better than being at work!

Went up today, they finally groomed the trail!!
Snow was actually quite nice in the trees and north slopes!

Rode from the substation up to the outhouse today. trail was decent in places and crap in others. we found some places with 3 feet of untracked powder. the only bad thing was the weather when we were coming out.

Whats the conditions like up by the towers? Was up there on the 19th and the snow sucked... everything was hard and icy... was just wondering how much snow they got in this storm!

Rode Red Butte are today and the snow was great. A good amount of new snow, just bad visibility

We are going to ride in from Byrne this afternoon. If anybody wants to tag along we will be in the lot about noon. I have to be back in IF for class at 6 so it wont be too deep of a ride.

Snow conditions were awesome. Over two feet of fresh in lots of areas. Sun shined all day! It was the second best ride of the year!! The trail had even been groomed! What more can you ask for??

yup rode it Thurs night with dates and it was dang good when You got back in. Trail was chewed going in but passed the groomer some where on the way out and got some smooth riding the rest of the way out. Should be good mid week with the snow that we are getting.

Anybody lose a Pipe up big holes this last week. Found it on the trail on rexburg side going towards red buttes, i think it was before outhouse, dont recall now. Shouldnt need to describe it, if you lost it you'll know what it's for. Was found on friday (2/13) under some light snow, so could have been from that day, or before. Just let me know if you want it back.

I'm jealous of you Rexburg & Driggs folks. That is a cool area to ride esp being in your backyard. The Towers were sparce lase weekend but the rest was decent.
