Earlier I was wondering about changing gears in my King cat, now I have to:( I have my chaincase apart to swap tracks and I found that it's geared for 0-3000 feet. It has 19/40 gearing:eek: I would like to go to 19/43 or 19/44 hyvo setup. The only problem is that I have mechanical reverse, is that and hyvos compatible? Thanks

Is there any reason to not run a 17 tooth top sprocket for a 17/40 set up? It does have a 15 wide chain in it now. That would give me 2.35 ratio, Similar to 19/45 set up

All I 've found for options so far is stock gears, a 18 top and 43 bottom. That or the 40 tooth bottom are all I've found to work with my mechanical reverse. They should be here Wed. Thanks for the replies:)

I went to 18/43 with a 15w chain and notice a big difference on the bottom.
Have not pulled any big climbs yet but for boondocking at 1/2 throttle it really snaps now.

Be careful with the 18 top

I went with the 18 top, and my chain did not last the whole year. After I had another problem I noticed a couple of broken links. I am not saying not to, but keep an eye on the chain. I went with the hyvo setup 18/46. I have been told the hyvo setup is the way to go. Check this out. 1st pic is silent chain 2nd one is 18/46 HYVO setup.

Problem with the 18 tooth is it almost puts the chain in a bind,,, not sure about what is available for gear case with reverse.

1Mike900- I,d like to go to a 20 45/46 gear setup but I have mechanical reverse and so far the biggest sprocket I can find for that is a 43. I reeaaalllly like having reverse (until the first time it breaks), so I figured with a 18/43 combo it would be geared 2.38 which is similar to 19/45 2.36 or 20/46 2.3 If you guys think that the 18 is a bad idea I could just leave the 19 in it for 2.26 ratio, which I guess would still be better than the original 19/40 :eek:2.10 gearing. Thanks again for the opinions.

19/43 is not a bad ratio........ Ran this setup on a zrt 800 and worked well that sled was long tracked and the clutches didn't get real hot boondocking.

2-zeros is that a 72 or 74 pitch chain? How do you remove the cover and not have a mess of oil in the bottom of the belly pan? I was thinking of putting it on its side, And removing, Then cleaning up the case before install. Unless there is a better way? Oh, What are you running for lube?

Thanks
Mike

Sooo going over this post i've noticed alot of you running differant ratio's, personally i don't have reverse or hyvo's yet but ran a 18/44 with 10 tooth drivers on a somewhat modded mountain cat and liked the way it out climbed the new xp's, but after a three day trip in the hills i'd find a gear case full of metallic colored oil. I'm guessing the 18t top gear doesn't like the short radius bend. This year i'm considering the 19/43 or faster ratio because i'm gonna pack a few more cc's. Here's a vid of me in Mcbride draging a modded m1000, of the 6 pulls we raced in various places the old kitty worked with 18/44 combo.

Yes a higher ratio will work, It puts it the belt back in the most efficient part of the clutch, Rather than out at the edge of it! A 20/46 ought to work well as it is a 2.3 rather than that 2.44 ratio you were running. If you are going bigbore then run a 20/45 which is the same basic ratio as stock KK and 1M's Good job on the video, I knew the ole cat would run with the M1. Sometimes old technology still works!
