07 800r summit 151 (bogging in deep snow)

I am having a ***** of a time getting a 07 800r summit 151 with 1200 miles running right. Just bought this sled this fall without reading the writing on the wall first. Love is blind! Wow found out about all the issues not thrilled at all but I am trying to work thru them all and need your help.

I have the sled in shop in Longmont co getting the clutch updates done. But I have a major concerned that the clutch is not my only problem. The last time I rode ,a week ago , this motor was bogging/Cutting out only in deep snow only. Sled would run about 30 seconds in deep snow 5-6’ powder before bogging down to an idle. Or I would kill motor for a break and sart again and it would idle fine but would not rev out (bogging). At lower elevation and in 3’ of snow sled ran fine. It apreared to me the machine was sucking snow some how or having an electrical issue. Could this still be a be clutch issue like the dealer is telling me? Even thought this day my rpms were at 8.1K before bogging down to an idle. I would clear snow and ice from air intake remove snow from exhaust area and could get the sled running again . A quick inspection of air intake system revealed nothing obvious. I don’t want to get denied again by this sled the next time I go up like the last 4 times. Does anyone know what is going on with this red headed step child of a sled? What is best shop for this in the denver area? 2 dealers have jerked me around so far.

Do you have the pre-filter sock on your air intake foam? If not your intake foam can plug up with snow/ice and cause the motor to choke off. With pre-filter I never had a problem with bogging. If it is not an intake problem you could always check your ECU conector infront of the motor. A lot of guys had prblems with moisture getting into the connector causing corrosion and giving them all kinds of problems. Smearing a bunch of di-electric grease inside the connector was the consensus fix for this. Good luck! :beer;

also you might want to check the carb balance hoses are in good working order as in no kinks breaks, holes as well as make sure its hooked up to the air box if not you need to fix them, they caused huge problems for me

Pre-Filter is a must in deep powder. Also, my 07 X-RS was doing the same thing on a humid deep powder day up on Rabbit Ears. Turned out to be moisture (condensation) was getting into the connector on the computer (above the pipe and below the headlights) and causing the motor to stall. Go to your dealer or any auto parts store and get a tube of di-electric grease and a can of aerosol spray electrical contact cleaner. Take the connector off of the computer, clean it out with the contact cleaner, let it dry, then add a good amount of di-electric gease (should fill the void where the pins are). This should cure your problem, the 07 models where known for this problem. Good luck, and enjoy the sled.

Another thing, check the hose going to the airbox, if it fell off or gets kinked, it can also cause your problem.

Thank you all very much for the information. I do have the prefilter, I will clean and put the di electric jelly on the electrical connections for the ecu, check carb balance hoses, and I got a great tip thru snowest email that It could be snow being pushed into my exhaust can and need a snow deflector. I will do all checks and fixes. You have no idea how much I appreciate all the knowledge.

I do have another question

The first shop I brought this sled into took off a black plastic shroud on the side of the clutch. The next time I rode I had to put duct tape over a vent in clutch side door so the belt would not slip from snow coming in the vent. I fear I might smoke more belts due to clutch heat with this vent closed. Is this mod recommended? Or should I get my shroud back from the guy? again I appreciate all your support. :beer;

That's what I did. Trashed the plastic shroud and duct taped the vent off. I think there is still more air movement across the clutches with the plastic gone and the vent taped off. I never blew a belt in 2 years of riding so it couldn't have been to bad.

I don't think it is your exhaust....we have 3 or 4 of the 800r's in our group and never have had that problem in deep snow. Don't run with the clutch guard either but the hole is blocked.

However, a few of ours have had a problem where they almost seem like they are running out of gas, rpm's drop, and after a second our two it dies. Can't restart it right away. After a minute or two and after we get the sled level you could fire it back up and away you go like nothing ever happened. I think it was either the ECU connection OR the vent for the fuel tank. I can tell you there are few times I have opened my tank and there was a strong vacuum after coming off the mountain. I am sure there is a check valve but I would think that such a strong vacuum would bleed out after a day or two. Hasn't done it in a while so not too worried.

mine is removed also and i got a piece of pet door screen and some hot glue glued it over the hole and no problems at all with getting snow on the clutches

Hey tnuts, Sorry to hear about your problem. I also removed my belt shroud and put the slp cold air intake and hot air escape kits on. Never had anything like this. Belt has never slipped, nothin. My sled is an 07 adreanaline 800 151, I also have the hps can, lefty throttle, n couple other goodies, but I did lose a piston at 900 miles. Doo sent me 2 new jugs and pistons n rings, crank was indexed and perfect so hopefully I got one that will be solid. I ride at 8000 to 9000 feet in deep deep powder no troubles with clutch slippage or bog. (well it bogged bigtime when the piston ring broke) but I rode it 3 miles in deep powder home. God I love my doo. Never goin to anything else. I am putting that ecm problem in my mental index though.. that sounds like a likely candidate for your problem.. computers have their glitches I guess.. Thanks for all the great threads on this topic though.
